Episode VII could be in trouble due to Ford's broken leg. Apparently emergency meetings have been going on to discuss whether to push the release date or re-write Han Solo's part (and he's supposed to be the lead character).

Wow that's a little scary.. I guess I could care less what happens. If they choose to keep him, great. If they move on without him, great.

honestly if they pushed it back it could be interesting. i think it could open in january or february and be the first blockbuster of that month period. i mean they've moved summer movies up to the first week of April now, so what's the difference.

It will never open in January.  It will be pushed back to Memorial Day, and PR will say: hey, it´s the traditional Star Wars slot!

Disney, of course, will not be amused since they based their income for 2015 on the SW tentpole.

The interesting question is: how will this affect the release date of the spin-offs?

I thought it was confirmed that Ford would miss 8 weeks only. Not sure how true this is. All the same it's a tough blow to a production that is facing such surreal expectations.

If this is true, and that's a bit if until this is reported by some of the more reputable outlets, then Disney really only has one option, and that's to wait until Memorial Day 2016.  The film is only a year and a half away now, and filming has already begun, so completely rewriting the script during filming with just over a year to go until the release date would put the entire Star Wars launch in jeopardy.  A bad first movie, which would be the most likely outcome if they are writing the script as they film, could hurt the subsequent films.  The best bet is to wait another 5-6 months and go with the film as it was originally intended to be.

Imagine if they delay the entire movie just so that Ford is ready, and he still delivers a drowsy, phoned-in performance.

I think that would still be better than having to do a complete re-write of the script while they're filming the movie.

'Star Wars' Star Carrie Fisher's Daughter Billie 'To Play Young Leia' In New Film

http://www.huffingto...K Entertainment

Looks like 'Star Wars' actress Carrie Fisher will be keeping it in the family, with her daughter Billie recruited to play young Princess Leia in the new film.

The Sun reports that Billie Lourd will feature in flashback scenes in 'Star Wars VII' and yes, she will have her hair in those famous plait buns that made her mother a sci-fi legend.

The first trilogy of Star Wars films saw Princess Leia drawn to Luke Skywalker before they realised they were brother and sister, and she embarked on a romance with pilot Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford.

Okay so about the whole Harrison Ford thing, what they could do is kill him off right away in the movie? That way the movie is released on time and it's what Ford would have wanted for Han Solo plus Solo could become the martyr of the trilogy?

From the way it sounds, that would require a major rewrite of the script, which would then in turn probably delay the film.  Although the sources could be wrong, a lot of them seem to think that Ford is the film's main characters.

It would be extremely disappointing to have the most popular character be written out of this - and I don´t think they will do it.  To postpone the opening would be a problem for Disney´s financial plans - but a problem that can be solved.  They´d rather have a successful STAR WARS film to re-energize their investment than a movie that just limps to the finish line and throws everything in jeopardy.

They'd be foolish to write Harrison Ford out of the film.  Disney has a lot riding on this film, as they need a good, smooth launch of their turn at the helm of Star Wars, and doing major rewrites while filming in order to meet a release date would put the quality of the film in serious jeopardy.  If the release date can't be met with Ford's current recovery timetable, then they need to delay the film until Summer 2016 to give Ford time to heal and return to the set.

Maybe it will be at the beginning of the film, closing the gap between Episode III and IV, giving vital information for what´s at the heart of the plot of Episode VII...

Well there were dreams in the prequel trilogy so that process of changing the films has already began. If they change anything please be the term 'younglings.'

Okay well it was just a thought. I mean yeah I really love Han Solo as a character too, but that would be cool if he became a martyr of the series.

Well, it has been rumoured that...

Spoiler

Temuera Morrison to star in new Star Wars.

Temuera Morrison will once again play Darth Vader's villainous bounty hunter Boba Fett.

BRITTANY MANN

03/07/2014

Temuera Morrison is striking back.

The New Zealand actor is to reprise his role as Darth Vader's villainous bounty hunter Boba Fett in an upcoming Star Wars spinoff, Inquistr reported.

Though Morrison's role in it has not been officially confirmed, the as-yet-untitled film is set for release in 2016.

