I will add to my Top 10 list as honorable mentions: X2: X-Men United (2003), Punisher: War Zone (2008) and Batman (1966). I know it's cheesy, but I still love it.

Could it be 20th Century Fox's answer to The Avengers?

'First Class' is a great film - thoughtful and clever and a very brave move. It worked, and I hope 'Days Of Future Past' expands on this and what made it great, but stand-out from other generic comic-book films. The cast does look superb and I hope they make it all run smoothly and make sense, but I have faith.

Still think the Richard Donner SUPERMAN movie is the champ.

I wonder if super hero movies will eventually fizzle out, like say musicals or westerns.

Okay to clarify do you mean the film that the above poster was talking about or the actual superhero?

I've never been a real Superman fan either. I never seen the Christopher Reads films, they just look kind of out dated and boring. I just watched Superman Returns recently and I thought it was kind of corny watching him fly around two armed and then one armed. The one thing I do really like about Superman is John Williams score and hope it makes it to the new film.

Christopher Read?! Christopher Reeve you mean!  :P

Well I understand your view for not taking to the film, the first one it itself very long and takes its time to unfold the story and character origins and if you're not hooked, it'd be hard to enjoy.

I just hope 'Man Of Steel' encompasses the original flare and excitement with the modern realism and drama that Nolan can inject in films. It's Superman's last chance on the big screen I think, for a good few years anyway.

The problem is, Superman never has had the might of decent films behind him like Batman has. The first 'Superman: The Movie' was pretty exceptional, really trying to bring a comic book hero to life in the modern world, and 'Superman II' was ok too, enjoyable and fantastical.

However, the thrid and fourth films lost the charm and honesty of the original, and 'Superman Returns' failed to re-ignite the appeal of what Superman could be on the big screen, playing out more of a homage/fan boy film rather than a further adventure. So for nearly 30 years, he's been let down with films and had only TV shows, comics and games to keep his name up amongst other, more recent superheroes. He lost his crown sadly due to the might of film-making.

This is where I feel 'Man Of Steel' is the big chance to show audiences just how important and relevant Superman can be in todays world, and also as a superhero star in a big blockbuster movie, not trying to homage the older films, but try forge a new future for the character (as Nolan did with his Dark Knight).

Fingers crossed for a return that really shows people what he's made of. And not steel. :)
