Is there such a thing as a crappy Sean Connery 007 flick?
For some fans, I'd say yes. I've seen Diamonds Are Forever ranked pretty low some times. I personally like all the Bond films.

Amazing that Golfinger isn't leading this poll. Aren't we conditioned to think it's best?
That always seems to be the general consensus, but there are some threads on CBn where it shows alot of members' love for others such as From Russia With Love and Thunderball.
I'm one of the Thunderball over Goldfinger fans.
Count me in for that fanclub, too. To be honest, I'm still suprised to see TB in the lead - didn't think I'd be in the majority on that one. I guess there's just no beating top-notch Bond dialogue.
Someone should give Perv and Wade a Clockwork Orange treatment using the first four Bond films. Stick 'em in a dark theater with their eyes taped open and force them to watch/listen to Dr NO through Thunderball until they can think nothing but 007 wit and charm.
THUNDERBALL ALL THE WAY!!!

The best bond girl is Margaret Nolan (Dink), look at those rockets !!! She makes the Goldfinger credits atomic.

My least favourite is easy; it's the dreary Thunderball, which is not only my least favourite Connery Bond but my least favourite Eon Bond, period.

I say FRWL is #1 with DN a close #2, Goldfinger a close #3 and TB at #4 simply b/c it seems to drag terribly, for me. If the pacing was better it might be closer to the top.

That being said I think all of the Connery films and Connery himself as overrated, he is good and his films are good but everything was improved upon with later actors and films IMO. No Connery film ranks higher than #5 on my list of 20. My top four Bond films are always solid (OHMSS, TSWLM, TLD, and GE). Upon repeat viewings my rankings of the Connery films change over and over but DAF is consistently at the bottom and there is a big gap between the first three being high and his last three films being much lower.
Here is my ranking of Connery films with overall ranking with the entire series of 20 in parenthesis.
(5.) Goldfinger (1964, Sean Connery): This movie set the formula for the great Bond movies to come. The story is not always action packed but has a very compelling plot that keeps me very interested. The lazer beam scene is classic, the climax at Fort Knox and in the airplane is excellent. Oddjob sets the standard for all henchmen to come. Sean Connery's Bond at his best.
(7.) From Russia With Love (1963, Sean Connery): A good film without a doubt but overrated IMO. The plot is a bit slow at times and less interesting than future down to earth Bond films like FYEO and TLD. The train fighting scene is classic though and other action scenes are good to. Introduced the "007" theme song which I like. A classic ending. The movie also gets points for following Fleming very very closely. A good realistic spy thriller.
(9.) Doctor No (1962, Sean Connery): A good start to the series, the intro of Bond in the movie is classic and Connery gives strong performance. Jack Lord is also an excellent Felix Leiter. A plot faithfull to Fleming that is very interesting and never boring, the villan and climax to the film are also very good. Introduced the Bond theme and much else I love about Bond. A realistic spy thriller with a young suave Connery.
(15.) Thunderball (1965, Sean Connery): Thunderball is a Connery classic but it is far from perfect. It is a fairly down to earth story with plenty of action moments and the SPECTRE sub-plot but it also drags on at times and even outright boring in parts, such as the health resort scenes and most of the middle of the movie. It makes up for the slow parts by having a thrilling finale with the excellent underwater battle scene and the fight on the super fast boat with Largo. The main title theme is weak but the score especially near the end is good. A movie I watch for certain scenes but rarely all the way through, it just doesnt do it for me.
(16.) You Only Live Twice (1967, Sean Connery): The weakest of the first five films. The movie starts out a bit slow and get slower towards the middle with Bond getting "married" in Japan but alot of it is made up for in a thrilling climax in the volcano. Donald Pleasance is an excellent Blofeld, the best IMO. The first Bond film with a huge sci-fi like scope but these parts are the best parts of the movie, otherwise the plot is hard to follow unless you are either very familiar with the movie or watch it all the way through and even then it isnt really very intersting until the end.
(18.) Diamonds are Forever (1971, Sean Connery): A very cheesy film that is the silliest of them all, even moreso than Moonraker IMO. Many elements of this film are very corny and the movie's best redeeming quality is the comic relief that comes from the many silly moment from the boiling mud pit that the faux Blofeld falls into in the pre-credits to the hillarious death scenes of Mr. Went and Mr. Kid. The Blofeld in this movie is a redeeming quality but again mostly for comic relief such as the bathosub scene at the end. Sean Connery also doesnt look so good in this movie, he is no longer the suave handsome man we were introduced to in Dr. No just 9 years earlier.

7. NSNA (I know, it's unofficial)
I really like ALMOST all of Connery's films - not DAF as much and I don't like NSNA hardly at all. GF was Connery's third outing so his style and timing were perfect, but no signs of boredome with the role (as started to show in TB)
GF has my favorite Villain: Goldfinger and best villain line in the series, "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die", My 2nd favorite henchman (Jaws is #1): Odd Job, My favorite Bond Girl: Pussy Galore, the intro of the Aston Martin DB5 (great interchange with Q: "An ejector seat? You must be joking." "I never joke about my work 007.", my favorite PTS (I like it when he casually looks at his watch, lights his cigarette - right at the moment of the explosion). There are some moments where it moves slowly IMO, but not as much as TB, FRWL and DN (Don't get me wrong - I really like those other movies).

Even thought I do not rank Dr. No as my favorite Connery movie - I agree with MarcAngeDraco that it is excellent - at times I've put FRWL and Dr. No at the top - depending on my mood.
Dr. No is not bogged down with a lot of the elements developed in late Bond films (which I like - not that I dislike the later elements) - but the newness and simplicity of this one makes it fresh. Besides, Dr. No has my all time favorite Bond scene, where Bond is introduced. Honey Ryder is one of my favorite Bond girls and I really like the fact that Bond is ACTUALLY investigating in this one. I wish Dr. No had more screen time - he's kind of thrown in at the end - but his presence is felt throughout the film. Finally, Dr. No has my favorite Felix.

its always been my favorite bond movie, and i know my taste mite seem a little off, but the thing is ive always had a love for japan and japanese people and jap cars and generally the exceptionally high standards of the japanese!
so the list is
1. YOLT- fav bond movie, set in Japan
2. Goldfinger- fav car, just cuts above thunderball ONLY cause of thunder's dreary underwater scenes; brilliant, esp. any scene in switzerland!
3. Thunderball- fav girl - Domino, fav Felix, Sean at his peak (fav sean)
4. FRWL- loved the whole 'cold war' theme and the music! almost equal with goldfinger and thunder
5. DAF- sometimes i really like this movie - maybe the cool early 70s music? most of the time its not so great
6. Dr. No- he had to start somewhere! ingenuity with bamboo was nice, but not the greatest movie
7. NSNA- i cant say i really liked this at all - i think sean was just too old, he was already old enough in DAF lol! had some ok action scenes and erratic jazz music
