First suggestion of Sam Smith around here that I can find was January 2014:

Just thought I'd throw in a couple of names that haven't been mentioned.

Katy B.
Sam Smith.

Then, in August 2014, The Sun reported he was in talks with Bond bosses: http://www.huffingto..._n_5660947.html

Probably a joke?

Erm, yes, I'd definitely have thought so. MI6 have posted the same on their main page though - according to "sources". Curiouser and curiouser.

Roger Friedman confirms so it's a done deal!! Interesting that Ellie Goulding was removed from consideration due to Fifty Shades Of Grey..

I'm open minded. Fingers crossed we actually get to hear this soon.

Never heard of this chap prior to all the messages of good will and positive favour from this site...

Can anyone recommend something that people do find favourable, or at least, not offensive!

Yes, this. Especially the last 90 seconds.

This was the image Sam Smith shared on Instagram to his followers without any comment, but the message was very clear:

We'll see - but that could possibly be why Mendes was excited about this project.

I suppose you're right, sharpshooter.. Lest we forget that Bono and The Edge from U2 wrote Goldeneye while Tina Turner performed it. So it is possible the more than one big name artist can contribute to a Bond song.

Not sure if I believe it either, but I certainly hope that it turns out to be true.

Hmmm now that could be interesting. Not sure how I'd feel about another duet, though.

I'm not sure if they really will, but I'm hoping they release the song. Advance ticket sales have commenced and Trigger Mortis just came out. Good things come in threes, apparently.

Sounds like a ridiculous mash-up of all the title songs. Still the whole thing sounds so absurd it just might be true...

And if it's a big collaboration, Sam Smith wouldn't have spoiled the announcement by Instagramming his photo. There would be more to it.

Interesting. I like duets but only when both singers take turns singing. Two good singers singing together sometimes ends up sounding like a screaming contest!

If the Radiohead writing the theme song is also true then this could be a great song, and would be why Sam Mendes is so excited.

All we need now is for Roger Moore to rap during the instrumental break.

That is a line in Goldeneye.

And of course, during the trailer, we see James Bond's name written on a wall,

Look forward to hearing it.

And by look forward, I mean that it's my duty as a Bond fan to "look forward" to anything new and give it a chance. I really can't stand this guy and his voice and tone of songs.

Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of SPECTRE, said, “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”

That's a lot of praise.

The song is co-written by Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes (who worked on his debut album 'In the Lonely Hour')

There will also be an instrumental version released.

So much for those sources who said Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood were behind it all. ;)

It could be referring to that.

I'm sure we'll get a 'spectre' lyric drop somewhere in the song too.
