All in good fun! I do tend to take myself WAY too seriously with my beloved comics, so feel free to call me out on it

No knowledge at all about 'Shazam' or 'Black Adam' so this will be a revelation to me as it unfurls. Sounds good though!
Posted 04 September 2014 - 02:19 PM
The only things I'm worried about are:
- DC being forced to call him "Shazam" now, even though his REAL name is "Captain Marvel."
- Capturing the essence that Captain Marvel is actually a very young boy named Billy Batson in a superhero's body.
Posted 04 September 2014 - 02:56 PM
...really? I need to Wiki this guy I think, I didn't know any of that!
I always felt Shazam sounds very...childish....I don't know, doesn't sound very tough or intimidating. But what do I know...?
Posted 04 September 2014 - 03:07 PM
Really! He's a little boy who can transform into a superhero when he yells "SHAZAM!"
The general premise is quite childish, but the hero himself is extremely powerful - he's even held his own against Superman at times.

I think that it's a good thing he has this childhood quality to him. If done right, this could be DC's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Except it won't be. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment want to stand out and have virtually no forms of humor present in any of their films, starting with Batman v Superman. They don't want to try balancing it out, because they're afraid of having another Green Lantern (even though I quite liked Green Lantern)
Posted 05 September 2014 - 02:57 AM
Actually, DC has said Shazam! will not be part of the Supes/Bats/Justice League continuity and will be released through New Line Cinema. They also noted it will have a sense of fun and humor.

Hmmm. Thought I read somewhere that it was going to fit in the DC Cinematic Universe. It makes sense why it wouldn't since Black Adam and Shazam aren't apart of the Justice League.
Posted 05 September 2014 - 03:24 AM
Also, the magic factor. If Superman ever fought Black Adam in a film, he would likely lose due to being vulnerable to magic..

Saw it! The batmobile looks super super cool.
Posted 15 September 2014 - 08:43 PM
It seems like they took the two best Batmobiles, in my opinion (Burton's and the tumbler), and fused them into one. I like that.

It appears that Joaquin Phoenix has withdrawn his name for Marvel's Doctor Strange, as he doesn't feel keen on being committed to Marvel's hectic schedule (can't blame the guy). Apparently Ethan Hawke is now under talks to play the character. I actually like this, as he was one of three choices I felt would do the character justice (the other two being Phoenix and Nicolas Cage[Yes, Cage indeed]). Especially if Marvel wants to go with someone who isn't young, and has some age to them, Hawke is a great choice, and I can totally see him as Doctor Strange. It also helps that he has a great working relationship with the film's director, Scott Derrickson, whom I've begun to take a liking to considerably. The two worked together in 2012's Sinister, and though it's taken a rewatch or so, Sinister is easily my favorite horror film in the last five years, and I definitely enjoyed Derrickson's latest outing, Deliver Us From Evil, and I believe his visual style will properly bring the character to life. And plus, Derrickson seems very passionate about the project to, so that makes it all the better.
With all of that said, I can only hope that Hawke signs on and joins the film. I have a good feeling that he will, especially with Derrickson behind the director's chair, and if that happens, I will surely be looking forward to it.
What do you think?

I do consider myself a serious comic book fan, but I've never liked Dr. Strange... maybe a well-made film adaptation with a great lead will change my mind!

Wow Hawke certainly has the acting chops and he looks like him.. We shall see I suppose but this seems rather promising.

