So apparently there was a Doctor Who musical, which ran with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor at first, but on subsequent runs Colin Baker portrayed the Sixth Doctor. Videos of it may be found on youtube, here being the first. Have yet to watch it myself. Anyone here even so little as hear of it back in '89 when it ran? I'm surprised I've only just heard of this now, to be honest. Seems the sort of thing would come up in discussions a bit.

Yes, I went to see it. It was Pertwee in it at the New Wimbledon Theatre and I went to see it for my tenth birthday B) It was brilliant fun and had some great laser effects. I wish they'd recorded a proper video of it.

Big finish did a CD version of it with Colin and released it a couple of months back.

It's interesting, watching this person's videos. Audio isn't the greatest, but it's good. Colin Baker's costume is a bit more in line with what he'd originally wanted, too. It's not it exactly (that's more what they put on him animations and certain CD covers; the blue jacket), but it looks better than the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

OMG that coat is SO much better than the paint vomit one he had to wear through out his time.
The whole outfit is slightly different actually.
If you take a look at the DrWho wikipedia page they list things like the plays & musicals etc worth a look at.

Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars is ‘one of the scariest’ according to star David Tennant.

The Guardian has a (supposedly exclusive) three minute clip of The Waters of Mars. Have yet to watch it myself, so can't confirm or deny if we've seen it all before.

Indeed. Cannot even begin to dream of dreaming of waiting for the Christmas two-parter. All of the filming videos I've seen, every snippet I've read, the Comic-Con trailer, all of it is beyond brilliant. I will admit I am even more ecstatic and impatient for the new season than I am the Christmas special though.

Dragging this from another topic, the Beatles were mentioned once in a Who episode. B)

There's The Chase, which was the last story to feature Ian and Barbara. The Beatles are also mentioned (and mispronounced) along with Elvis in 42. In both cases the Beatles are referred to as "classical music" as the stories take place in the far, far future. And yes, when the Third Doctor introduces the Second when he randomly appears in the TARDIS in The Three Doctors by saying "I am he and he is me", Jo finishes the lyric from "I am the Walrus".

Ah, encyclopedia brain. If only you could remember things beyond television and video games.

Edit:

1. This made me lol
2. Medium-quality clip from the upcoming Dreamland. Dreamland's animation is only making me want an LoZ style Doctor Who adventure game all the more.
3. DWM #415 will, naturally, feature Waters of Mars stuff including interviews.

And afraid that's the last of the news I've got for now.

I forgot about The Chase.

Yes indeed.
I would no doubt be sitting behind a larger desk, larger blotter and have a parking space with my name on it outside a bloody dry cleaners. B)

Dreamland looks horrible.

It's like something from a 1990's video game. B)

Dreamland doesn't look all that fantastic, and will probably only be a mediocre story (hopefully better than The Infinite Quest; although it does get props for Zombie Jedi Pirates), but the animation is definitely more video game-y than animation-y. And thus why it prolongs my torment. Imo, the New Series is perfect for an LoZ-style fairly open-world action-adventure game with puzzle solving and RPG elements. And how cool would it be to be able to run around as the Doctor?

Also there's this article regarding The Wedding of Sarah Jane which I more or less agree with, particularly the final sentence.

And now to keep myself from looking up any more Doctor Who things for a while, and because I've twice now mentioned LoZ and am thus in the mood for it, I'm off to go play The Wind Waker for a little bit.

Yeah, SJA seems to have slipped after the first season. Gonna watch the rest of season 3 over the course of this week, see how it goes. Maybe move onto season two later. In hindsight perhaps Scifi was wise to drop the show after the first season.

SARAH JANE has dramatically improved in the last two series. The first series was some misplaced Enid Blyton with phasers experiment with a very annoying lead girl who could not act. It is no coincidence that they have finally got a new young female lead who can act and passed the story baton to the other boy (not the alien one).

It also has a narrative confidence now.

And the WEDDING episodes were - more importantly - a stepping stone to Tennent's demise and very necessary for the audience to watch pre Christmas specials...(better not say anymore).

Meh. Personally I thought on the whole the first season was better than Wedding, but we'll see what my thoughts are after a few more episodes tonight. Will agree the original lead cannot act though.

A little Who rumor that would be fantastic if true,

Phil Jupitus is talking about a Never Mind the Buzzwords Doctor Who Christmas Special on Twitter.

He claims David Tennant is the host, with Jamie Cullum, Catherine Tate, Noel Fielding, Jo Whiley, Bernard Cribbins, and Phil Jupitus of course, they recorded it yesterday evening!

Edit:

I know they keep saying this is for interstellar travel, but the only thing going through my mind is:

Time
And
Relative
Dimension
In
Space

Yes, she has a new album out that isn't as good as the instant number one suggests.... so it's time to find a passing bandwagon to hook some publicity on.