It will follow Star Wars: Episode VII the first film in the new sequel trilogy, which began production in April and is set for release in December 2015.

The trilogy will be the third in the Star Wars franchise, and will follow 1983's Return of the Jedi in the saga's chronology.

Morrison is a regular on the Star Wars set. He voiced Boba Fett in the DVD special edition of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in 2004, replacing Jason Wingreen from in the original 1980 cut.

Morrison also played Jango Fett, Boba Fett's 'father' from whom he was cloned in Attack of the Clones in 2002, and Commander Cody in Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

It would make sense to have Solo be killed at the end.  A tough cliffhanger (topping "Empire"´s), Kasdan had suggested it for "Return", Ford is fed up with the role (probably now more than ever...).  And it would give the next episode a good drive to find the killer etc.

Still, I would be sad to see Solo go.

i've been thinking it's probabable he'll die. Well really there's a lot of death in the Star Wars films anyway.

as for Morrison, i have no problem with him coming back, although it kind of depends on the time frame as far as his age.

If any of the original trilogy characters die you'll have riots in movie theaters IMO.

I hope the movie doesn't get pushed back. You can film around Ford, or use a stand in for walking/running scenes.

Why don't they just write his broken leg into the film, the same way they wrote Hamill's busted face into ESB? Have Han kneecapped by a wampa in the first scene, and he's on laser-crutches for the rest of the film.

They're filming woodland scenes in the Forest of Dean today. No information on what the setting's supposed to be, though. Chewbacca's home planet of Kashyyyk, perhaps? Or Endor...

Ford Injury to Halt 'Star Wars' for 2 Weeks

Harrison Ford's injury will cause production on "Star Wars: Episode VII" to be suspended for two weeks.

Disney announced Sunday that shooting would be halted for two weeks in August to adjust the production schedule following Ford's injury. The 71-year-old broke his leg in June during filming of the much-anticipated sequel at Pinewood Studios outside of London.

Disney had said earlier that Ford's injury wouldn't cause any delays. The studio said Sunday that "Episode VII" is still "on track" to wrap in the fall and be released in December 2015.

The accident involved a spacecraft door on the Millennium Falcon falling on Ford's leg. His recuperation was expected to take up to two months.

Star Wars sequel: Young unknowns cast in open auditions

Two young unknown actors have been cast in the next Star Wars film following open auditions.

British actor Pip Andersen and US-born Crystal Clarke, who is studying in Glasgow, were chosen from 37,000 hopefuls who attended casting calls held in 11 cities across the UK and US.

A further 30,000 others applied online for the parts, which are lead roles.

Little known actors have won parts in past Star Wars films through the traditional casting process.

It dates right back to the first Star Wars film in 1977 when the then unknown Mark Hamill secured the starring role as Luke Skywalker.

He went on to appear in the next two Star Wars films and will also feature in the forthcoming Episode VII.

Film producer Kathleen Kennedy said: "The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII, we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition".

Ms Kennedy, who is also president of Lucasfilm, the production company behind the science fiction series, added: "We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film."

Crystal Clarke is also due to appear in her first feature film next year, while Pip Andersen is a professional free-runner and recently appeared in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.

Other movies have successfully cast secondary actors and actresses through such open auditions - most notably some of the later Harry Potter films.

The open auditions for a "major Hollywood Movie" were first published at the end of last year on the twitter account @UKopencall, which announced a "nationwide search for lead roles for a Disney movie".

Disney bought Lucasfilm in October 2012.

Meanwhile, principal photography is under way at Pinewood Studios after filming on location in Abu Dhabi was wrapped in May.

The team is to take a two-week break in August due to production delays after actor Harrison Ford, who starred as Han Solo in the original three Star Wars films, injured his leg during filming.

Star Wars: Episode VII , directed by JJ Abrams, is scheduled for a Christmas release in 2015.

Sounds promising knowing how die-hard Smith is about the original SW films.

That was one of the reasons I disliked having the original cast back. Not wild about anything I've heard about the rumored plot so far either. I hope I'm proven wrong but if Han (or Luke, Leia, Lando & Chewbacca) ends up dying: I'm raising hell.
