Maybe we could get CBn a tagline like "CBn, where it's okay to say you like ------ (fill in the film)."

Kind of surprising (but good IMO) to see them both beating the popular Goldfinger.
I entirely agree - I'd expected Goldfinger to lead by a country mile, with From Russia With Love in second. I am surprised to see Thunderball in number one (if only slightly) as all I usually hear is that it is 'too slow' or 'boring'. God forbid that a movie has sequences to build up the tension and suspense and plenty of high-class, well-written dialogue. Too often they are reduced by some as the 'talky bits' to be skipped. For a long time I've felt it tobe severely underrated and - quite substantially - superior to Goldfinger. A true epic with a gripping plot that doesn't concentrate on big bangs and shiny things - and I may actually be in love with Domino.
Yup, it may not quite match the sheer brilliance of From Russia With Love butThunderball is undoubtedly the bees' knees too.

LOL! Quite. It's become my all time favorite Connery Bond film. The travelogue aspect shines through in it.

Definently From Russia With Love. And who the heck voted Never Say Never Again?
There is this member on the site called DLibrasnow which I am sure you will get to know. His favorite Bond movie is Never Say Never Again. I guess every film, whether its official or unofficial, has to have a fan. This dude is also nuts over A View To A Kill. Anyway, have fun bashing him and welcome to CommanderBond.

I think, if anything, it shows the diverse popularity of some of these films among real Bond fans as opposed to the ones among general film fans, where GF is always considered the best Bond film and all that.
Maybe we could get CBn a tagline like "CBn, where it's okay to say you like ------ (fill in the film)."

Turn says it well. There has to be some Casino Royale 1967 fans on here too.

I think the "Gangsters who are gased" had intention of robbing Fort Knox .
The gangsters had no intention of robbing Fort Knox and the film makes it clear that Goldfinger is a super villain, or guy who has an outragous plan of robbing Fort Knox that nobody ever had. He worked on this plan to brake into Fort Knox for years, and it was his idea and not the gangsters. Goldfinger is out to get richer and does not want to spend the money on the equipment needed to destroy Fort Knox and make U.S. gold radioactive, so like any Bond villian he uses and manipulates somebody into helping him do something terrible they have no idea about, and in this case they are the gangsters. The gangters had no idea what they were getting themsleves into when assisting Auric Goldfinger and find his plan of braking into Fort Knox ridiculous and dangerous(remember one gangster trying to argue that Fort Knox is too highly protected to be robbed). They were hired by Auric to smuggle things related to what they had connections with and expected to get paid, but never once did they hear of a plan to brake into Fort Knox until they arrived at Auric's Kentucky farm.

Is CBn also a place "where it's okay to say that you DON'T like Goldfinger?" because I loathe the film (mostly because it's extremely overrated, and doesn't have anything that wasn't topped in FRWL or TB, or TSWLM.)Maybe we could get CBn a tagline like "CBn, where it's okay to say you like ------ (fill in the film)."
"where it's okay to say you like Never Say Never Again and A View To A Kill."

If I recall right, there are a few members on here who are not fond at all of Goldfinger.

1) From Russia With Love , because of its brilliant plot (that does not require heavy technology because it is simply well-thought)the memorable gypsy sequence (which is also non-technological) and the wonderful ensemble of international supporting actors who add so much characters and charisma.
2) Goldfinger, because it is very entertaining, it has Tania Mallet, and excellent production design by ken adam. pussy galore is a bit too old for my taste, and there are some minor plot holes (such as galore's defection)
3) Dr. No, because Bond, Dr. No and Ryder are all well-acted in a nice linear story that is simple and not technologically dependant. a bit slow though
4) You Only Live Twice, because of the exellent blofeld and brandt, and again, production design by ken adam. great locations and music. bond looks a little tired though, and scenes like little nellie that are technologically dependant look very silly.
5) Thunderball, because of a great story with great music and interesting villains. too long though, drags quite a bit, and we've seen the beaches before....in Dr. No! ending is ridiculous
6) Diamonds Are Forever, because it is weird having connery back (who again, looks tired) bad blofeld, no mention of SPECTRE ( or Tracy) bad location ( 007 in the United States gambling capital of Las Vegas? ) and completely ridiculous tone following OHMSS. this is the only connery film ive never really liked all that much

I chose FRWL for the cast: Robert Shaw, the great Lotte Leynya (the chess master guy!) and the Orient Express. I will watch any movie that takes place on a train. In fact I'm going to watch North by Northwest soon. Or The 39 Steps.

Wow! Glad to see my beloved THUNDERBALL leading the pack with 72 votes, with FRWL second at 67. I tell ya, non-believers Thunderball is the one! Go to http://obsessional.co.uk and learn more...
Thunderball is the way to go.
