Not the best comparison obviously for various reasons, but as Rotten Tomatoes appears to have become the barometer of our times in collating film reviews, I thought it might be quite useful to see how SKYFALL does in stacking up against the rest of the series. I think top five would be a very strong performance.

96% - Goldfinger
94% - Casino Royale
86% - Thunderball

74% - The Living Daylights

71% - For Your Eyes Only
65% - Live and Let Die
64% - Quantum of Solace

I read somewhere today that it was "100% Fresh" - but guess this is because it's early days yet.

That's right. 100% for SKYFALL so far, but only based on a sample of 13 reviews, so I'm waiting for a few more to see if that trend will continue. Fingers crossed. I'm sure it will get some negative reviews simply for being a Bond movie.

It's not looking bad though, is it.

I'm getting giddier than a particularly impatient child waiting to open a birthday present.

Me too. These review scores aren't helping my impatience at all! My expectations are even higher than they were before CASINO ROYALE.

Yep. It looks like they may have gotten things very right this time, bar a possibly over self-indulgent and introspective third act - which I'll have to forgive in a true OHMSS fashion (Bond is allowed to be personal occasionally).

I would think a Top 5 is just about a sure thing. In fact, I would think we are headed to 97%+ with the reviews I have read. I haven't really heard a knock against it yet...at least not a "rotten" knock.

I wonder what was wrong with Tomorrow Never Dies, I didn't think it was rotten..

Currently, Skyfall stands at 97% based on 32 reviews. I believe it will end up around 93-95%.

Rotten Tomatoes always befuddles me with their ratings. In this case, this list of James Bond movies is pretty accurate. (Except I disagree with the rating for OCTOPUSSY, which was a decent Bond outing.)

Ouch.

I accept I probably rate SPECTRE higher than most here, but surely not too many would slot it between QUANTUM OF SOLACE and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN!

I think it doesn’t really matters, because SP it’s already a box office success … After all, Bond movies are mainly aimed for general moviegoers, and not for the critics (they aren’t arthouse films). So I believe it could be more relevant here a rating like IMDb’s which measures audience popularity, and there Craig’s latest entry still has a strong 7,3 which gives it a very decent fifth place among the EON’s series - together with DN.

But these percents don´t mean anything - the majority of reviews for the films up to the 90´s aren´t taken into account here, and if you just decide the current reviews are pro or con when so many reviewers are rather in favor of the film but have issues with it - it just is not an accurate way to measure things.

Of course, if people only know two categories ("Awesome!" / "Sucks!") one knows why sites like Rotten Tomatoes or MetaCritic do get traffic.
