In that picture he does look like a young Harrison Ford.

I expect we will be getting more casting news until the start of shooting in May
Posted 21 February 2014 - 07:36 PM
Exactly.. plus JJ Abrams is keeping everything under wraps so we will find out who is being cast but not role they are going to be playing.

Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, Ian McDiarmid, Warwick Davis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman are all onboard, allegedly.

I'm oddly unmoved about Episode 7 at the moment, but this is an exceptional cast.

If that is true, that's, as you say sharpshooter, an amazing cast.
BUT...not sure about Ian McDiarmid....I mean, unless it's holo-recordings of the Emperor, I'd hate to see some re-has of the character that would have been dead for over 30 years. But he's a fine actor of course, it's either way for me, not too sure.

where is Peter Mayhew aka Chewie For sure you can't have him not in the cast......it going to be few months later until we know some true casting news beside the big 3 (Hamill, Ford, Fisher)

And Kenny Baker!
Posted 27 February 2014 - 04:01 PM
I don't know about Chewbacca, but R2-D2's definitely in it. So, I should think Kenny Baker will be, too.
Posted 27 February 2014 - 09:53 PM
I wonder what roles Warwick Davis will be playing... If he is playing Wicket W. Warrick then its a good guess there returning to Endor.
The thing with Kenny Baker is he is not really needed IMO. I would guess they'll use Kenny as long as he is healthy and then R2 will become if not already mostly Remote control and CGI
Chewbacca is to much a main character not to have. He'll be there or at least Solo will explain what happened to him.

The only thing I don't really want them to do, is all the stuff from the Prequel Trilogy pretty much ended with 'A New Hope' - where a few characters remained, but we had lots of new characters, planets, beings...everything.
'Episode VII' is going to be about 50-55 years after 'Revenge Of The Sith' if they do it in real time years passing after 'Return Of The Jedi'.
I really hope they don't drag up characters, ideas and plots used from a story arc set 50 years ago to use in 'Episode VII' in order to keep new fans from the Prequel/Clone Wars era. This saga is more than just the marketing and merchandise blitz of the Prequel Trilogy and so I hope they leave little if not all of the PT away from this new era now.

I'm really rather partial to the Star Wars films. In someways equally to my love of Bond. The only difference is that my love for Star Wars has calmed down a bit over the last few years - whereas my love of Bond just gets stronger.
For me it is all about the original trilogy. A New Hope is simply amazing and The Empire Strikes Back is easily in my top three of all time favourite films (or would be if I had one). Whilst Return Of The Jedi isn't as great as the previous ones - it is still a satisfying end to that era of the saga - and is still better than most of the blockbuster dreck that comes out nowadays.
However - the prequel trilogy - I hate it. The Phantom Menace is just a mess. Attack Of The Clones is simply one of the worst films I have ever seen in my entire life and Revenge Of The Sith only really gets interesting in the final ten minutes. I consider those to be very bad films.
Despite that - I am still excited about the upcoming Episode VII - I like the idea of Hamill, Ford and Fisher coming back. I like JJ Abrams and I think Disney are a pretty good fit to re-introduce this franchise to a new generation. Rather than filling in the gaps of the past - I really like that it's going into an uncharted future. I'm very well aware that I'm not the audience it's going for now and my children are. So as long as my kids are happy with it I'm fine. When I take them to see it - it's about THEM - not me.
I'm just glad that Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia are going to be there to wink at the old farts in the audience like me!

I was introduced to the first STAR WARS (or as they call it now: the fourth one) shortly after Bond (TSWLM) and I was totally hooked. I adored the movie, became a huge Sci-Fi (or as I know now: Space Opera)-fan, and I loved THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and couldn´t wait to see RETURN OF THE JEDI - although after seeing it I was slightly underwhelmed and disappointed. Still, the trilogy was a basic foundation of my movie love in general.
Then I grew up, definitely tried to be more sophisticated, went for art house films, got educated on a lot of - um, serious films about everyday problems. The STAR WARS trilogy was in my past, a nostalgic pleasure. And there was no other SW-film in sight.
And then the prequels happened. Of course, as everybody, I was totally hooked by the trailer for THE PHANTOM MENACE and let down by the actual film. Nevertheless I was "mature" enough to re-live the nostalgia and fun, therefore I looked forward to ATTACK OF THE CLONES which I liked much better. When REVENGE OF THE SITH came along I was torn between feeling again not really happy with the film and sad that STAR WARS was definitely over now.
The CLONE WARS I actually ignored for a long time, just as I never sat foot into the expanded universe. Until last year when I gave both a chance and... actually could enjoy some of it very much.
The announcement of new films got me excited and worried - probably like every other fan on this planet.
I like J.J. Abrams and consider him a great choice for this material. And I welcome the original cast back in their roles.
But...
What story will they tell? Of course, it is reasonable that the end of RETURN OF THE JEDI was not really the end of the Empire. C´mon, the bad guys took a big hit, but someone will rise again and do damage.
Of course, time has passed since then (and it shows, looking at the original actors). So we are looking at a story in which the new conflict will already be going on for years.
I am very worried about Han Solo having children with Leia, I must say (like in the expanded universe). Han Solo is not a caring husband or a good father, he is a pirate, dammit, selfish and rough around the edges. So if he actually has children with Leia, I would have him run away from them, being the absent dad, creating tension with Leia who hates him for not staying around.
Luke, of course, is the easy role to develop. He is basically Ben Kenobi now, the wise one, taking over the fatherly uncle-position and guiding the children towards any Jedi-ness they might have inherited from her mother (who by the way could have turned towards the force big time as well - which could also create tension with Han).
I guess the important thing is to get the basic dynamic between these three going again.
Yep, I had a very slow afternoon today, with a lot of time on my hands

Peter Mayhem had double knee replacement last year. I 'm not sure he'd be up for it. It seems like I heard something about that.

interesting......I not surprise that she getting a lot of attention after all she is the recent best supporting actress! I just can't figure what kind of role would she be playing

My feeling would be something having to do with the Jedi Academy.

well that good news knowing the filming date but how about cast and character, some info on plot synopsis too
Posted 02 April 2014 - 10:46 PM
They have plenty of time to release that kind of stuff. We're still roughly 20 months away from this film. We usually don't find out much about the Bond films until the beginning of the year that they're being released in, and even then it still feels like we know too much about the film far too long in advance.

Apart from naming the cast I would welcome Abrams not sharing anything else. No synopsis, no pics from the set, nothing. And frankly, if there´s one film that does not need to be pre-sold by that kind of publicity - then it´s a new STAR WARS.

I expect that is the best approach to keep everything hush hush so fans would have to wait patiently until teaser.......I would think we should at least get a press release/conference of cast of character soon

Actually, we're shooting some of it now

now I hope we get to see Lando, Admiral Ackbar as well.......these supporting character are just as important to the original main cast......did they confirm C 3PO too?

Haven't heard anything about whether C-3PO is in it, but how can you have R2 and no 3-PO?? I'd expect Anthony Daniels will be reprising his role..
Posted 07 April 2014 - 09:51 PM
Of course they'll all return. I'm not really worried at all. I think it's in good hands. I wasn't a huge fan of Into Darkness however if JJ Abrams can do that with a Star Wars film I think we're ok.
