One more thing - we're assuming the artiste, whoever he/she/ is or they are is signed to Decca. But wasn't Chris Cornell signed to a different recording company from Sony when he recorded You Know My Name? (One reason perhaps thay YKMN wasn't on the soundtrack album?) Which may mean the theme artiste for SPECTRE might not be on Decca's list at all?
I suppose the question then would be 'why Decca and not Sony?'
The QOS soundtrack was released by J Records (not Sony) because that's Alicia Keys' record label.
CR and SF were on Sony Classical because the title tracks were not included, therefor the artist had no say.
I think this soundtrack on Decca Records is the most useful clue yet. I'd say the artist is certainly part of Universal Music.

I'm gonna say Smith.

Adele is signed to XL Recordings and Columbia Records, not Universal.
That's what I thought, but there she is listed amongst their artist.
Perhaps it's something to do with publishing.
EDIT: Yes, Universal Music Publishing handels Adele as a song writer.

Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga (both Decca) recorded at Abbey Road Studios somewhere around February this year. Lady Gaga posted a picture on Instagram showing her and Paul McCartney with a brass section and stated that the recording was for one of Paul's many secret projects. Here is the link: https://instagram.com/p/yqWGm_pFFR/
Well, if Macca is doing the theme, that would certainly top all the other similarities to LALD.
Yes, which suggests that it's Smith or Goulding.
I'm gonna say Smith.
Sam Smith says he's "definitely not" doing the theme song to "Spectre"
Take that for what it's worth.

A quick look at their music roster reveals that McCartney, Lady GaGa, and Ellie Goulding are all on it as is my choice - Jessie J.

We'd best not quote you on that... But agreed on Jessie J.I will throw myself off Blackfriar's bridge if it turns out to the Phil Collins, Jessie J, Macca or Smith

I agree with you PPK on Phil Collins too, if it turns out to be him I'll join you on Blackfriars's Bridge on Tuesday night, say about 8ish.

A duet with Sir Paul and Lady GaGa, perhaps?
Title could be, "One More Way To Cease Living."

Decay Records represents PAUL McCARTNEY.
oh god no. The man hasn't made a decent song in over 40 years.
He just had a #1 song this year. Just saying. He wasn't the singer though, but he doesn't have to be on this song either. If he's involved, and I'm not saying he is or likely is, he could just be writing it.

Smith and Goulding remain the likely candidates.

However, Thomas Newman has a working relationship with Decca Records, too. Interestingly, his score for Sam Mendes´"THE ROAD TO PERDITION" was released by Decca as well.
Maybe it´s just the score again that is on Decca Records - but without the song. Which would mean that the artist can come from any other label.

A Paul/GaGa duet would be tremendous. Dibs!
I guess if it were Gaga and Tony Bennett I wouldn't mind.

Or Newman has worked with the artist and incorporated the song heavily into the score, all of which is to be released by Decca (?)

I love Goulding. Some one here introduced me to the song LIGHTS and I was hooked.

It's the song that counts. More than the artist.

We already know what the "secret" Gaga/McCartney project was (some movie for kids).
Well, that's good to know.
I'm not that familiar with Sam Smith - I think Stay With Me is decent. While not my first choice, I wouldn't be too disappointed if he got the gig. It would come down to the melody.

That said, whether a Bond theme works is subjective. "Skyfall" worked for me, very well. Others didn't like it. "Nobody Does It Better" is lauded by many as a great Bond theme, some would say the greatest. But for me, whilst it is a fine song, it doesn't work as a Bond theme.
But I try to like the ones I have doubts about when they come out - I even played "Die Another Day" and "Another Way To Die" many times at the time of the film's release. Gave up when "You Know My Name" and "Skyfall" came along. :-)
In the end, for me, the test is; does it sound like a "Bond theme"? Which may sound safe and conservative, but in the end, I know what I like, and I was "brung up" on those classic 1960s John Barry Bond songs. Can't kick the habit, I guess! :-)

If they try to connect with the classics (GF/the SPECTRE films/LALD) - maybe (hopefully!!!) they will actually incorporate the song into the score. And if Newman has written or at least co-written the song...
Ah, the mind boggles.

Mendes was very excited about the song, so that's promising.

It just depends if we're getting Bassey Bondian or McCartney/Duran Duran Bondian. I'm guessing the latter after Adele's tune.

Based on this chap's ROUSING rendition of The Man With The Golden Gun, I think he should do the SPECTRE theme song!! LMAO!!
