I can't say I've ever much cared for Sam's music, but I'd be a fool to pass judgement before I've heard it. Hoping they knock it out of the park - and that the rumors are true and we'll be getting the song itself tomorrow, vs. simply an artist confirmation.

Additionally: not that I think this would be a good route to take, given how disastrously the last attempt turned out, but I wonder if this is a quick final head fake and Smith and Ellie Goulding are in fact duet-ing it.

Y'know, this confirms nothing. Remember when Ellie Goulding posted "Live and let die" on Instagram? Sam could be pulling our collective legs in a highly elaborate fashion.

That or he's completely telling the truth.

At least Adele had range in her voice. Smith has zero and sounds like he's whining all the time.

Man, they may as well announce David Beckham as the new James Bond as all the tabloids are posting today JUST to complete a miserable moment in my Bond day.

And it started so well booking my ticket this morning.

*weeps in a self-depression*

True, but definitely elaborate to get hold of a very very rare SPECTRE ring. The co-ordinated posts on all his social media 24 hours before the official announcement is what seals it for me.

I won't be surprised if EON now tweet/post about this officially at 5 (in 15 minutes).

I figured it was him when Ellie Goulding posted " live and let die" on her twitter feed. Clearly a friend covering for a friend. Impossible to tell how good it will be based on what he has done up to this point. I quite like Alicia Keys but AWTD is pretty brutal. Looking forward to hearing it! I'm hoping it's a propulsive theme like LALD.

The most obvious candidate turns out to be the one.

I'm not thrilled about the choice, but, as always, it comes down to the song itself.

True. I was suspicious as soon he said he had "heard" Ellie Goulding was doing it.

It's lucky the song doesn't factor into my enjoyment of the film.

I'm equally intrigued about what it could be. Seems it would be strange to hire an artist and ask them to stretch significantly beyond what they're known for and good at. I'm not sure what the best way to describe Smith's style would be yet - to my ear it's fairly laid back and emotionally raw, consistently so. Were he to turn in something more "propulsive" (I'm all for it), it would be an opportunity to hear him in an entirely new way that might produce phenomenal results.

His prior work doesn't scream "Bond" - but then again, neither did Daniel Craig's, or Sam Mendes', or Tom Newman's. Smith's an amazing talent, without question. One hopes that is the first and best requirement to turning in a stellar Bond tune. I can't say I've personally listened to him a lot or been a huge fan to this point, but I also don't share the opinion that he's without range or 'sounds like he's always whining.'

I prefer a woman for this job. But if they really have to go with a younger male voice then Sam Smith is an OK choice.

*Phew* It will NOT be Radiohead after all.. As Mr. Sam Smith, meh!!...Like others have said, I'll wait and judge when I hear the actual song. I'm not a big fan of his by any means, but hopefully the song will be fully orchestrated like Skyfall was and that will help enormously. *fingers crossed* And lets hope the song has a unique title, more than just "SPECTRE"..

To be frank, the last time the identy of a Bond title song performer has knocked me off of my feet was some 35 years ago. That was when I found out as an eleven year old kid that Paul McCartney had done the title song for LALD a few years ago. Since then it was always "never even heard of the performer", "heard of the performer but not particularly interested" or "Oh no, please not him/her/them". That's not to say that I didn't like one or the other of the songs, but my expectations usually are low enough that there's always the chance for a pleasant surprise.

Said it before, I've heard the name, but not one single song. Certain people told me he's crap, so I decided that I won't venture into his oeuvre before he's announced. Looks like it has to be, hope I get out without bleeding ears... :D

Um...  um...

I will force me to like this one.

Just like the poster.

But...

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, well.  So note to myself: if someone denies something on the internet - it must be true.

If he's confirmed (two hours after he posted that and nothing from Sony or EON) I'm saying

"Meh"

I liked the Comic Relief song he did, but otherwise his sound is a bit...for want of a better phrase...X-Factory for my tastes.

I stand by my latest theory that it will be an 8-way collaboration, "We Are the World"-style, one artist for each tentacle of the Octopus. McCartney, Thom Yorke, Adele, Goulding, Smith, Gaga, del Rey - and Bassey.

Jonny Greenwood is literally the only person that'd make me think Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding doing a duet for SPECTRE is a good idea but I think the internet would explode if it was true

Never heard of this chap prior to all the messages of good will and positive favour from this site...

Can anyone recommend something that people do find favourable, or at least, not offensive!

I liked Lay Me Down which was a duet with John Legend he did for Comic Relief a few months ago.

Bad poster campaign?  Check.

Poor choice of title song performer? Check.

Hasn't been the best of weeks for EON, as far as I'm concerned.  I guess I should be thankful to them, though.  They're giving me a built-in bathroom break right there at the beginning of the film.

You haven't changed, Tdalton! You're still the most pessimistic poster on here! I don't want Smith either but who knows what it'll sound like. Could be brilliant....

He's not for me and is less of a crossover artist than Adele was (who has a bit more cred) but he has a strong, distinctive voice and I'm willing to see what the song will be like.

Does anyone know if we are going to get the actual song tomorrow or if EON are just going to formally announce the artist and possibly the name of the song?
