[...] might not back to back Bond themes with the same performer suggest lack of imagination and a desire to remind the audience of what's gone before? ("Spectre"? Just like "Skyfall" folks, right down to the theme tune and the vocalist.)

I think the old expression goes "If it ain't broke..."

Yea, but didn't that idea of thinking give us Die Another Day?

I don't know, they changed a lot with that. The style of theme song was different, the bullet flying down the gunbarrel and that's just the beginning. It was that breakage that gave us the fixer - Casino Royale.

I think that it was the creative failure of DIE ANOTHER DAY that led to Broccoli and Wilson to abandon their approach of "if it aint broke don't fix it", which had directly led to the philosophy that led to DIE ANOTHER DAY.

I was talking about the whole movie, not necessarily the title song.

I hope it's true. I have said earlier in this thread that I'd like to hear her do a faster paced song for SPECTRE, similar to her hit "Rolling in the Deep"

I would LOVE for Dame Shirley Bassey to come back!!!  She is the ultimate Bond singer.  Hands down!

The UK tabloids are reporting this now - Adele flying to LA by MGM execs.

Here's hoping!

Doesn't say much, they don't need a lot to speculate. Adele's flying to LA? It has to be because she's doing the Bond theme...

I'm not saying she's not, I would love to hear what she could come up with, but the UK tabloids aren't always the most reliable.

Here's hoping!

The original report was from the Daily Mirror earlier this week, so this might just be going around in circles.

Well, the return of Adele does make sense if the movie is a continuation of the Skyfall themes.

Adele is preferable to other potential artists. She can be the modern Shirley Bassey.

Not even Shirley Bassey did two themes in a row. I'm all for a return of Adele in the future, but not for the next movie. I want someone new just to feel some freshness.

Agreed, but I'd still take back-to-back Adele over Sam Smith.

Why would she fly to LA when the scores for Bond movies (and indeed Adele songs generally) are recorded in London? Also doesn't the waiting to hear what the song sounds like before they decide if they want A) Contradict Whishaw saying the artist had already been chosen B) Sound like a HUGE waste of money given the rest of the (questionable) story of flying her to LA!

I'm not saying she isn't doing it, but frankly i'd say is she is, this story isn't so much an "Insider scoop" as blind luck.

Overnight news - here at least. Sam Smith. Four Grammy Awards.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if Adele made a comeback, or it's someone we haven't thought of yet, I'd say that Sam Smith is a contender for the Spectre theme now, if he wasn't already before now.

I'm not saying he isn't a contender, but I think they already have the title artist signed up, whether it's Smith or not, I doubt the Grammy wins would have affected his chances either way.

Oddly enough, so would I at this point, and I find Adele's "Skyfall" to be just awful.

Watching the Grammys tonight just proved one thing, which is to say that mainstream music is at about the lowest point that I can ever remember it being.

The performer for the title song has been locked since the beginning of December, so the Grammys won't have factored into any of the decision-making.

When Elvis came around, old people screamed "Who the hell is he? And why is he shaking his hips? Get him off the stage! This is not real music!" But the younger audience adored him and turned him into a star. Now you're saying: "Yesterday's Grammy's proved that mainstream music is at about the lowest point that I can remember". No, the Grammy's prove that you're the old guy now and that there is a new and younger generation that loves Sam Smith, Adele, Kanye West, Beyonce, Sia, Iggy Azalea, etc. You can think mainstream music used to be better (we share that opinion, to be honest), but you can't state it as a fact.

Please inform me as to where I stated my opinion as fact?

The phrase "lowest point that I remember it being" would very much imply, if not outright state, that what I'm stating is in fact an opinion and not a fact.

Iggy Pop doing a Bond song would be... Strange. However, I'm also open for Bowie - love his work and I own everything from him.

Bowie is still producing good material. He'd be a terrific pick, even now (and he's even working with Columbia Records). But I doubt they'd go for him. They've been seeking more youthful, fresher artists.

If they can't come up with anyone, I'd happily step in :D

Can't promise that it'd be a song to rival Bassey (or Madonna for that matter) but I'd do my best...
