I'll say, what I've been saying since the Brosnan Era:
As long as the song transitions me from the PTS to the body of the film and blends well with the credit sequence, then I'm fine with the choice.
I'm actually surprised they went outside of Sony Music for the title song.

It's going to be available for pre-order on ITunes from midnight so there may well be a sound clip of it then.
UK time?
I'm assuming so
I could be 100% wrong, but I think the official site's wording gives us a clue. It says the song will DEBUT and be available to purchase and stream on September 27th. That makes me think we might not get a sound clip prior.

Pre order for Sep 28 on iTunes- song runs 4:38. https://itun.es/gb/-Hf39
I hope that means that the whole song can fit into the titles sequence.
I don't like it when they edit the song, like they did with Skyfall and AWTD. And they missed out the entire first verse of Licence to Kill.

Yeah I want to be engulfed in rapture for as long as possible in the title sequence.

Reuters piece from today. Includes quotes I hadn't seen yet.
http://www.reuters.c...N11E31820150908
Relevant ones, to me:
"I wanted to inject as much me as I could into the song and then dress it in a Bond way," Smith said. "I sing love songs ... and that's what I wanted to do."
...
"It probably had something to do with it (his vocal chord problems) because ... the song is the highest song ever," he said. "It's so difficult for me to sing."
Sounds like we're in for some serious falsetto.

Hah, it depends if the song is good or not though. We may want it to be trimmed down.

At least the cut of AWTD cut out the horrible wailing and caterwauling section in the middle of the song..

Ha ha.
The other one that was cut was Tomorrow Never Dies. The best bits of this song are actually the instrumental sections which are not included in the film.

Jesus, that's gotta be high... In Latch he hit an Eb an octave above middle C (Eb5). For a reference point, the highest note in Skyfall is C the octave above middle C (C5), three semitones below.

I'm ignorant about vocals and singing. Are we talking about Bono singing Lemon levels here?

Indeed. Worrying.

No iTunes snippet. But in these days it´s impossible for something not to leak, right? Not that I´m encouraging anyone - but Smith´s camp will surely drum up business in the next days.
Concerning "the highest song"... I hope not too much falsetto since that is exactly what I do not like about Smith´s singing. It feels to me like an overused trick of his: when in doubt, do the falsetto.

Seems like a solid choice to me. In favour. Won't do a poll until song's officially released; any earlier would be pointless.
I hope the option "Sings better than Robert Mugabe" will be included.

That last quote does not sound good. I wasn't wild about Sam Smith after listening to two of his songs beforehand due in large part to his higher pitched warbling--and now he's going even higher? The stomach churns.

Good one sharpshooter.
I'm trying to remain somewhat optimistic, but this news does not inspire confidence. I'm almost dreading what it might sound like.

I reckon this choice has been made by EON for name value only, not his direct talent and range in singing. Having UK sensation 'Sam Smith' attached to sing your Bond theme immediately gives you so much social media and marketing exposure and free word of mouth.
I still think his style of singing is wrong for what we at the heart want from a Bond song.

Then again, this would have been said about a certain Mr. McCartney back then...
Not to mention Louis Armstrong, Lulu, Carly Simon, Duran-Duran, A-ha... The list is endless.
If we´re all looking for Bond films trying something else and new, maybe Smith is the ticket. His current fame can´t hurt either, of course.

Not one but two articles about the new Bond theme, and past themes, in The Guardian newspaper today. I must say I'm with Peter Bradshaw, the Guardian's film critic, on some of his choices and views of what makes a Bond theme. Also, I thought I was the only one out there who thought that Nobody Does It Better didn't quite work as a Bond theme, great song though it is; it turns out Peter Bradshaw agrees.
(And for some reason the link to the Bradshaw article keeps taking me to the other one - I'll add the link on another post in a moment)

How so? Sam Smith is not Jack White or Alicia Keys struggling to sing in unison.
