...and I'd be careful about posting that link here if it is legit, JC..
If I thought it genuine, I would have just mentioned it without posting the link, but I am highly skeptical.

Very skeptical about this. Seems too early to have the Bond song already.
Could be a rejected commissioned song though, without the usual blended score orchestration.

It sounds very fake.
And waaaaaaaaay too 90's
Posted 14 April 2015 - 11:32 PM
Okay, finally got a listen. I wouldn't even take it with a pinch of salt - it sounds very fake. Besides, if it did leak why isn't it being reported all over.
Posted 15 April 2015 - 01:15 AM
Clearly fake, and thankfully so.

I was looking at Sony's roster, because, you know, synergy. I see a few artists, outside of Adele, Smith and Del Rey, that could sign the title song:
Janelle Monae
John Legend
David Bowie
Pharell (producing)
Jennifer Hudson
Daft Punk
Mark Ronson (producing)
Sade I was about to strike her from the list of hopefuls but then I heard this. Listen for the guitar licks, around the 55 second mark that are similar to Thomas Newman's "Quartermaster":
For me, it really depends on what EON & Mendes are going for. Do they want a "Skyfall" redux? I hope not because I feel you run the risk of getting a "The Living Daylights," when Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill" had set a high mark. Just give us something that "flows" and compliments Daniel Kleinmann's titles.

John Legend hasn't come up much but he could do something.
I'd prefer Adele I think.

Paloma Faith wants to do it. She's with Sony, too.

These two have gone to a lot of trouble.

Paloma said in an interview with Jonathan Ross that she has discovered that someone else is doing it.
She's my top choice, alongside Arctic Monkeys.

I said before SF, let alone Spectre, I wouldn't mind Paloma Faith doing a Bond theme.

Love it! Now it HAS to be Bassey!!
Posted 17 April 2015 - 08:33 AM
Given how in-your-face Skyfall tended to be about the whole issue of old-versus-new and constantly winking to the audience about the franchise's past (plus the whole 50th Anniversary thing), I probably would have been OK with Bassey doing the title track for that film. I would have to imagine that I would have liked it much more than Adele's "Skyfall".
But, now that we're beyond all of that and moving forward, I think the franchise should continue to look forward. Bassey has done three-times as many Bond title tracks as any other artist out there. There are a great number of artists out there who could do a terrific job of it, and they should be given the opportunity to do so.

To adapt a line from "Thunderball" - "I think we got the point"

Rather sweet, that. Pure Bond love.
Just now, the most popular chat show in the Netherlands, 'De wereld draait door', devoted an entire section to Bond title songs, in response to this youtube video. Three Dutch singers were invited to do renditions of Bassey's Bond title songs.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
Let her write and perform the title song, but also let her take a crack at the score as well! There are a couple of instrumental pieces on her ArchAndroid album that sound positively Barry-esque. I think I've posted them elsewhere in the music section.
She is ridiculously talented and can easily run circles around Lana Del Rey and Sam Smith as singers. IMO of course.

Interesting. I need to check out both her and her album.

Unfortunately the link is working for me and the song is a load of pants.
About as genuine as a general election campaign promise.

I listened to a couple of her tracks on youtube and thought, 'no thanks, this is the usual generic bubblegum.'
Then i came across the track Cold War which is a pretty straight forward tune that doesn't provide much cover for the voice to hide behind. You wouldn't know it from the previous 2 tracks i'd listened to, but it turns out she's a good singer.
She's refreshingly absent of the annoying affectations - the warbling etc. - which mariah carey ushered in in the 90s and has infected the entire industry, from Rhianna to, yes even Adelle.
Btw, it's also a superb video. The vids themselves don't seems to be showing up for me today so you'll have to follow the link

... but it turns out she's a good singer.
She's also a splendid performer.
Seen her twice: 2011 as a support act for Prince in Copenhagen, and 2013 at her own concert in Hamburg.
She knows how to feel the vibe of the audience and use it to put on a great show, always feeling real and not plastic.

Janelle Monae is a good call, actually. Famous, good voice, but still interesting and credible.
Posted 18 April 2015 - 08:59 PM
This is the track that reminded me of Barry, somewhat.

Well it seems like Sam Smith is having a bad time with his health (namely, bleeding on the vocal cords), and so if he was front-runner or in the top list, this is surely going to halt his chances due to him dropping lots of shows and seeing top medical specialists.
