I don't find YKMN lyrically bad at all. It's easily one of the best all time Bond songs IMHO.

I like the idea of YKMN, but the execution is poor.  The musical track that they chose for the version that is actually in the film is rather poor, as the mixing of the song leaves quite a bit to be desired (Cornell's vocals are far too muted in the film version).  The version that Cornell released as a single, which is more rock-oriented in terms of its sound, is far superior.

But in terms of the lyrics, it's the overuse of the word "you" that just kills it for me.  By my count, 36 of the song's 50 lines contain "you", and that's not even including other lines that include variations of the word.  It becomes distracting after a bit, at least for me.

I do very much like the instrumental though, as it's presented in the non-film version of the song.

Sorry you think so, tdalton.. I think that apart from "Die Another Day", "Another Way To Die" and "Tomorrow Never Dies", I have NO complaints about any of the title songs in that time frame. Again, I'll try to be optimistic if Radiohead are the chosen artist.. I just hope that it doesn't end up sounding like their usual blend of whiny, sludgy dirge..lol!

They have been gearing up to something like this for 18 years  - remember their song Exit Music (for a film)?

I like it, actually. So far, it's the best Radiohead song I've heard.

Well this morning ok UK BBC Radio 2, breakfast show DJ Chris Evans confirmed "100%" that he knows who is doing the Bond theme, and they text him last night to break the news and it's all in the bag and ready.

Not sure if this means he can reveal it soon, or that the song itself will be revealed as a celebrity phone is just ripe for hacking in the wrong media hands so that fact it supposedly is out there now is interesting.

Still...could mean an announcement or exclusive airplay is on the cards hopefully?

Well given Cornell was announced end of July for CR, an artist announcement for this in the next week or two is very much realistic...another factor also is that the other major blockbuster with an almost similar big-pop-artist single release, the final Hunger Games film, should also be announcing shortly - they've always announced it end of July/early August.

What does "pretty much" mean in that respect?

Referring to the £15k bet that someone tried to place on Radiohead, he said something along the lines of "if I were a bookmaker, I'd try to find that person and take their bet. That's all I'm saying."

Ellie Goulding has my vote. I have a feeling it'll be Adele again, though.

So be it, I suppose. She won an Oscar the last time around...

Muse could be good. After the ballad for Skyfall that suited the reflective nature of that film, both in regard to Bond and to the franchise, it would be nice to have a hard hitting, up-tempo number that matches the idea of Bond firing on all cylinders and really taking it to them this time.

I love Muse, but would love Lana Del Rey to do it more. She'd be perfect, one would think. The drama, the seriousness, the voice. And there's an element of danger to her style. Real world, melancholy danger.

Radiohead would be the most divisive choice of those mentioned - and split fans the most. It would also generate the most headlines.

It's precisely for those reasons that I reckon Radiohead have got the job.

Her style just screams classic Bond. Born to Die and Summertime Sadness both sound as if they could be Bond songs already and who beside maybe Shirley Bassey herself has a sound that would fit a Bond film titled Spectre better than Lana Del Rey?

Yeah but Bond rarely gets them when they're fresh! Adele was actually pretty zeitgeisty for them! :) Hadn't Duran Duran even broken up before they did View To A Kill?

Oh I don't know about that! Tom Jones and Thunderball - he'd only been around as a recording artiste for a year or so. Nancy Sinatra and You Only Live Twice - she had a hit the previous year.

Then again, going through the lists the Bond people tend to go for acts that have been around a bit - Tina Turner, Gladys Knight and of course Shirley Bassey, though prior to Goldfinger she hadn't been around too long.

I've always found that, with one or two exceptions, they go for the artiste that would fit the song or produce a typical "Bond sound". The exceptions I'm thinking of are Madonna and Jack White (Alicia Keys on her own might have provided a more typical Bond theme.)

Even Paul McCartney's Live And Let Die, left field though it seemed at the time, sound more and more classic Bond the more times I hear it.

I'd argue the LALD example was what they had in mind with White, the idea was probably to get something from him along the lines of Seven Nation Army (which would have made an interesting song for Casino Royale with different lyrics).

The first few years sure; but after the first five it's old artists all the way.

Yeah I think anyone who hasn't heard Seven Nation Army shouldn't be passing judgement on who records a Bond song- or anything to do with music! :)

It's also worth noting the video's influence on Danny Kleinman's Skyfall titles.

It's a shame that somebody like White, who has an obvious love for music and a dedication for it, will likely be remembered by Bond fans only for Another Way To Die, a song that does neither White nor Keyes justice. Here's a brief snippet of White, the Edge and Jimmy Page jamming up on the hypnotic Kashmir riff:
