Said it before, I've heard the name, but not one single song. Certain people told me he's crap, so I decided that I won't venture into his oeuvre before he's announced. Looks like it has to be, hope I get out without bleeding ears... :D

Good luck. ;)

The "certain people" you've talked with are indeed correct.

He's not for me and is less of a crossover artist than Adele was (who has a bit more cred) but he has a strong, distinctive voice and I'm willing to see what the song will be like.

+1

I doubt we'll be hearing the song this early. I guess why use two big media events up at once when you can announce the artist and then unveil the song a bit later?

Does anyone know if we are going to get the actual song tomorrow or if EON are just going to formally announce the artist and possibly the name of the song?

There's always been a gap between artist announcement and the song's actual release, hasn't there? Is there any precedent for the song dropping the same day as the reveal? Strictly from a marketing perspective, it wouldn't make a ton of sense to reveal both tomorrow.

In that case, Mr. Smith has made it a non event, I suppose.

Preview for tomorrow...
Some will love it
Some will hate it

Preview for day after tomorrow...
Some who hated it will say they've started to come around after a few listens

Never heard of this chap prior to all the messages of good will and positive favour from this site...

You must be joking (as Mr. Dunphy certainly is). He's a long standing member of CBn and part of the team (even though we haven't seen much of him as of late).

A lot of talk on the internet about it being another duet, Sam Smith & Ellie Goulding. I don't know if this is better news or not.

"Another Way to Die" was a disaster as a duet

Not sure I understand this sir.

I hadn't heard of Sam Smith.

As to Mr Dunphy...??!

Have you read the replies to his tweet? Only one of them twigged about the ring being a "Bond baddie" ring.

I'll be honest - I've only ever seen his impersonator on that famous introduction on Saturday Night Live last Christmas - the one when the programme gets "pre-empted" by a certain Dr. Evil who is as mad as can be about North Korea and Sony Pictures giving him and his like a bad name! ;-)

Oh, sorry, thought you were referring to this post and that tweet by Mr. Dunphy that's mentioned in it http://debrief.comma...mith/?p=1315745as the three posts above yours do so. No offense intended.

Didn't think you've never heard of Sam Smith as he's been discussed in this very thread for quite a while – but I have to admit that I've never heard of him myself before he became a major part of this discussion. And I've yet to hear anything by him. Bit reluctant to change this fact, but I guess it has to happen sooner than later.

I saw Mr.Smith perform at a festival in Manchester last year. The only song of his I even remotely like is "Money on my Mind", look it up if you haven't heard of him. But even that is a forgettable, generic pop song.

Was really hoping for someone better

Man, it's almost as though new Bond films cause TDalton more pain than joy at this point.

I don't like Smith at all (and, of the major rumored choices, he's my least favorite), but it really does come down to the song itself.

Okay, tried to listen to half a dozen of his songs. Couldn't stand anything for longer than about a minute. Don't know what annoys me more, his voice or the way his songs are produced or the songs themselves.

For the first time ever, I hope that there'll be no vinyl release as I don't want to spend the extra money...

Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding are not the best choice for the Spectre title song! Not as solo- or duet-performance! kotz.gif

Let's try to stay positive, shall we? Okay, most of us wanted to shop more upmarket. Or side market more like. But if this is it, well, then that's just the way it is. And no amount of wishing different is going to change it. In the end it's more important what the song itself is like. I hope...

I won't.

In the Lonely Hour is maudlin, navel-gazing shite, but when Sam Smith has collaborated with other producers the results have been strong. LaLaLa, Latch, Together and Omen are all fine singles. Hoping for the best.

That actually relaxed me a bit, Shark. Thanks, and I hope you´re right. I´ll check those out as, so far, I haven´t been able to stand more than 30 seconds of any of the "songs" I´ve heard.

EDIT: Sorry, I really could´t. Not my game, I´m afraid. Didn´t like any of those four. I´m still trying to keep positive for tomorrow. It´s up to the song, I think. Still, your confidence is quite reassuring. Thanks again.

After sampling more Sam Smith than I knew existed I'm kind of hoping for a duet to water him down some.

I think the backlash against Another Way to Die sealed the deal against duets for a while. Could be wrong of course.
