Oh joy, more slash. Same thing as the audio, just with the Master leaning over the Doctor in bondage. I can DL it a little later and upload it to my admiralinsanity channel if you'd like.

I've always thought in a very strange way these two men love each other - not in a gay way, but they are similar and share a lot. There's more dialogue between them this time, more conversation. It's hard to bring them together for long in a scene because each of them will try to stop the other and they won't stand around talking too much. But I've worked hard this time. We learn more about their history, where they want to go. Both of them are heading for death, that's the important thing. The Doctor knows he's going to die, The Master is dying. He's been brought back to life but it hasn't worked, so both of them are trying to survive while heading to the Immortality Gate. Both in the same situation but at the same time enemies and total opposites.

Spoiler
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease,
That daring young man on the flying trapeze...
Who knows? It could be a callback to Last of the Time Lords.

Thus, neatly completing the God-like reverence for DW and DT RTD intends us to have.
That way the prophecies of Ten's death can be fulfilled.
And to complete the circle of religious symbolism, the Doctor can neatly be resurrected at Easter as Matt Smith

I really hope Moffat's dropped all that 'Doctor as the Messiah' crap.

Sometimes I think folk want the earth from their beloved series without none of the understanding as to how they work. END OF TIME 1 was a tight, energetic, pacey, dramatic and resonant episode of Christmas telly. It demonstrated a cinematic gravitas DOCTOR WHO rarely achieves (and I don't mean the cinematography) with an urgency, narrative economy and sensitivity to the new fans, old fans, people who have never seen an episode before and those that will dip in and out. Television drama like that is hard to find these days and should be supported and acknowledged - not dismissed in a barrage of "it's just like POTTER" tripe (which is ridiculous in itself as HARRY POTTER the books and films have not done an original thing in their life).
Look, I enjoyed aspects of it too, but I wouldn't go too far with the praise, Zorin - but it's your opinion so fair'nuff! Is Harry Potter unoriginal? Definitely - but so too was TEOT, I'm sorry to say. If I could be bothered I could checklist the myriad of movies alone that this visually and narratively referenced, appropriated and just plain nicked from.
But, I think you're being a bit disingenuous by failing to acknowledge the obvious debt the revived series owes to Harry Potter...
I do more than "understand" how popular TV works - and frankly I find it pretty cynical! I respectfully disagree that this was "tight" - narratively speaking it wandered aimlessly about until the second half when the Master is fortuitously given a plot device in the Immortality Gate. The "urgency" seemed to be entirely encapsulated in the Doctor running about and a lot of bosh about prophecies.
And to the naysayers who criticise Russell Davies for this and that... you should be a little more grateful for someone who singlehandedly revived British TV sci-fi.
Yes, RTD was responsible for bringing DW back - but it's his job Zorin, for which he is paid handsomely, it's not a charity! So I do reserve the right to be less than impressed and say it - It's unfair to suggest we should be all be grateful for whatever is served up simply because our favourite show of all time is on!
His work alone paved the way for solid well made shows like TORCHWOOD, THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, BEING HUMAN, THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, MERLIN and SHERLOCK HOLMES. And to moan on about contrived plot twists.... this is sci-fi for God's sake!!!
... Oh for a world of low expectation... It's fine and dandy for SF to be contrived, really?
He has brought back 'storytelling' to mainstream television... and it isn't a scary word in this age of lowest common denominator culture. When was the last time the 20 million viewers who bought into the Quicksave television that is THE X FACTOR ever experienced a decent story?!
OK, I was a bit strident in my earlier comments, and I don't mean to offend, but I didn't think it was a "decent" story. I do agree with you that we do have a lowest common denominator culture represented on the box, but I don't see TEOT striking a blow for literate TV either... It was however above average soap opera with SF/Fantasy trappings, IMHO.
And how many times has THE MASTER been finally wiped out only to return?! That is the very nature of drama. To create and provide conflict.
Absolutely correct, Zorin. I've never had an issue with that.

I reckon after DT's gone and Smith comes in, people will be swooning over the new Doc, as they always do (heck, I'll probably be right there with them). But I wonder...will there be Smith Mania? Or is the inexplicable obsessive love exclusive to Tennant?
And, of course, conversely, will those who dislike Tennant simply praise Smith even if Smith's crap just because he's not Tennant...

Oh, I'm sure there'll be some who are that. I severely doubt Smith will be crap, though. Of what I've seen of his other works (a few clips of shiz and an episode of Moses Jones) he's pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but good. Actually, his character on Moses Jones is kind of a good gauge for him as Doctor. I hope they don't play it that way, as it's a bit too much of a safe choice, but it is nonetheless a decent gauge if you want a rough idea of how it might be done. But we'll just have to wait until spring and see how events unfold.
