This is certainly welcome news. John William's is in his 80's I believe so its truly amazing to get him back for at least Episode VII.
I wonder what they will do with C3PO and R2D2. They just need Anthony Daniels (C3PO) voice but he is also getting old. Would they dare kill C3PO, one of the center pieces of the series or simply recast him when the time comes?....

So glad John Williams is returning - there needs to be everything familiar with 'Star Wars' now to remind people this will be the series we know and love, regardless of producers and companies behind it.

The next film will probably be the most difficult thing to pull off, even if John Williams manages to score the next trilogy.
After having seen Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in a video of the Star Wars convention in Germany last weekend, I must admit that I hope they will not be part of the next three films.
Both came across as extremely fed up with anything Star Wars-related. Especially Fisher did not mask her disgust that anybody could be interested in Star Wars.
Also, even if the years take a toll on everybody both looked just like fat slobs. There was nothing that even remotely suggested they could step back into their roles. If the films actually start shooting next year, both Hamill and Fisher would have to start training and dieting now big time.
But, really, better to start fresh, with new actors taking over.

I strongly agree with your points SAF - their involvement could tarnish images the fans hope for but will never get, an image that would be impossible to create given their current status.
Harrison Ford seems the only one active enough and with passion to continue his role as Han Solo, as he'd be a believable older Han. Seeing Hamill and Fisher once more after so long on screen would probably be hard to take as Luke and Leia.
It's a very tricky situation they will face how to progress these films now.

It'll be alright. I expect their characters will now be more along the lines of Eddie Byrne's character in Star Wars. The elder statespeople sort of thing. Leaving most of the action to the younger characters.

I thought Fisher just lost a bunch of weight??
I tend to agree though. Coming back to a role after so many years doesn't always work very well. Al Pacino in Godfather 3 just comes off completely different to me than in the 2 previous films for instance. I thought Harrison Ford still was Indy in the fourth film, but still people are going to go to Ep 7 and expect on some level to see the SAME characters, and they're not. People change. Those were young characters, played by young actors. Now they're old. Could turn into a disaster in my opinion.

I'm not worried about it. I'm sure they have done some testing and determined their worth and screen time already. Yes they are old but they wont be the lead actors I would think. Luke will be more like Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan training younger Jedi who will be the leads and center of the new trilogy. Same with Han and Leia. The question is will and who will they kill off. Will Luke die like Obi Wan, will they kill off Han like Harrison Ford wanted to during the original trilogy. The most important thing is they keep C3PO and R2D2 as over all center pieces in the series, which means they'll have to recast Anthony Daniels when the time comes but that shouldn't be a huge problem. Kind of exciting, I just hope they keep the original cast as long as they can because once their gone it will ultimately be a completely new series.

Marvel has the Star Wars Comic Book License back from Dark Horse starting in 2015. While I'm sorry to see Dark Horse go, lately all Star Wars seemed to be was a mini series event, but the new monthly series set between Episodes 4 & 5 is pretty good.Hopefully Marvel builds on the good: Making Dark Times a monthly series again, as it was set between Episodes 3 & 4. A comic book series set between Episodes 6 & 7 is a must but I wouldnt expect it until after Episode 7 is out in theaters.

I guess the original actress who portray Mon Mothma is too old to play her again....but Judi is probably just only a few year younger so it should be an actress in the 60s

According to Wikipedia, Judi Dench is less than two years younger than Caroline Blakiston, the actress who played Mon Mothma in ROTJ.

Caroline Blakiston's still active. She was in an episode of Father Brown on the BBC a couple of weeks ago.

I think the comments made about Carrie Fisher and her weight and Mark Hamill and his weight are really mean.
She doesn't have to come back in a slave bikini..
Posted 30 January 2014 - 06:06 AM
I apologize - but I did not intend these remarks to be mean. Did you see that video from last summer´s convention? Hamill was at least rather professional, but Fisher was so intent on letting everybody know how she hated being part of Star Wars. The disappointment in the audience was contained but later on... man, that got really ugly. And I´m sure that public scrutiny will be much more hurtful if these two do not get into shape for the film (which they will, I´m sure, actors are and have to be vain).
But my remarks really only hinted at the difference between their appearances in the original trilogy and now.
This is, after all, not the totally misguided and awkward "Love tips"-thread.

I keep thinking the Star Wars movie series should be left as it is not. The original trilogy is perfect, and ROTJ is a simply perfect conclusion to the saga. There's no need in another movie (or even trilogy), in my opinion.
If anything, I wouldn't mind a movie based on The Force Unleashed, or set in the gap between the two trilogies.
Posted 30 January 2014 - 04:24 PM
I was in that mindset, too, for a while.
But I gave up my traditionalist attitude when I delved into the joys of the expanded Star Wars universe. Now, I know that the original trilogy is only one part of it - and that there are lots of things to discover, also new tales that follow the original trilogy.

I hope we get some casting new of other character in the coming month and a brief plot synopsis
Posted 31 January 2014 - 07:43 PM
I haven't got into the expanded universe but still might.
I always imagined if there was a Episode VII Luke would die as did Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan however after reading some of the reasons that J.J. Abrams had for making script changes so that the original cast would be more front and center I'm not so sure.

I hope the rumors of the original cast coming back for Episode 7 is untrue. I really dont want the EU validated as official, it would be a big mistake IMO.

sorry but the rumours are true and they are the center of it...........there won't be any connection to EU at all....likely an origin story

Okay that's fair. If she hates being a part of star wars she shouldn't come back.

Interesting. Lots of people who've done series'es...
Watched THOR THE DARK WORLD and can't stop thinking about how that film is kind of like what I imagine Star Wars Episode VII will be like. In terms of pacing, character development and visual effects.
