Oh dear...Sounds just like The Phantom Menace and we all know what kind of a film that title spawned..
how about instead...Star Wars Episode VII: A New Hope That The Empire Will Strike Back And The Jedi Will Return To Deal With A Phantom Menace And An Attack of The Clones To Stop The Sith From Having Their Revenge.

Sound boring IMO. I wonder if that was the title George Lucas gave it in his outlines...

No doubt this will change for sure, but it makes me worried that it seems they are going backwards for a plot device, being "ancient", but hopefully nothing linked to the prequels or anyone in them.
FAR too early for this anyway, but exciting prospects...!

After having had a day or so to digest "The Ancient Fear", I'm actually starting to come around to liking it as well.. and from the clues as to just how badass Max von Sydow's villain will be, I can actually see this title fitting quite well. I wonder if von Sydow will be something akin to Christopher Lee's Count Dooku or more along the lines of Ian McDiramond's Emperor Palpatine?

The cast has been announced; and I have mixed feelings. But here's whats hacked me off: Where's Billy Dee Williams?!
If you haven't seen John Boyega act, he's on 24: Live Another Day. The rest of the newcomer's I can't say anything on just yet. But I hope we get character names for everyone at least by the end of the year. Max Von Sydow should be a good villain. Also since Disney axed the EU (YEEESSSS!!!) I wouldn't be surprised if some characters are named old EU characters. (Jacen and Jaina Solo perhaps?) Most of what I think however is negative but I won't rehash an old post. Hopefully this will be good, but right now Im kind of feeling meh.

Things seem to be picking up pace around the Star Wars sets in the Abu Dhabi desert, with shooting expected to start on Tuesday and last until at least the end of the month.
Curious day-trippers are likely to be disappointed, however, as our sources report that police and army are checking all vehicles in the area and making sure that anyone who isn’t supposed to be there is sent quickly on their way.
Our sources also report that the sets are getting closer to completion, with a “whole world” having been built on an otherworldly salt lake at one location, a “shuttle-like” spacecraft, a large tower, a “big, centuries-old-looking market”, something the crew are reportedly referring to as the “alien house” and 10 to 15 “really fast buggies” powered by jet engines (landspeeders of Tatooine fame from the previous films, perhaps?)
We have also been told that two lorries of explosives have been brought to one of the sites under high security and that a blast crater has been created. So, it looks like the action in Abu Dhabi could be set to feature a major battle or spacecraft crash of some description.
We also learnt that a group of technicians from the United Kingdom and Los Angeles are currently on site applying the finishing touches before the shoot begins and that some, unnamed, members of the cast are already here and have been out in the dunes practising driving the vehicles they’ll be using when filming begins.
With some of the crew already here (a source told us they checked into an Abu Dhabi hotel on Tuesday) and the main shoot expected to last until at least the end of the month (almost three weeks – and possibly longer depending on hitches such as sandstorms delaying shooting), it certainly looks as if Abu Dhabi is set to play a major role in the new movie. Disney’s chairman Alan Horn’s recent remarks that “We did some second-unit work in Abu Dhabi” may have been a slight understatement.
Star Wars: Episode VII, which is rumoured to have the working title The Ancient Fear, stars famous names – old and new – with the lead trio from the original Star Warstrilogy, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hammill lining up alongside newcomers to the franchise such as Adam Driver and Max von Sydow, rumoured to be playing the new film’s lead villains. The film is due in cinemas in December 2015.

Star Wars 7: Wedge Antilles actor declines 'boring' return
By Hugh Armitage
Tuesday, May 13 2014, 11:05 BST
Star Wars actor Denis Lawson has revealed that he turned down an appearance in Episode VII.
The actor - who played X-Wing fighter pilot Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy - declined an offer to reprise his role in JJ brams's hotly anticipated sequel.
"I'm not going to do that," Lawson told The Courier. "They asked me but it just would have bored me."
Lawson - who is uncle to prequel trilogy star Ewan McGregor - has previously said he would only be interested in a role that was larger than his original appearances.
The actor's career has mainly focused on television, including stints on Holby City and Parade's End.
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker are confirmed to be returning to Disney's sci-fi franchise, along with several newcomers including Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Andy Serkis.
Star Wars: Episode VII will open worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta Onboard for Star Wars Stand-Alone Film
May 22, 2014
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. Gareth Edwards will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.
Gareth Edwards blazed into the filmmaking forefront with his acclaimed work on Monsters, a film he wrote, directed and served on as cinematographer and visual effects artist. The skill and vision readily apparent in Monsters earned him the high-profile spot directing this year's smash hit Godzilla.
"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life -- join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards.
Gary Whittas screenwriting credits include 2010's The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. He is also well known as a journalist and editor in the video game industry, as well as part of the BAFTA award-winning team on Telltale Games adaptation of The Walking Dead.
Whitta states, "From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, Star Wars has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me,so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth, is literally a dream come true. I'm still pinching myself."

Interesting. It would be the film between VII and VIII. So it has to have momentum to move things forward. I could imagine a "Han Solo"-prequel would fit in there - but I guess for that they will get a bigger gun.
The rumored "Boba Fett"-film? Don´t think so. And I actually never understood the fascination with that minor character (maybe because I was very angry with such a bottom feeder, responsible for Han Solo´s fate...).
So my guess is: this will be either the "Yoda"-film (another puppet-heavy film for Edwards) or a Rebel Alliance-film.
Either way, I´m looking forward to more "Star Wars".

I pray we don't get a Yoda spin-off. I don't want another CGI heavy film based on a CGI creation that will divide opinions straight up.
Keep it as real as possible. Pleaaaaase.

if it between episode 7 and episode 8 I don't think Yoda or Fett would make sense.....Like to see how the rebel is formed and the fight against the empire

I couldn't tell if that creature that walked by JJ was CGI or a puppet, I just assumed CGI...
Perhaps Gareth Edwards is doing a Exogorth (huge space slug from Ep.V) film...
I was reading an interesting rumor that they might do a stand alone Han Solo film but with Harrison Ford but who knows.
