For what it's worth I felt that THE NEXT DOCTOR was - potentially - the most effective and successful episode in the Davies era. It was a superb feat of storytelling, writing and acting. The series will not get any better than that for a long time. It was the first time the ambitions of the story were met by the FX team, the composer, the editing team and the cinematography. That was one of the best shot DOCTOR WHO episodes of all time. I'm not a lifelong fan, but I know the new take on the show and this was a crackling, swashbuckling, emotive and cannon-faithful entry of the highest order.

And David Morrissey as a single father of the Victorian age Doctor Who would not just work, it would make the series soar....watch this space....

Paterson Joseph (Johnson from Peep Show) is the bookies favourite it seems.

Maybe; I always thought that came from the fans myself but it could have hit the producers too I suppose. I'm far from convinced it is him.
But then I'd quite like it to be Hugh Grant myself.

Wouldn't it be interesting if The Doctor regenerated into Donna Noble. The Doctor did say that Donna would burn up if she found out about him, but he didn't say how.

I was hoping for an older, silvery haired Doctor. A slower pace and spookier tone now that Steve Moffatt is the man at the wheel.

Someone like David Bradley would've been grand.

Won't happen though - can't see them getting in an oldie.

News now saying that bookies have stopped taking bets on Paterson Joseph - can't remember seeing him in anything other than Peep Show and its not exactly a part that screams "Dr Who!!!" - though I'm not sure what would.

Brosnan? This role yells Dalton!

It's a shame that Robert Carlyle got into Stargate, it would have been wonderful.

And I've read that its possible that the master (John Simm as of now) regenerates at the same time, so maybe tomorrow we'll have the new master's name.

Well, I think it likely to be another relative unknown. There's a guy called Matt Smith taking a lot of bets right now...

Matt Smith???

(A quick google later)

Ah, that Matt Smith! I saw Party Animals (not bad, disappointed it didn't come back) which he had a big role in.

He's another floppy haired pretty boy though. Not saying he'd be a Tennant clone but I'm hoping for someone very different.

My mom thinks it will either be a woman, or a black man.

This is very exciting. Can't wait to see who it will be!

Though I wouldn't mind an older Doctor, I am certain the next Doctor will be young. Near the same age as Tennant. It makes sense, considering the overall age demographic of the viewers.

Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on this Patterson Joseph chap, so looks like he's top of the pile thus far.

Paterson Joseph is the probable candidate and a big casting faux pas in my mind.

I don't think Peterson Joseph will get it at all. IMO, I think that it will be someone we haven't even heard of, and a completely unexpected choice.

This takes me back to October 2005, I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Daniel Craig would get the Bond gig, it was a suprise to everyone.

I hope you are right, but - in terms of casting suspects - Paterson Joseph is technically someone the public doesn't know of and - despite the press rumouring - is exactly the unexpected choice.

I like someone's Danny Dyer comment. Seriously.

I very much doubt it'll be Joseph. I bloody well hope not, anyway! Chiwetel Ejiofor is a far more likely choice. Although, he doesn't really need to do Doctor Who.

Julian Rhind-Tutt appears to be a strong contender for the role, as well.

Bookmakers very rarely get it wrong, and with 15 minutes until the start of the show Matt smith is 1/3 favourite. Would appear to be pretty cut and dried..

The clues I've heard suggest Matt Smith though.
