More confirmation that the singer/band are already chosen.

Sam Mendes has said that he already knows who will sing Spectre's theme.
The filmmaker refused to reveal the identity of the musician tapped for the 24th James Bond film.
"When will you find out? You'll have to ask Barbara Broccoli, but I would say - on the basis of the last one - very, very late in the day," he told Entertainment NOW!.

With the rumors having been spot on so far, I guess we're getting either Sam Smith or Adele for the title track.  Neither of which are particularly good or exciting choices, IMO.

I'd bet my James Bond Ultimate Collection that it's Adele again. Same director, same crew (barring DP), they're going for consistency. "Skyfall" was universally well received (apart from the odd Judas on here), it won an Oscar for goddsake, let's go again!

Sam Smith? Puke

Except that Adele hasn't, to my knowledge, released anything since Skyfall - two years ago. She's been concentrating on family life. There were rumours that she was to release an album this year, but nothing came of it. We will, as they say, see...

I'd be very happy with Adele, especially if it was something more upbeat, like her "Rolling in the Deep"

Watching the Royal Variety Performance, Shirley Bassey still has the power and prowess to belt out a fantastic Bond theme.

Bassey would be a cool choice since the film is sort of evoking a retro theme for the series. You can't deny that the lady has still got it.

The speculation is that SPECTRE may tie in quite nicely with Adele's return and third album, so boosting her profile with another (Oscar-nominated) Bond theme could suit her pretty well really...

Grammy nominations were announced today.  Sam Smith tied with BeyoncĂ© and Pharrell Williams for most nominations.  Yeah, I think it'll be him.  They've been behind the times musically in the past, they'll want to be out in front and in step with what's commercially current yet artistically respectable.  If he wins any of the top awards (Album of the Year and/or Record of the Year) the way Adele did, then they'll come off as brilliant for signing him up before the fact.

I believe Adele will return some day no matter what and maybe even do a 3rd

She has such a long career ahead of her, she could do it like Bassey.

And I feel like it has been to long to Bring Back Bassey (B.B.B.).

I'm not so much vexed by who performs the song as what kind of theme song is written for Spectre. The editor of "Heat" magazine, according to a very interesting article in the Guardian, thinks that the film's title gives it an appeal both to the recent fans of the films (and games) and the fans and audiences who have followed the series for decades (Like me!)

So, what kind of theme tune? Given the success of Adele's Skyfall, my guess is something similar, but not an obvious "carbon copy". I'll be surprised - but impressed - if the lyricist manages to title the song "Spectre", but I imagine the word will be in the lyric. And given the present day film but retro title, I'd very much like a nod to the original James Bond theme - as with Skyfall - to be included.

I think we can safely say that Taylor Swift will NEVER record a Bond track. I don't believe Rihanna or Lady Gaga will either. The last time EON went for a well-known pop-star (Madonna) it didn't end so well. I'd love for Shakira to do it. Watching those hips shake during the main title sequence  . Alas, I think that is only a dream....

I could see that, but I think with the reintroduction of SPECTRE, EON may look for something a bit closer to Tom Jones' 'Thunderball.' I would actually prefer that, over the sultry and dark Skyfall, a more upbeat song would be perfect.

Tom Jones, through The Voice UK, is having a bit of a resurgence over here in the UK - it wouldn't be out of the question for him to return to James Bond with the SPECTRE title track.

I heard that over-hyped one-trick pony Michael Bubble - sorry, Buble - mooted again in media today.

Why is it the media always base their assumption on singers/songs that sound like a Brosnan video game Bond theme with that big orchestral pomp and twangy guitar, 'Cry Me A River' was the song they used to champion Bubble.

Does my head in.

Tom Jones and "AN Other" perhaps? Including Sir Tom would be a clever nod in the direction of the film Thunderball, and the book which introduced SPECTRE.

So I can see a duet - just so long as it's not Cerys Matthews. (Right now it is cold outside and I don't need that song to remind me!)

(Actually the CR theme "You Know My Name" is a favourite of mine, reminds me a bit of a souped up version of "Thunderball" - I wouldn't mind something along those lines, including, as "Skyfall" did, a reference back to the Monty Norman theme.)

I'd like that too. GF, TB, AVTAK*, GE and SF are the only songs which included the Bond theme. You may add in Dr. No and From Russia with Love as Bond theme appeared in both movies' title sequences.

*only the full album version, not the one actually used in the movie

Doesn't LTK also use part of the james bond theme? Surrender from TND does as well, even though it's the ending theme.

Adding to previous post about Adele's Grammy success prior to recording the Bond song compared with Sam Smith's current Grammy success (tied for the most nominations with 6):

The timing works out, too.  Adele released 21 in 2011, led the Grammy nominations once announced in late 2011 -- around the time SKYFALL began production -- and won the top prizes the following Spring before recording the title track for release in the fall.  Sam Smith has two of these three points in his favor as well; he may get the third as well, seeing as he's the only one nominated in the top 2 categories (Record of the Year and Album of the Year).  Imagine how fortuitous it would be for the producers to secure the current Grammy champ who also happens to be British on two consecutive occasions.

Calling it.

Dave

4 films in a row have ended on the Bond theme.

And the last 2 also ended with the gun barrel.

I wonder how much one effects the other...

I'd like Craig's films to keep the barrel where it is until Bond 7 but I'd also like a ending credits song...

Personally, I don't really care where the gunbarrel is. I'd rather just see a great movie. But I agree, let's have an ending credits song.
