it's difficult to imagine how they'd have a trailer out already with filming just concluded. I mean there'd be no effects in it. I would think the spring time in front of Avengers 2 would make more sense.

That's the point of a teaser. It's probably 60 to 80 seconds at best, that was probably put together and edited and worked on effects wise over the course of post-productions. By spring, there will most likely be another trailer, and attached to Avengers: Age Of Ultron for sure.

Via their Twitter stream, Regal Cinemas has just revealed the nine (!?!?!?!?) theaters which will premiere the teaser for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS this Friday November 28.

While this is good news, we need to remember that this is just a teaser trailer. So I'm not expecting a whole lot. Sadly there are no theaters showing it anywhere near me so most likely I'll do what we did with the first Skyfall trailers..wait until someone posts a grainy, cell phone bootlegged copy on Youtube! LOL :P

Rumors are it will just be a few characters stepping into the lighting but apparently the villein is shown. I was trying find the Phantom Menace teaser for fun but can't seem to find it... I'll be doing the same, hoping it gets released on youtube.

Well it would appear that this is your villain, folks. Also happened to find a leaked description of the trailer for the film. Interesting, I must say. Especially the closing seconds.

Also, the rumored plot of the upcoming 2016 spin-off Star Wars film.

I am waiting for a full trailer before I pass too much judgement.

Very menacing. I'm not sure what to make of it. He presumably looks pretty bas a**. The light saber is cool to but his helmet isn't as intimidating as Darth Maul IMO. Although it isn't the best pic.

So the teaser trailer is set to premiere at nine theaters in the U.S. in front of every film showing there is starting tomorrow, Friday, and lasting up till Sunday. Initially I thought of this as a sort of a gimmick, but it's not bad. One of the theaters is actually pretty close to me in fact, though I don't think I'll be seeing anything this weekend, and I haven't seen film Thanksgiving weekend since 2006, and that was Casino Royale (my second time, in fact!). This, providing the teaser is very good, would generate lots of buzz among Star Wars fans and film fans period before it's put out in front of The Hobbit (Which they confirmed: Limited in November, Wide in December) and before it's eventually on the internet.

It now seems that they're also going to put the trailer up on iTunes to download tomorrow as well which leads me to ask this. Why even bother putting it out in nine, select theaters across the nation in the first place if you're going to put it up on the internet to download? Of course for some people, they'll still drive to one of these theater (provided they're close to them) pay $10.00 or so and wait for the trailer, but why when It's on the internet now and is eventually ending up on YouTube? Why wait until The Hobbit to release the trailer which is in December. It doesn't make sense as this seems backwards to me. Once you put it on the internet, everyone is bound to watch it, instead of sitting in a selected theater for it.

Just my two cents. I don't understand the nature of this at all.

This could be so good in only 88 seconds.

'The Dark Knight' smashed it with a teaser only about 53secs, so this could just be as powerful, spine-tingly and exciting...!

Oh come on...where is it....!!

They were absolutely hammering home the practical sets and effects with this trailer. Everything feels real. That shot of those X Wings!

They actually looked quite menacing too..

Wow! Great stuff. The X wings look amazing flying over the water and the Falcon scene looked wicked. Not Crazy about the villains voice. Why no Episode VII in the title?

The close up of the X-Wing pilot (I'm assuming it's Oscar Isaac) in the cockpit is practical. The shot of the X-Wings flying however is CGI. It looks pretty obvious. Other than that, It pretty much matched the trailer description I read on another forum, and for a teaser it really does a good job. It shows us some of the new characters as well as small glimpse of the villain. I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, as I find myself more of a Trek guy, but so far I'm impressed. Thankfully there isn't the usual Abrams lens flare involved (as far as I know), but for a teaser, it was very well done. It's bound to get some great reactions in theaters that's for sure.

Now before this comes up for discussion, I'd like to point out the lightsaber. Everyone I know has been trashing it's look, but I quite like it. It's got this old fashioned, evil look to it, with the medieval claymore design. However. That hand guard is not a small lightsaber. At least I believe it isn't, unless the main villain intends of accidentally hurting himself haha. What I'd like to point out is that if you actually watch that point in the trailer again, you'll see how the overall lightsaber blade comes out and stays completely solid, whereas the other two sort of eject and fluctuate. Almost like exhaust. Those two side ports are basically functioning like vector nozzle, like on a fighter jet. It's excess energy from inside being ejected to prevent instability.

I wouldn't be surprised, though the voice is what is tricky. Either he changed his voice to sound like that or it's post-production audio trickery. Maybe it's Andy Serkis. Who knows. I'm very intrigued by this villain. This villain certainly has the same or close to the same height and shape that Driver has has, so maybe it is him. Someone told me they think it's Luke but I just don't see it.

Why no Episode VII in the title?

There really hasn't been explanation to this from Abrams or Disney. I guess the opening titles will have "EPISODE VII" in there, but I guess it's just too much to put in the overall title as a whole. I think it's the smart way to go, keeps the roman numeral continuity going. They're going to have to do something because I'm sure the spin off films are going to have "STAR WARS" and a subtitle, and that could possible confuse people into thinking it's Episode VIII since Episode VII isn't in the trailer and such.

pretty sure X-Wings aren't real

The cockpit camera shot is. The rest is CGI, unless they managed to get three full replicas in front of a green screen on a backlot lol.

It could be Cumberbatch, that's one rumor that won't go away. But I wouldn't bet against Driver being the one in the suit.

All in all, I'm excited to finally have new Star Wars footage and at that, new footage that is far more old Star Wars than new. It greatly recalls the original film with it's settings and junky/tarnished technology. Definitely love the lack of polished-CGI (I'm looking at you Jurassic World). Also, Daisy Ridley looks very Leia-ish. I was thinking that the lack of familiar faces was hurting the trailer....until the Millenium Falcon shows up. I'm psyched now.

Recall that the original 3 films were all titled this way. The episodes were added after The Empire Strikes Back originally released, I believe. I won't lose sleep over it if 'Episode VII' does not even appear in the main crawl.

It looks OK, based on what we've seen.    I do greatly appreciate that they're going for more practical effects over just using CGI at every turn.  The storm-trooper bit was probably the best part of the trailer, IMO.

Very surprised not to see any lense flare in the trailer.  There's still plenty of time left, however, to fit it into the finished product.

i don't see any more practicial effects the last 3. In fact the Falcon looks too skinny to me.

CGI is the newest thing "wrong" with the prequels but there were tons of sets and miniatures used for them.