DC Strikes Back!
Justice League, Wonder Woman, And More Release Dates Confirmed (Updated)
The full list is as follows:
Zack Snyder, who is helming Batman v Superman, will direct both Justice League films, which are now confirmed to be a two-part production.
The announcement came at a shareholders meeting, where CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed the detailed plans. The announcement confirms what many of us have known and been hinting at — or outright telling you — for months: Justice League is filming back-to-back with Batman v Superman, with some actual overlap in productions. And despite reluctance to confirm previously, the Wonder Woman stand-alone film was likewise a well-known eventuality.
The big surprises on the list are the new Green Lantern film, and the Flash movie, since it seemed Flash was getting a TV show and thus precluded from joining the film slate. Green Lantern’s failed 2011 film attempt had widely been considered a guarantee he’d not be showing up for a while, although the 2020 release date provides ample room between attempts.
It’s also possible that the Man of Steel 2 film — confirmed as in development, so Superman fans rest easy, okay? — will end up on one of the 2020 release dates, and there’s a solo Batman film in development that could either get a 2020 date or might even end up popping up sooner on the list. We’ll have to wait for confirmation on those, though, but both films are planned for release by 2020. For now, the confirmed films and dates should go far toward making fans happy for the next several years.
Today’s announcement comes hot on the heels of this week’s news that Robert Downey Jr. will likely appear in Captain America 3, which releases just six weekends afterBatman v Superman. That news sent a shock wave through fandom and the press, and set off calls from fans on social media for Warner to offer up some juicy tidbits about their own superhero team plans. Well, ask and ye shall receive, Interwebs. [You can read my full coverage of the Captain America 3 news here, but be aware it contains some hefty spoilers!]
Warner previously announced a slate of mostly untitled DC Comics film adaptations. Those dates establish plans for two DC movies every year from 2016 through 2020 — March and August 2016, June and November 2017, March and July 2018, April and June 2019, and April and June 2020. However, the two November dates in fact may not turn out to be DC films, and are labeled as “event” movies by the official release from the studio. Some outlets have asserted that their sources confirm those November movies as DC films as well, which would seem to suggest they must be Justice Leaguepictures, but so far that’s not confirmed.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was already confirmed last month as Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie (and here’s my apparently-controversial speculation about who might be cast as the title superhero for that film).
Ben Affleck plays Batman, Henry Cavill is Superman, Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman,Ray Fisher is Cyborg, Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman, and Ezra Miller takes on the role of the Flash. We’ll likely hear more casting confirmations soon, too, so stay tuned!
Here is the full press release from Warner Bros, with all the details…
Warner Bros. Details Strategic Content Plans at Time Warner TWX +2.22% Investor Conference
(October 15, 2014 – Burbank, CA CA +0.05%) – Today at a Time Warner investors meeting, Warner Bros.’ Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara outlined an aggressive content strategy for the Studio aimed at increasing profits while “doubling down on outstanding content, working with the best talent and maintaining the culture that makes Warner Bros. so great.”
“The demand for high quality video content is growing fast – in the United States and around the world – as new technologies have created new platforms and millions of new connected consumers,” said Tsujihara. “The opportunity is huge. And no studio is better positioned to take advantage of it than Warner Bros.”
As part of his presentation, Tsujihara announced a bold expansion of the industry’s broadest theatrical slate, built around the largest, most important global franchises. Warner Bros. Pictures will release three LEGO-branded films over the next four years, building upon the enormous success of this year’s “The LEGO Movie” ($468 million worldwide box office), starting with “Ninjago” in 2016, directed by Charlie Bean and produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Batman will take a star turn in “The LEGO Batman Movie” in 2017, directed by Chris McKay, and the sequel, “The LEGO Movie 2,” will debut in 2018.
The Studio will release three pictures, in 2016, 2018 and 2020, based on best-selling authorJ.K. Rowling’s original story and screenwriting debut, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Set in an extension of her familiar wizarding world, featuring magical creatures and characters inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook and its fictitious author, Newt Scamander, “Fantastic Beasts” will be directed by David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, and reunite the filmmaking team of David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
And, in a massive expansion of the Studio’s DC Entertainment-branded content, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema will release a slate of at least 10 movies—as well as stand-alone Batman and Superman films—from 2016 through 2020 that expands this prized universe of characters:
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
“Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (2016)
“Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot (2017)
“Justice League Part One,” directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017)
“The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller (2018)
“Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa (2018)
“Shazam” (2019)
“Justice League Part Two,” directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
“Cyborg,” starring Ray Fisher (2020)
“Green Lantern” (2020)
On the television front, Warner Bros. Television Group is the undisputed industry leader, providing 32 shows to the five broadcast networks and an overall roster of more than 60 shows among network, cable, first-run syndication and animation. WBTVG will grow its leadership across multiple fronts, including cable, premium platform and kids programming as well as further its precedent-setting activities in SVOD and international television production and format sales.
Among the Studio’s programs are network TV’s #1 entertainment series in “The Big Bang Theory” and #1 unscripted series in “The Voice,” as well as favorites such as “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Gotham,” “The Middle,” “Mom,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Bachelor” franchise, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and many more.
For Turner, Warner Horizon Television’s “Rizzoli & Isles” and Warner Bros. Television’s “Major Crimes” are two of the top three scripted series on all of basic cable for 2014, and the #1 and #2 shows, respectively, on TNT. The Studio has a number of future projects set up at TNT, including a pilot production order for an untitled drama set in the unpredictable world of the Florida cocaine trade in the 1970s, from Jerry Bruckheimer, Michael Bay and Michelle Ashford, and is in development on “Titans,” from Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes, based upon the DC Comics characters.
At HBO, WBTV’s first series for the premium television company, the critically acclaimed “The Leftovers,” debuted this summer and has already been picked up for a second season. WBTV has also produced the pilot “Westworld,” from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Jonathan Nolan, Jerry Weintraub and Lisa Joy, and starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris and Evan Rachel Wood, and has a number of other projects in development at the company.
Warner Bros. Animation is producing new series based on the Studio’s iconic brands, such as the upcoming “Be Cool Scooby-Doo!” and “The Tom and Jerry Show.” WBA’s “Teen Titans Go!” ranks as the #1 show in its timeslot against all kids’ networks.
For the first time ever, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution has licensed the exclusive subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) rights to one of television’s most successful series ever, WBTV’s “Friends,” to Netflix in the U.S. and Canada. Starting January 1, 2015, Netflix members will have access to the entire 236 episode run of the series, which is still an enormous linear hit on cable (Nick at Nite and TBS) and in broadcast syndication.
Worldwide Television Distribution has also sold the off-network SVOD rights to the hit Warner Bros. Television series “Person of Interest” to Netflix in the United States. The first three seasons of the series, which currently airs on CBS, will be made available to subscribers in fall 2015, at the same time the series premieres off-network on WGN America.
These two deals are just the latest examples of how the Studio’s hit series continue to serve as annuities for decades beyond their initial broadcast. Further increasing the value of Warner Bros.’ library, since 1999, WBTVG has developed and produced 20 series that have reached the 100-episode milestone or will do so during the 2014–15 season.
“At Warner Bros., we are united to not only continue to create the world’s greatest entertainment content, but to over-deliver on our financial targets,” said Tsujihara. “I’ve been with the company for over 20 years and I can’t remember a time when I’ve felt more confident about our future. We’re committed to maintaining and enhancing the great legacy of Warner Bros., the world’s most iconic and profitable studio.”

