It's kind of nice to not see Goldfinger leading a Bond poll for once.

Agreed with that. I don't know... I just never have ranked it that highly. In some ways I wonder what the fuss is about with GOLDFINGER. I personally voted for FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, but only just above THUNDERBALL - I felt that it set the standard for the rest of the franchise.

From Russia With Love for me...the class and killer grace of the Cold War Bond comes into full light here, and Connery plays it so well with the fantastic supporting cast.

While there's no question the first four Bond films are of excellent quality and cinematic value, I like From Russia With Lovethe best. The film has one of the series best casts, not only because of the actors but how they all excel in their roles;Kirem Bay and Red Grant would define the "ally" and "henchman" role for the series and action films for years to come. Sean Connery's performance in this film is top notch, exuding confidence blended with true ruthlessness. And the film itself has a classic feel to it that makes me feel like I'm reading Flemings book whenever I watch it. Goldfinger is right behind this, but aside from Casino Royale, this is the best Bond film.

I voted for You Only Live Twice. Thunderball comes just below it for me. I agree with an earlier poster that it's a refreshing change not to have the good but in my opinion rather overrated Goldfinger top of the poll. It's my least favourite Connery Bond after Never Say Never Again and Dr No.

I never tire of watching Connery's first four films. But the one that reigns supreme for me is: FRWL. For me it's the perfect blend of grittiness, romance, danger and action with a light dollop here and there of Flemingesque outrageousness. GF comes a close second, but the outrageousness was more blatant: Pussy Galore and her flying circus? Too haw-haw for my own taste. Still, four immortal films for Sean before those chipmunk cheeks.

Had to go with Thunderball because, while I adore (haha, what a fruity word for a guy to use) From Russia With Love, I somehow keep popping the Thunderball DVD back into my player. And that lounge version of the Thunderball theme as Connery enters the casino... ohhhh Capitol, you need to bring back the Ultra-Lounge series & put out a "On Her Majesty's Swingin' Service" edition.

And I've copyrighted that title, NOBODY STEAL IT. :cooltongue:

I used to love GF. My first bond film as a child now that I recall it. There is a lot of cool stuff in there. But...

Upon a more critical viewing I see that there is a huge fatal flaw in that film. Look for a new thread as this gets really off topic come to think of it.

I just watched From Russia With Love this afternoon.

The film is so strong because of its plot. A real spy driven piece. Connery is his best here, how cool is this man?

My favourite Connery film.

Should have been Thunderball but the final half hour of the film tails off, so there can be only one - From Russia With Love.

Close between Thunderball and From Russia with Love. But Thunderball is the one that always makes back into the DVD player first.

My all time favourite is 'Thunderball'. The second is 'You only live twice'.

Now, I'm still a high school student. Here in Hungary, in the last days of the school year, we don't study, we just do different things. My class for example watched movies, but not in a tv. It was projected on a screen. One day everyone brought in a dvd. But the DVD player in the school was an old one and it could only play my ultimate edition 'You only live twice' dvd. It was really a fantastic to see it on the big screen. And incidently, this was on the day of the 40th anniversary of the film.

"Blofeld: Only one man has this gun. James Bond.
My classmate: But that is Mr Fisher."
