But even if openly denying something that will happen seems to be the new default position for PR these days...

 

The only thing that makes it plausible that Smith was at least approached was his recent album and Grammy success.  Although, despite a slight parallel to Adele´s career trajectory (she was much more successful, by the way), I don´t think winning a Grammy has ever been the deciding factor for any artist to be asked to contribute the next Bond song.

 

Also, Smith´s recent vocal cord problems could also have been the reason for not considering him or for him dropping out.

I'm very much hoping that this is the case.  We need a great Bond title song.  It's been a very, very long time since we've had a title song that could be considered great.

I like Ellie Goulding so if it is her i'll be pleased , Sam Smith isnt my cup of tea though, but i'm secretly hoping Chris Cornell comes back as you know my name is a masterpiece.

I'd say forget Ellie Goulding. She and Smith are friends and I think they cooked this up between them as a bit of fun and misdirection.

I had never even heard of Ellie Goulding before she appeared in this thread. I looked up a few of her songs on YouTube last week and was still none the wiser - I hadn't heard any of them before and none seemed memorable or catchy. She can hold a tune but seems rather nondescript with nothing to differentiate her from the dozens of contemporary mid-range pop clones of which she seems to be one. I would be surprised if Goulding was chosen as she seems to have a much lower profile than, say, Sam Smith. All of the Craig films have gone with very established artists with quite high profiles. Even those who didn't win a guernsey are a veritable music who's who: Amy Winehouse, Muse, etc.

That's my thinking as well.  Given that they knew who the artist was back at the press conference that kicked off the production of the film, I think it's a safe bet that the song has already been completed.

Anyone else have a feeling that the SPECTRE title song will have a bit of a Live and Let Die vibe going on? There seems to be so many echoes of it from everything i've seen so far. It's no secret that it's Craig and Mendes' favourite Bond film, so who thinks we'll get some YKKM/LALD style rock tune?