Well it's DCs time to shine I guess now!
Looking forward to the individual Superman and Batman films - we need more from the DC poster boys, but excited to see new adventures with heroes I have no clue about also!
Bring it on!

What, no "Man of Steel 2"?
I'm sure that there will be a Man of Steel 2. It's probably just a matter of figuring out the logistics of when it will be filmed, released, etc. The Batman is currently rumored for 2019, so I would imagine that Man of Steel 2 would probably be looking at a release around 2020.

Ouch.. I didn't think Man of Steel was that bad.

I didn't either, but at the same time I don't feel like it was a great launch for a potential franchise. I think that the studio actually made a good decision by bringing in Batman for the "sequel" to Man of Steel, giving them another chance to launch this version of Superman as a franchise character with a film that is guaranteed to be financially successful due to the long awaited meeting of DC's two biggest characters.

The Amazing Spiderman 2
So I watched this yesterday because my roommate hasn't seen it yet and I figure I really want to see it again too to see if my opinion about this movie changes.
The film opens with Richard Parker trying to destroy all of his research and how his wife Mary were fleeing from the Oscorp Corporation. The plane that they are on crashes but not before Richard Parker is uploading some file on to his computer. Back in the present we have Peter fighting the Rhino (not yet the Rhino) in Manhattan. It's his graduation day and he is trying to save the city while trying to get his diploma. What I really enjoy about this movie is Peter Parkers humor. It gives the audience something to laugh at and it makes the film less dark. There is plenty of humor in this scene and I love it. Peter ultimetely makes it to his graduation and of course he is reunited with Gwen. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield.. don't get me started. Their chemistry is absolutely phenomenal. Every time they do a scene together, you can see the emotion and you can tell that it's real. These two clearly have great chemistry with each other.
Now on to the villains of this movie. Max Dillion (Jamie Foxx) works at Oscorp corporation. He is rather lonely and when Spiderman saves his life, he is excited. He thinks of Spiderman as a god. We seem him transform into Electro. I like how they are using Electro just because he isn't as well known of a villain and I think it works. I wish that the film took more time to develop him as a character instead of trying to push forward the Green Goblin. Wait the Green Goblin is in this movie?? Well yes. Dane DeHane plays Harry Osborne. He goes to see his father in the beginning of the movie and his father tells him that he is dying and this disease is genetic. Harry is now running his own company when all of a sudden Peter shows up to see him. Wait a second.. Peter and Harry are friends? One thing I loved about the original trilogy of Spiderman is the build up of the Green Goblin. At the end of the first original Spiderman, James Franco lets everyone know that Spiderman is going to get what is coming to him. This gives buildup to the entire trilogy in when will this happen? Instead, in the Amazing Spiderman, this happens in maybe an hour? To me that was rather disappointing. The finale to this movie is pretty good. The part with Electro was great except it was over rather quickly. Electro really wasn't given the chance to try and be Spiderman's equal. Electro has all these cool abilities and Spiderman takes him out rather quickly (with the help of Gwen of course) I did really like the sequence of the clock tower fight scene with the Goblin. That was pretty cool especially trying to save Gwen and fight the Goblin all at once. Unfortunately, Gwen Stacy is killed when Peter tries to save her. I loved the way this was filmed. It shows Gwen and it looks like she has been saved when really she hasn't and Peter must live with the fact that he may have been responsible for putting her in danger.
The movie then shows Peters depression and how he can't live with the fact that he has a responsibility in her death. Also this movie does do a little bit of a "tease" into Sinister 6 as we do see Doctor Octopus's Arms, the Vulture's wings and more.
Here are the parts that I loved about the movie:
Here is what I did not like
Overall, this movie could have been better. Is it as bad as Spiderman 3? ABSOLUTELY NOT. That comparison is extremely unfair. The Amazing Spiderman 2 had much more going on but I think it was handled better than Spiderman 3. It's not my favorite Marvel movie ever, but it certainly isn't horrible and I definitely would re watch it because I do enjoy Spiderman as a character and Andrew Garfields take on Peter Parker.
