I assume the DW-TARDIS won't be a regular part of the titles?

I'm sure its just there for marketing. The text will likely be all that is in the titles.

I have mixed feelings about that really. I think it should be used, 'cause it's so unbelievably simple and cool, but on the other hand. I can't imagine it.

Yeah, I mean, I reckon it's just a marketing thing, but if they used it for the title sequence, it would be cool, but at the same time...there are some apprehensions.

I assume it would be. And why not...? If the character shifts in time, so should the presentation of the show. It doesn't really matter in the long run anyway.

I like the idea of re-booting "Doctor Who" right now. A new actor, a new companion, a new showrunner (with connection to the former, of course). Actually, just going on as if nothing had happened (aside from the regeneration) would have felt weird to me. So, kudos!

Stumbled upon filming videos of what appears to be episode one of the new season. Apparently it involves ducks. Somehow. Will not say more at this moment, as what little bit is there is vague, confusing, and lolsome simultaneously. Oh, alright, I lied. Minor spoilers-ish apply. There are more filming videos scattered about, but that's the only one where you can really hear anything. Least that I've found.

And thanks to this I wish I were five years younger and lived in the UK.

I agree. I could very easily envisage the DW logo being used at the end of the end credits to good effect, but I wouldn't expect it in the opening titles.

Nice logo all together! Very much an echo of the 60s / early 70s.
With the new old TARDIS it's certain that Moffat's DW is going to go closer to the source... whether this will be a success I'm not sure, but if the ratings can hold after the Cult of Tennant then I guess DW is here to stay.

Actually the logo I think signifies an interesting colour tone shift for the series. The previous logo, like the opening credits, was very red / orange and if you look at all of BBC's marketing (especially on their website) uses a red spectrum; red equals danger, adventure, etc.
But the new logo, with some of the early publicity pictures we've seen so far, is very blue, black, silver all of which equals mystery and intrigue... Interesting...

I expect the title sequence will show the police box merging into the DW logo, which will then transform into the Doctor Who logo, or some such nonsense.

On a sad note, Barry Letts, who produced Doctor Who during the 1970s (and later produced the Timothy Dalton version of Jane Eyre) died today. B)

Part of me would like them to get rid of the title sequence and just have that animation on the website showing the new Logo as a title card.

Sad to hear about the passing of Barry Letts, he was fantastic producer and will be missed.

Sad news, indeed. He was, by far, my favourite producer of classic Who.

Well, that explains why he needs a new one!

As for Smith's injury, the set can be a dangerous place at times. Nothing to be ashamed of at all. These things happen to everyone now and then. Well done to him in the fact he got straight back into filming after the event.

Sad to hear about Barry Letts. Wasn't a huge fan of his Doctor Who era, but, IIRC, he was the guy who cast Tom Baker, who went on to make, IMHO, the greatest era of the show with producer Philip Hinchcliffe.

I thought his casting of Timothy Dalton as Rochester was inspired. Dalton is still my favourite Rochester.

Over the weekend I was told from a fairly good source that word from the DOCTOR WHO set is that Matt Smith is B) hot amazing in the role and could well upstage Mr Tennent quite quickly.

Can't say more (well, I could).

I have heard exactly the same thing from a very reliable source on the set. Nailed it from Day 1 apparently...

I don't. I think he will be brilliant, don't get me wrong, but to me, Tennant IS The Doctor and no one can top him. Saying that though, I said the same about Brosnan. So who knows, he may be the best of them all, but my gut feeling says Tennant cannot be topped.

And my gut says Tennant was topped before Tennant even came into the role. As for Smith, I dunno. I feel like I'm going to like him, a lot, probably even upper tier material. But I'm holding off judgment until I see full episodes. Alas in the filming videos of good length it's impossible to hear anything, and the ones where you can hear stuff are too short to really get a basis of his performance. He is very good in those snippets though. I have very little cause to doubt Smith will be brilliant. Also helps that he has the man who has written what I think were some of the best episodes of the new series as showrunner. And now that I've finally got BBC America, I can't wait for it to be spring. 2010 is going to be a good year.

I've never much liked Tennant's characterisation. He was good in the Paul Cornell two-parter, though.

The Matt Smith series looks to me like it could be going back to something more akin to the Innes Lloyd-produced Troughton episodes. Which would be no bad thing.
