I think the first Spider-Man was the best. The second one was good, but it got kind of depressing. Plus him losing his powers just because he didn't like being Spidey made no sense. Dunst was cute, but definitely not the super model of the comics. Maguire's Peter got old too. Peter was a nerd in high school, but then he became cool later. How could he not with bulging muscles and no more need for the glasses?

these last two it's like they want to rush through the material so fast. It's too bad there's not someone there steering the Spider-Man films like Bond is where it goes on even when the actor change's and they don't reboot it.

Yeah I mean I think the Amazing Spiderman movies are very well cast but I also think they are rushing through the source material without really caring about the fans of the hero.

Rushing? Please, they've spent pretty much two films telling the same story everyone knows. We all know Peter's story and his parents' story, rebooting and telling the same thing over again was a death wish. Throwing in some Oscorp conspiracy linked to his parents' death was ridiculous. With Sony losing money left and right, they might as well give the rights back to Marvel/Disney -- at least they'll try and do something out of the box.

I guess that's your opinion but to me the Amazing Spiderman has to tell the origin story of Peter Parker.. I mean Christopher Nolan had Bruce's parents killed in Batman Begins should he not have done that because everyone knows who Batman is? You may think you know everything about Spiderman but if you're going to reboot a superhero franchise, an origin is necessary. Also the Amazing Spiderman 2 did rush through everything. I liked how in the Spiderman/Tobey McGuire movies that Harry Osborne was around and it was slowly building to the Green Goblin villain but it wasn't thrown into it unlike Dane DeHane.. to me that's rushing into material.

Batman Begins was the first Batman film in eight years, from when Joel Schumacher nearly killed the franchise. Tim Burton's Batman film wasn't an origin film at all, though while it was revealed that it was the Joker who killed his parents, Bruce Wayne's origins have never properly been told. So with Warner Bros. and Nolan focusing on a new Batman franchise, yes, actually telling it is necessary.

The Amazing Spider-Man was only out four-five years after the third film of the original trilogy and was still, relatively fresh in some people's minds. Sony made the mistake of retelling the origin again. That's what Raimi's first film was essentially (until we meet the Green Goblin), and in Webb's film it's taking up nearly the entire film in stead of moving. It's taking something that's small and expanding it to great lengths and being bloated. Further exploring it in the second film wasn't necessary as it was eventually dropped in favor of the many other sub-plots.

I'm not saying The Amazing Spider-Man didn't rush through anything, because it did. It went full Spider-Man 3 basically. While I didn't like Raimi's third Spider-Man film, his first two films did do a great job of building everything up nicely and shaping it all up. This new franchise is now relying on the upcoming Sinister Six film to eventually decide the fate of whether or to actively pursue a third and possible fourth Spider-Man film.

I think there is a lot of potential with Spider Man. I love that it takes place in New York City. The city itself is really appealing and I love that Peter Parker is this nerdy, geeky but incredibly smart superhero. He wasn't designed to be some hunk and bulky guy but just an ordinary kid. I loved that Tobey McGuire portrayed him that way!

Tobey totally got the role right in SM1. In 2 and 3? Not so much. And, to be quite honest - Garfield hasn't done the role justice yet either. You have to get both parts of the persona correct: Peter (which Tobey excelled at) and Spidey (Garfield is better here). In the first movie, both personas gelled beautifully... but haven't since.

It's like Batman - we haven't had a complete performance yet! Michael Keaton wasn't a great Bruce Wayne, but was the best at playing Batman, imho. Christian Bale was disappointing as the Dark Knight, but made an excellent Bruce Wayne.

I disagree.  I think Garfield was in every respect the better Spider-Man and excelled in the role.  No recasting necessary.

But Sony ruined it by slobbering over the idea of "building a universe" and immediately getting cold feet with "Spider-Man" when the beancounters said: what, only 700 million world wide?

Greedy bastards.

It´s time that Marvel buys Spider-Man back.  And then, no origin story please - just a really good movie.

I do agree that Garfield played Spidey right with the cockiness and swagger... but Peter doesn't need that. "Mild mannered" photographers don't have swagger!

I agree.. Sony is being SUPER greedy and it's really annoying.. especially for the fans who deserve a good spiderman movie.

I do really like Garfield and how he portrays Spiderman with all the humor. That was one thing I liked about the Amazing Spiderman 2!

I like the Leto as Joker casting, but Will Smith as Deadshot?  He just doesn't strike me as a good fit for that character, or for the project in general, to be honest.  Still, he'll lend star power to the project, which will be a plus.

DC has an exciting set of films coming up. Batman v Superman is a big event, obviously. And Suicide Squad has me just as excited. I mean, Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor and perhaps a cameo from Batman ala the Assault on Arkham animated movie. Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot, which will follow, also has my attention. I wish them all the best, and I hope the potential of the concepts is realised.

I like the casting of Hardy and Robbie and I think the casting of Leto as The Joker is great, though I hope they don't try and force the character to be something like the one in Nolan's film, and rather go out of the box. The Joker is a very well known and layered character, and I hope Leto and WB/DC can put a new spin on the character and not rely on previous tricks.

Can't say the same about the rest of the cast. Especially Jai Courtney... Especially him.

I can see Leto perhaps being more on the prissy side. This is a shared universe with super powered beings, so realism goes out the window per se. And the characters are all established, given Batman being a seasoned crimefighter. I can see him being well dressed, using clown gadgets and such, but not being any less dangerous.

I'm thinking Leto would be great as the flesh and blood version of Mark Hamill's Joker from Batman: TAS.

Jack didn't have Harley though. Hamill's Joker was at his best with Harley at his side.

I like Harley Quinn, but I find her more annoying than useful to Mr. J. Besides, I don't believe you need Quinn to have a complete Joker.

You don't, just pointing out differences between Jack's Joker and animated versions.

On another note, I've always wanted someone else to have a mustache underneath the facepaint a la Cesar Romero as a sort of tribute. Would be cool for Leto to do!

Yeah I was rather excited too. Jared Leto can easily pull off the Joker. Also Harley Quinn will be exciting! I have always appreciated Tom Hardy because he is a fantastic actor. Jai Courtney is pretty sexy though so I am kind of excited he is in this movie ;)

I wonder about this film and the Spider-Man-villain-movie "The Sinister Six".

Will these stories really work?  Watching villains team up to redeem themselves?  Without the actual hero in it?

Personally, I´d rather see a good Batman- or Spider-Man film...

I am not sure if they will work but I will be seeing both of these movies in theaters probably.

Maybe not Sinister 6.. Sony annoys the heck out of me.

I know nothing about 'Suicide Squad' so I'm not phased by the casting, except Leto as The Joker and Robbie as Harley Quinn as they're the only two characters I'm aware of from other sources.

BUT got some good actors in that pot so should be interesting. I'm guessing it'll be a 'Watchmen' style of film, the darker, mature side of superheroes...well, villains.

I think they'd be wise to avoid the redemption angle.  Since we're in a The Dark Knight Returns era of Batman filmmaking now, maybe Suicide Squad gives the Joker his means to get out to take on last crack at Batman, rather than just awakening from a catatonic state like in the comic.

I'd also have to imagine that Affleck's Batman will make at least some form of an appearance in this one.  Probably not in a huge role, but I could see him involved early, and perhaps in one big action sequence, before being told by the Suicide Squad's overseers to stand down.

Looking forward to who will be cast as Amanda Waller. Viola Davis would be perfect.
