I like the sound of this scene:

"When [Silva] eventually recounts the blood-curdling turn of events that led him to turn his back on his country, it's difficult not to have some empathy for him."

Yes, that got my attention too. I sort of hope that it's not too soon after we meet Sliva, perhaps the isolation cell or even the graveyard would be powerful.

I think that is what we all expected nice to have some confirmation though, that is strangely positive news.

Thinking this through, it’s probably in the isolation cell. There is that shot of Silva unzipping his boiler suit from one of the TV spots – he seems to be smiling at Bond as he does so.
It would seem logical that the grisly disfigurement and ‘blood-curdling turn of events’ that motivate him are connected.

I know that in the scene just after this, M ‘confesses’ something to Bond.

I'm thinking the isolation cell, when the captive Silva has Bond and M as his captive audience. A long monologue in the graveyard would probably slow down the closing sequence quite drastically, particularly at a time when the onus is on Bond to move into the chapel as quickly as possible.

when they were making Casino Royale

We know!
Are you for real? And what has this got to do with Skyfall reviews?

You’ve been asked nicely a number of times, please stop writing like this (with all this enter, enter, enter) and stop trying to derail threads with superfluous posts.

That Xan Brooks is clearly and idiot. Pompous and cantankerous.

Mate
Dont you think you are over reacting a bit considering the fact that we haven't even watched the movie!?

No.
Read this: http://www.guardian....rst-look-review
And tell me if that is not self-indulgence writing. Here´s a piece of it:

"Don't they realise that 007 has always been at his most convincing when he's at his crudest and least adorned; when he's serving as a blank canvas for macho fantasy; the dark angel of our disreputable natures?" - Dexter Morgan monologue?...or a Raoul Silva male fantasy speech?

" I couldn't help feeling that Mendes' hitherto sinuous, satisfying vehicle veers worryingly into the rough" - Say what?

Yeah, the guy sure can write better than most half-brained critics out there. But what he´s saying is utter rubbish. Sometimes you don´t just have to know how to write, you have to have something interesting and well constructed to say.

I read that review this morning. The fellow seems to be disapointed that Skyfall is not simply a film where all Bond does is kick behind and collect notches on his bed post.

Well that suits me fine. I would prefer Skyfall to have some depth, and not merely be hetero male fantasy.

Yes, and the big trap is that if they had made a film like that The Guardian would have totally panned it – Bond can’t win with them.

Stuff like that has got to stop. If you want to talk about Henry Cavill being considered for Bond. That's fine, but it's not OK to talk about it in this thread.

Act 3 does seem to be one of the few things that divides critics on this film.

Act 3 does seem to be one of the few things that devices critics on this film.

The comparisons so far appear to be ranging between STRAW DOGS and HOME ALONE. I guess we know what they mean, but odd that both have been mentioned more than once, although that might just be symptomatic of lazy reviewing.

Is this that thing where someone trolls on purpose to get into a specific trolling online club? I'm not aware of the specifics. I only know they exist from watching The Newsroom.

"Hold your breath and count to ten!"… Skyfall soars!

On Friday night Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film in the Eon series, was previewed for the first time in front of an audience of critics and the world's media.
007 MAGAZINE was in attendance for this historic event and Luke Williams is happy to report that Daniel Craig's third Bond film is a sure-fire winner.

Have any of you witnessed another movie get 100% fresh after first screenings the way this movie has? It's impressive to me, I've never come across that before... but then again I've never followed a movie's release this way before either, tracking almost hour to hour. Is it the first time something likes this has happened?

We should naturally bear in mind that the 100% fresh rating is based only on 13 reviews so far, so I expect that quite a few movies get a good number of positive write-ups early on, but it's definitely an extremely positive indicator. I'd expect some slippage in SKYFALL's rating as more reviews pour in, but hopefully only down to the early to mid 90s.

As a point of reference, these are some other selected Bond movie ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, although the majority of reviews were clearly done retrospectively:
98% DR NO
96% GOLDFINGER
96% FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
94% CASINO ROYALE
83% ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
64% QUANTUM OF SOLACE

My question is will this stay above CR! Because when you look at action there are few to none that get as high as 94% !!

Indeed. It's become much tougher for action films to get such high scores when there are so many reviewers out there, some of whom just want to make and point and be contrary to most others. For instance, STAR TREK got 95%, THE DARK KNIGHT 94% and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 87%. Of course, these ratings are all subjective and don't really matter. Quite fun to see how they stack up though.

"Thomas Newman's frequently hyperactive and seldom coherent musical score will soon have faded (thankfully) from my memory" ; is mentioned as a negative in 007 Magazines's review.

Now i'm VERY excited to hear Newman's score. Hasn't exactly been raved about, has it?

Also, mainstream films always has detractors from "serious" elitist critics who think that film should a high art and trying to appeal to a general audience automatically makes a film inferior.

You are so right ! If you see the see the second comment after the start of the thread before the reviews came in I was sure that this will get an overwhelmingly positive reaction since this movie has less of action, more focused on the story, something critics seemed to be all to be pleased with. They hate movies with more action which are meant to entertain.

My honest take on film review is this :
When judging a movie take all the factors in account, If a movie is meant to be a people pleaser rate it for that also, not everything in a movie is about the story.there's a reason millions of millions of dollars are invested in movies.

Seems weird that a publication devoted to loving Bond films would call any of them 'irredeemably awful'.
