You Know My Name

Another Way to Die

Skyfall

Writing's on the Wall

Bond songs are more likely to have original titles these days.

Yeah unfortunately. Why not use the title Spectre? It wouldn't be that hard to use. The Writing's On The Wall is an okay title but Spectre would have been better. And I too immediately thought of Bond's name on the wall in the trailer when I learned the title of the song.

As for Sam Smith being the performer, I am totally underwhelmed and disappointed. I had barely heard of him before reading his name on this website as a potential candidate and had never knowingly heard any of his songs. Since I learned it was most likely going to be him, I listened to a couple of his songs (Stay With Me and I'm Not The Only One) and made it all the way through but was not impressed at all. He has some talent but he is definitely not my cup of tea. If EON was going down that road a much better option--and enjoyable listen--would have been Michael Buble. He's got some great stuff and is entertaining. Sam Smith, eh. I will give the song a try, but I am not expecting much. I don't think I've ever been this underwhelmed with the choice of a Bond singer.

I feel for ya, tdalton.

Well, looking forward to seeing a new Bond music video after not getting one for 'Skyfall', and interesting he markets it as an epic love song. That's a big theme to have in a Bond song to carry over into the film.

British electronic music duo Disclosure have just tweeted that they added some "additonal prodcution" to "Writing's on the Wall".

Me being a massive fan of Disclosure's music, this is only a good thing in my eyes

Clarification from the site that reported on the song being released today:
http://www.hitfix.co...ound-the-corner

And, yes, I did indeed report yesterday that the song would be available today. Obviously, it was the full details of the song that my sources heard about, not the song itself.

It also, obviously, refutes my report here yesterday. Here's the thing… it is precisely because of things like Smith spending months saying, "I'm not doing that song" that it is hard to know what to do with a studio denial of something.

In this case, Sony wouldn't confirm what they were doing this morning in conjunction with the ticket pre-sales, or even that there was going to be something released or announced. We reached out to them for comment, but the studio declined to make a comment. In that case, we went with a trusted source.

I see how the wires got tangled, but this is a mea culpa. I pulled the trigger on the story, and I was wrong. So while you have to wait 19 more days than I said you would, at least now we know what the song is and when we are actually going to hear it.

Just listened to his radio 1 interview, I'm a bit more pro him now he seems genuinely intent on making this timeless yet modern, which seems to be what the film is going for. As for the 20 minutes thing, he clearly wasn't being literal, he was just making a point that him and his co-writer knew immediately what they where going to do for the song because they'd wanted to do a Bond theme for a while. Hopefully we'll hear it soon.

It's going to be available for pre-order on ITunes from midnight so there may well be a sound clip of it then.

I really want to like him and I've listened to a few of his tracks on YouTube... I just find his voice, his songs, his music and every aspect of his persona intensely annoying.

I'd be surprised if we got anything else today. Think it was just the confirmation this morning, and then we'll have to wait for the online release in a few weeks' time. Maybe we'll get an iTunes preview snippet before then though.

Hopefully exposure to the song will be easy to avoid.

I prefer not to hear the song before seeing the film.

I feel that he's just a bit... uninspired for me really. I'm obviously holding off judgement until I actually hear the track but for me his entire personality is purely from reality tv. I mean, over here he was known as the winner of The X Factor. Good on him, but it's just... weird that it's him being chosen for a Bond song. Whatever, I'll roll with it but I really don't like his music.

I think with me the problem is actually over-exposure. On practically every - rare - occasion I switch my car radio from news program to one of the pop stations I got Stay With Me after a few minutes. I can appreciate a good soul tune, but most of what I heard from Smith - as far as I'm able to tell, I'm next to illiterate where current pop is concerned - did not a lot for me.

Well, we'll see how it plays...

Come to think of it...shouldn't there pop up the rumours about Smith taking over from Craig after he's done? Can't take that much longer now.

Well at least we can now put the Smith and Goulding duet rumors to bed..  One final thing I'll say on the choice of Sam Smith, before I can review the track when it comes out, I do have hopes for this. I was never an Adele fan until Skyfall came out and she just blew me away and now I have become a fan of hers. Whether the same will happen with Sam Smith I'm not sure but the key is to listen to how Bondian the piece is and imagining how it will fit together in context of the film and with Daniel Kleinman's brilliant title sequence... we shall see! :)

Pretty sure he wasn't an X Factor winner...he just performed as a guest star on the final once or something? But he never took part in the competition.

Smith never competed on the X Factor or any other talent show. I don't what you mean by "his entire personality is purely from reality tv." To me he comes off as a genuine, articulate and good humoured guy - he's not a Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber ego.

I'm not really that familiar with Smith's work, but I'll give him a chance. I was really holding out hope for Lana Del Rey though. I thought her vintage, 60s-ish style would've fit perfectly for a Bond film titled Spectre.

He says he wouldn't have wanted to do it if the song wasn't right for Bond.

That's encouraging, as is Babs & Sam Mendes signing off on it.

So, Sam Smith...

I admit I don't like his songs because they sound annoying to me. Some of them over-romanticized and kind of a downer like SKYFALL said before.

However they have the pop vibe that makes the charts and after seeing his interview on BBC stating that he'd only do it if it felt like a Bond song, and having Michael Wilson, Barbara and Sam's approval feels like assurance enough for me.

I had a similar fear with Adele before Skyfall, not that much, but anyway.

How great it would be if it made the Oscar run again?

Cheers, guys!
