still no Sade theme song.
But I'd rather have Adele than Beyonce(all looks and no talent).

These days some classic Bond themes would be considered "safe" - GF, TB, even LALD - a song where risks were taken, but it worked. It is about getting the right song and the right performer.
Well, GF is *the* template, no? So of course a reproduction of that song would be "safe." And I've always thought that TB--kinda fun though it is--is a weak attempt to recapture the magic of GF.
Let's face it: Bond songs haven't been very consistent, even from the beginning. So I can't be too hard on EON for struggling to deliver great themes. You can hire talented people and it can still end up completely rubbish ("Another Way to Die," I'm looking at you). From their point of view, there's a lot of incentive to go the safe route, particularly since the safe route got them an Oscar.

Not surprised, if true. I've been of the opinion this is Adele's gig right from the start.
I liked Skyfall's song. It hit all the right notes, and think the Craig era title songs have been of good quality - minus AWTD of course. I'd like a more upbeat 'Rumour Has It' type song this time, and with the mood of how SPECTRE's pre-title sequence ends, we could be getting just that.

I hope it is true because I love Adele's Skyfall song. If it does turn out to be true, I hope she does something more upbeat, to make sure there is a contrast between the two themes.

Remember when each Bond movie had its own look and feel and personality?
Or even when they didn't, they were at least recycling stuff from a decade or two earlier, rather than just a movie or two?
Bring back Saltzman!
Calling Burke and Hare... Calling Burke and Hare...

Strangely, after watching SKYFALL again, I do think the song works beautifully within the film and assisted by the imagery. Listening to it apart from the film I have my reservations.
So - I´m eating my hat here a bit.

EON wanting to do exactly the same thing again in the next film when something was LUDICROUSLY successful is just unheard of...

Has this now been confirmed? Aside from being of course the obvious move, no surprises. I just ask for professional reasons there.
Nothing is confirmed until it's officially confirmed.

I know where you are coming from Orion, and it could have happened were it not for an insistence that the title "Thunderball" was used for the film's song instead.
I always thought MKKBB was the best Bond theme never used. I never heard the lyrics until the 30th Anniversary theme tune CD which had the Dionne Warwick version on it, the orchestration of which is almost identical to the non-vocal version on the TB soundtrack.

Interesting. Roger Friedman was one of the very first, if not the first, to report details of Adele's "Skyfall". This is probably a fairly solid report. This article claims it will not be Adele.

Personally I wouldn't mind Lana Del Rey. If they go with a guy,I'd prefer other than Sam Smith.

True. Surprising. Maybe Adele stepped back - with the recent rumors that she insisted on re-recording parts of her new album I could imagine that the pressure to deliver another Bond song was just too much.
Sam Smith... I don´t know a lot about his music. But it is very poppy and dance oriented, right? And his voice is, um, rather high, too much falsetto.
Well, let´s wait and hear.

Glad it's not her, I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping that it's going to be either Arctic Monkeys or Lana Del Rey.

Adam Levine could be a good choice.

Agreed. Roger Friedman is very reliable and well connected. He also had the news that Mendes was back in talks with Eon, after he'd said he'd opted out.

So I'm seing a few votes for Lana Del Rey and at least two for Alex Turner/Arctic Monkeys...
In a post-Adele world, who else might be good? I think we need something moody and atmospheric for this film, given the topics brought forth as central to the plot and mood of SPECTRE in the first trailer and the teaser trailer before that. Maybe something a bit forlorn too.

Unfortunately, it is not anymore about who would be great - but who the marketing department wants to push.
Posted 15 June 2015 - 05:48 AM
Unfortunately that is probably very true.
Still, we have been reasonably lucky so far with the reboot: Chris Cornell with the excellent 'You Know My Name' was just perfect for Casino Royale (as was the excellent title credit sequence that accompanied it) and Adele with 'Skyfall' (together with the pretty good Skyfall title credit sequence) hit the right note for Skyfall. By contrast, while I love QoS as a film (I know many don't), the Jack Black/Alicia Keys song 'Another Way to Die' was just woeful, as was the accompanying opening credits. So hopefully in the battle between marketing and aesthetics a suitable balance is achieved this time like it was with CR and SF.

A return of Adele wouldn't be the worst thing to happen, but I can (very comfortably) live with it if she doesn't do it. Never heard anything by Sam Smith - and I don't really have the desire to. People on who's musical taste I can very much rely told me that it's not worth time and effort. Heard some stuff by Lana Del Rey, and I must say that I never understood all the fuss around this semi-talented (at best) marketing hype person. Please, No.
