Very, VERY upsetting news.
Yes, and from what I've been hearing on the grapevine today, a decision the BBC definitely weren't expecting...

I'm handling the news surprisingly well, compared to the twenty-five years it took me to get over Tom Baker leaving the role.
I held a party when Tom Baker left. The relief felt like taking off a tight shoe...

That's how I felt when Pierce Brosnan was out as Bond. Joy!

like Tennant before, the choice will be someone no one was expecting.
I don't think anyone thought it would be anyone but Tennant, did they?

What I meant is that like DT the next actor will be someone who's probably not that well known nationally.
Most of the actors being mentioned in the press are recognisable faces/names and, according to RTD recently, they haven't even started casting yet.

Paterson Joseph seems to be getting all the attention, but I'd rather prefer someone like Robert Carlyle (the long hair one, not the Renard-like )

I warn everyone now...Paterson Joseph cannot act to save his live. And Paterson Joseph seems to be the top of the rumour list...as were actors called Christopher Eccleston and David Tennent at the time.. and look what happened there. When I read that, I felt like if someone kicked my double oh section, but now I'm expecting to see what happens with the cast.

Then let's give it to Chiwetel Ejiofor.Wow. Paterson Joseph as the first black Doctor? I don't know what to say. The Doctor does not have much control over regenerations, so it is 100% fine that he changes race. It could be a master stroke. I'll reserve my judgement for now, that is of course if it actually happens. But I wouldn't be surprised if came to be true...

I've seen PJ act on stage (as I'd actually seen Tennant on stage years before WHO) and I believe him to be a fine actor Zorin. His tv resume has hardly been helped by the crap he's been offered before (BBC Two's awful HYPERDRIVE that RED DWARF wannabe).
Plus there are rumours that the writing team Moffat will assemble for series 5 will include Neil Gaiman (Joseph was in Gaiman's NEVERWHERE tv drama 12 years ago playing a Doctor like character) and playwright Rob Shearman, writer of series one ep Dalek, who, in an article pubished in DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE 9 years ago about how the show should be if it ever returned, Shearman recommended PJ for the role on the strength of his performance in Gaiman's story.

Yes, I thought he was very impressive in The Emperor Jones. And, after all, he is Johnson. I rather like this idea.

The public will not warm to him. He is a safe, middle of the road performer.I warn everyone now...Paterson Joseph cannot act to save his live. And Series One's 'DALEK' episode was the poorest of that season by a long margin. And it shouldn't have been.
But I'm not a HUGE DOCTOR WHO fan. Though I do highly rate, admire and love MOST of the new incarnation of WHO (apart from VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED, THE DALEKS IN MAHHATTAN, 42, THE PLANET OF THE OOD... which were all weak episodes). I just hope we can get away from the metallic corporations with their metal offices, over-designed company logos and token ethnic casting for anyone who needs to be either an academic or a turn-coat. Oh - and bringing back ROSE TYLER was ultimately not as interesting as the teasing that that was going to happen. I love the character and the heritage, but we've done the London council estates. We learnt nothing new about her when she came back.

Wow. Paterson Joseph as the first black Doctor?
He's a very fine actor, who would do the role justice (although I'm gutted Tennant isn't playing it for the next century). But until he's formally announced, I won't be sure it's him (and I keep badgering mates at the BBC to give me any info, but they won't - bastards! )
Series One's 'DALEK' episode was the poorest of that season by a long margin.
What? What!?! - as David Tennant's Doctor would say. "Dalek" was a classic.

No. It was. It was all over the place. And ruined even more by Bruno Kirby still riding the crest of his onscreen gay wave! The set up and premise was great. But once again it looked like Texas was in fact Cardiff - which is becoming a series fault if you ask me.

Too right. And he hasn't got star quality, either.I warn everyone now...Paterson Joseph cannot act to save his live.
The new Doctor Who has been largely tripe so far, anyway. Although, I expect things will improve dramatically under Moffat's guidance.

I have to disagree. "Dalek" was one of the best episodes of the superlative new Who and the splendid Bruno Langley, so good in Corrie, can ride the crest of my wave anytime he likes...

Those of us who witnessed the steady decline of so-called classic Doctor Who (basically, the rot set in after Pertwee went) might beg to differ. Of course, the new series has been greatly boosted by the involvement of Russell T. Davies - the most innovative, influential and best writer (bar none) working in British Television today.

Russell Davies is a good ideas man, but his Doctor Who scripts have mostly been trite rubbish as far as I'm concerned.

Total stunt - casting.
So, it'll definately happen, considering the credentials of the crew making the series in Cardiff and at the Beeb.
So bloody unimaginative.
