I've been petitioning for Radiohead to do a Bond theme for years. I'd certainly take them over many of the suggestions we've heard in a heartbeat.

Confirmed that that pic of Ellie leaving Abbey Road was about her finishing her 3rd album and not about the SPECTRE title song....I think.. :P

She could have recorded the Bond song at the same time as doing her 3rd album. It could even be one of the tracks on the new album couldn't it?

It won't be Adele. Or Sam Smith. Or any of the list of contenders currently out there.

I know this is an old thread however, i have a friend who is working on spectre and in a meeting with Sam Mendes he expressed that he wanted Radiohead to do the theme tune. The next day i checked the odds on the bookies to find that they were really high up the list. To me this confirmed the rumour, no where on the internet or in any press have mentioned that radiohead might do the theme tune. so i think that its quite likely that it will be radiohead!!

I've been listening to the 'Best of Radiohead' album, and I'd be happy for them to get the gig. I hope they do, actually. I like their melancholic style.

The best way to make a great Bond title song is to basically do the exact opposite of everything they've done in that deparent for the last two and a half decades.

Would as much weight be leant to the statement, 'It would be nice to know who the title song singer will be in September...as it will be 2 months from the release date.'

The only Bond song in recent memory that I don't like is 'Another Way to Die'. I don't mind the others.

Going off the subject of who is performing it to what is actually in it - I wonder if, like Skyfall, there will be a nod and a wink to the past?

Skyfall had the four notes from the Monty Norman theme after the first chorus, and as with its predecessor the new movie, if the trailer is any guide, has quite a bit of stuff referring back to another era, intentionally I think. Including, of course, the use of a more than a few bars from OHMSS.

The LTK theme opened like "Goldfinger". David Arnold used the opening bars of "From Russia With Love" in the TND incidentals. "You Know My Name" came close to including the Norman theme without quite getting there. Even Jack White includied a guitar riff with notes from the OHMSS theme. (He likes that Bond theme, I read somewhere.)

Given the subject matter of the film - re-introducing an adversarial syndicate from the past and possibly an old adversary himself - it wouldn't surprise me if there isn't something included in the theme music to re-inforce that message. Perhaps the trailer music provided a heavy clue?

Sam Mendes knew who was doing the song in December 2014.
We will find out "very, very late in the day."
When the song artist is released, perhaps there'll be no surprises.

Nicely done... ;)

Yes, nicely done.
And it's not the first time ACE has dropped the very same hint. Back in March, this went largely unnoticed.

When it comes to the Bond theme artists, I have the oddest feeling there'll be no surprises.

This together with Roger Friedman's source saying “The choice is so random and out of left field, you wouldn’t believe it.” is seriously making me thing it might well be Radiohead.

At least it looks like it won't be Smith or Goulding at this point. So there's that bit of good news to hold on to.

Still, EON hasn't been in the business of making good title songs for a LONG time now, so chances are this will be bad too. Hopefully Radiohead focuses on trying to make a great SONG rather than a great "BOND SONG". Its the focus on the latter that has led to the lackluster efforts of the past three decades.

I would absolutely love to see Jessie J do it. If Skyfall needed a sultry songstress in Adele, a movie that is literally about the villains needs a b**ch.

Sorry you think so, tdalton.. I think that apart from "Die Another Day", "Another Way To Die" and "Tomorrow Never Dies", I have NO complaints about any of the title songs in that time frame. Again, I'll try to be optimistic if Radiohead are the chosen artist.. I just hope that it doesn't end up sounding like their usual blend of whiny, sludgy dirge..lol!

I like LTK and GE's title tracks. LTK manages to be good despite its Bond trappings and GE is good in large part because it goes in a different direction musically than simply squeezing the Bond theme in behind everything and callingbit a day. Everything else is either uninspired dreck (TND, DAD, AWTD), awful pastiche (TWINE,SF) or just lyrically bad to the point it ruins a decent instrumental (YKMN).

I'm in no way familiar with Radiohead, so I have no idea what kind of song they'll do. Knowing EON, though, they'll demand an absurd amount of the usual Bond trappings to go in the song that may or may not benefit the song.

Come on everyone - you know with Mendes love of LALD that the artist has to be...Paul McCartney. Talk about "no surprises" and flying under the radar.  :)

Yes, and hopefully Macca would insist that Sir George Martin do the score instead of Newman...

I think we are getting a bit carried away with these LALD "links" on the basis of;

1) the teaser poster looks like the LALD poster of Roger Moore

2) the pre title credit scene

3) a plane loses its wings

4) LALD is a favourite of Messrs. Craig and Mendes.

The movie trailer appears to have more in common with the classic 1960/70s movies in general than anything else. The music channels one 1960s film in particular. There are the three or four nods to Roger Moore's first Bond film for certain but I doubt if Spectre will be LALD revisited.

For those wondering what a Radiohead-recorded Bond theme might sound like, this should give you a good idea. The song was originally written for the 1998 "Avengers" film but was unused for some reason.

IMO, its lyrics were awful.  Not as bad as those found in "Tomorrow Never Dies", but they're of a similar style, trying to capture what it means to be "Bond".  The overuse of the word "you" throughout that song is beyond distracting and is, IMO, a major detriment against the song.

I don't find YKMN lyrically bad at all. It's easily one of the best all time Bond songs IMHO.

I can tell why it wasn't used.
