But I'm looking forward to see what he comes up with. The BBC publicity pics are rather cool:
There's a big old interview with him on the official site: http://www.bbc.co.uk...ew_doctor.shtml

I really don't think he'll be as good as Tennant though.
But I don't wish to see...

Well yes - if you want to cast an actor in a new role based on the blinkered criteria of work he did ten years ago, but that's not what I'm doing here. I'm trying to suggest who would be appropriate in taking DOCTOR WHO 'forward'. Dyer would have been good. He is my suggestion. And good casting should not be predicated on what actors have done before but what they have shown before.I hope you are right, but - in terms of casting suspects - Paterson Joseph is technically someone the public doesn't know of and - despite the press rumouring - is exactly the unexpected choice.I don't think Peterson Joseph will get it at all. IMO, I think that it will be someone we haven't even heard of, and a completely unexpected choice.
This takes me back to October 2005, I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Daniel Craig would get the Bond gig, it was a suprise to everyone.
I like someone's Danny Dyer comment. Seriously.
Be good wouldn't it? Timelord as football hooligan.
Matt Smith......? Dangerous casting. But not wrong casting. He is the first actor to not have grown up with the role on television around him, but that may be no bad thing. He lacks the offscreen Blue Peter ambassadorial gravitas of David Tennent. He does look too young - agreed. But we are not getting DOCTOR WHO as written before. We are getting DOCTOR WHO as written by a NEW writer and show runner. So whatever the real fans are stressing about is irrelevant. This is a new actor in a new era of DOCTOR WHO as envisaged by a new writer. Matt Smith is not a bad actor. He is no better or worse to the people who don't have a clue about him than those who didn't know who David Tennent was four years ago.

I've nothing against him... other than for the first time I'm older than Doctor Who.. oh God....

What's with the Duran Duran hairdo? I'm lost for words.

I've nothing against him either... I just hope they can do something for his hair issues.

Atleast it's better than Brozzas Die Another Day cut.
I like it. It suits him.

Really? To me, the GE haircut was the main problem of the film.
I must ahve a problem with long hair

Not sure about the hair though. Well. . . To be honest it's slightly better than McGann's wig.

Calm down. My suggestion of Danny Dyer wasn't a serious one but I do like him. He's got a bit of "presence" or whatever you want to call it. I like him much more than the films he's associated with.
First time I realised who Matt Smith was my first reaction was "Ah, a Tennant clone". Interesting to see that they're pushing this age angle. One thing that strikes me about his face - it's obviously youthful but there's something of the "old head on young shoulders" about it. I think Mr Smith might grow on me. But we'll see.
They've managing this gradual buildup of anticipation thing very well aren't they?

My only concern is that he isn't going to have the authority that an older actor would bring to the role. But we'll see.
But, best of all, it's not Paterson Joseph!
Oh, and Danny Dyer sucks buttocks.

It's certainly a risk. But he's got an eccentric and 'alien' quality about him, which is good.
Yeah, it's an unusual face which might suit the part really well.
Oh, and Danny Dyer sucks buttocks.
Oi! Dalton! Ahhtside, now!

I thought that they would cast a young actor, but this is even younger than I thought.Though I wouldn't mind an older Doctor, I am certain the next Doctor will be young. Near the same age as Tennant. It makes sense, considering the overall age demographic of the viewers.
Yes, absolutely. I think he will be fine. His hair is fine too, the Doctor is an eccentric fellow. Judging from that interview, he's got the enthusiasm, energy, quirkiness, and intelligence on his side. I love his black costume as well, very mysterious. That is of course if he does indeed wear that. It's certainly a risk. But he's got an eccentric and 'alien' quality about him, which is good.

No, that's not the Doctor's hair or clothes, although Moffat did say that he thought he was perfect in every way, including the hair, so he might get a not disimilar hairdo as the Doctor!

I agree with him. I’m sold with this casting choice. Even though Tennant is leaving, one can't help but feel excited about the new direction. No, that's not the Doctor's hair or clothes, although Moffat did say that he thought he was perfect in every way, including the hair, so he might get a not disimilar hairdo as the Doctor!

Indeed! It’s extremely foolish to write people off before they even get in front of the camera. Something people have come to learn time and time again. Anyway, consider me onboard from the start.I've learned my lesson not to judge the new guy too harshly.

Personally, I hope the 11th Doctor has a darker, more devious side to him. I could do without the whole "Isn't humanity wonderful!" nice guy act for a bit.

It's not that I'm after a return of Colin Baker's suit, but just something different.

What excites me the most is that Matt Smith is anything but a safe choice. I was already over the moon about the possibility of Steven Moffat in charge of the series. With this bit of casting I'm on pins and needles.
That's not the 11th Doctor's costume. Smith just got the role and has said he's going to spend the next six months immersing in the history of the show, etc., uncovering what his Doctor is going to be about, what he's going to bring to it. The TARDIS background was added digitally after the photo was taken even.I hope he's not going to look like that. His style is too much like Tennant. Or Ecclestone. Are we going to have another Doctor who only dresses in neutral tones?
It's not that I'm after a return of Colin Baker's suit, but just something different.
