Official announcement on the future of the Expanded Universe:

Given the need for creative freedom for Episode VII, this was probably inevitable. Thoughts?

I´m glad. Not because I did not like ideas of the EU - but because I want the new films to be independent from them. It would have been a mistake to film already existing stories. This would only have set them up for fans being disappointed because they imagined everything differently.
Of course, this will happen anyway...

Not surprising to me.
1. So much of it was written in the 90s without knowledge of what happened pre- Ep 4.
2. They had to come up with an original story for the new movie, which necessarily probably conflicts with what's been written in novels.

Not at all surprising. Personally, I don't care much as I never got into the Expanded Universe. Although, I do wonder if this makes Star Wars: The Force Unleashed non-canon. I wouldn't mind TFU2 to be non-canon as the story was non-sensical and stupid, but the original Force Unleashed directly impacts the original trilogy.

OH MY GOD!!! WOW...Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis joining the cast...they'll be great additions to the Star Wars universe..

I expect a supporting cast to be named soon......I believe these are the main cast so they would be main focus

I wonder if they cast Ian McDiarmid would they tell us about it... That is the biggest question I have, I would assume his ghost would appear but perhaps they may not even use ghosts. I suppose even if he was cast he would only be a supporting cast member and they may not even use him right away if they do for that matter.
I know of Andy Serkis, he is the motion capture guy from the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, also Rise/Dawn if the Planet of the Apes. Suppose it is a save guess he'll be a CGI character?....
Max von Sydow or rather Blofeld from NSNA. Interesting...

Ian McDiarmid interview from last month:
The million dollar question is will he be making a return in Star Wars episode VII despite being killed off previously?
“It was just great to play him. He was cast off into the cosmic universe so I’m not sure how he could come back. I think it’s unlikely. I have no reason to believe and if they did I’d play hard to get. I think Carrie and Mark and I dare say Harrison will be back as they’re still alive but I think there will be new villains. They start filming in London soon so we’ll find out then.”

I knew someone would beat me to posting this news!
So here is what I know
Domhnall Gleeson was Bill Weasley in Harry Potter (something I didn't know I had to look it up)
Max Von Sydow, I only know him from Minority Report
That's about all I know.

Great casting, as far as I can say it without knowing the script...
But I love the fact that Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are part of this. Who would have known when they were singing "Please Mr. Kennedy"...

I'm liking the casting as well. I don't know much about a lot of them, but that's a good thing. Much better than overpopulating the new film with all of the stars that we heard being mentioned in the rumor mill over and over again the past few months.

Well a wonderful start to the 'Episode VII' machine with the casting news. Lots of familiar faces and new ones, which is how it should be.
I can't wait to see how this develops. Hopefully we will have character names over the "May the 4th" weekend perhaps to get tongues wagging even more...?

Could 2015 finally be the shared year where we get a superb Bond and Star Wars movie? (not really been done since 1977 when we had Star Wars (Ep.IV) and The Spy Who Loved Me)..
Empire Strikes Back and For Your Eyes Only just missed each other by a year (1980 and 1981).. Return of The Jedi and Octopussy (and NSNA if you count it) in '83, 1999 we had The Phantom Menace and The World Is Not Enough (disappointing year for all the anticipation) and 2002 we had Attack of The Clones and Die Another Day..
Here's hoping for 2015!

It's strange to me getting Star Wars news before we hear anything about Bond 24, isn't it? Since it Bond 24 will be out before it....

that Daisy Ridley literally looks like she could be Natalie Portman's cousin, so i'm guessing she's a Skywalker grandkid.
It would be cool if they made a woman the central protagonist.

I'm still hoping for Hugo Weaving, I think he has Imperialist written all over him or perhaps that is why they didn't cast him.
