I agree.  But I believe this is actually their stab at an "Avengers"-type bonanza because their Justice League movie could not be made yet.

I had rather gotten another Superman film.  Putting Batman in it was already a risk.  Then Wonder Woman.  Now Aquaman.  There won´t be enough time to develop these characters, IMO.  "The Avengers" at least featured mostly characters which had been dealt with in previous movies.

I don't think that adding Batman to the mix is all that big of a risk, as the character is a major draw at the box office.  They also lessen the risk of rebooting the character after the wildly successful Nolan/Bale films by technically introducing him within the confines of a different franchise.  People who might have been skeptical of a new Batman might instead lay that aside simply because they're finally pairing what are probably the two most popular comic book heroes together on the silver screen for the first time.

I actually think that having the contents of the film reflect the working title, Batman vs. Superman, i.e. having it simply focus on those two characters, would have been a very good way of laying the initial foundation for DC and WB building towards a Justice League film.  They would have laid the groundwork for the rest of the supposed DC universe by establishing their top two characters in a way that we haven't seen before on film.  From there, they could have built the thing outward much like Marvel did, next having a Wonder Woman film (with possible cameos by both Affleck and Cavill as their respective characters if need be) and then move forward with Aquaman, Green Lantern, and maybe a solo-Batman film before finally bringing everything together with a Justice League film.  Simply stuffing Batman vs. Superman to the brim with every DC character under the sun simply to quicken the process is not a smart move at all, and quite honestly, I don't think that Snyder is talented enough to pull that off, even with Christopher Nolan assisting behind the scenes.

Wait and see, of course, it could all work out, but it feels like DC trying to catch up real fast and making a big, hot, mess out of the whole thing.  Nobody knew who Cap, Thor, or Iron Man were before they got their own movies.  DC has these properties everyone knows, if only by basic Super Friends concepts, and yet they're just throwing it all in the mix rather than letting these marketable titles breath on their own.  Oh well, I hope it works out, because I'm a Batman fan and more good superhero movies are better than more bad superhero movies.  But if it doesn't, well I still have Marvel doing it right, which I prefer anyway.

Rumor - Johnny Depp as DOCTOR STRANGE!?

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/65730

About MAN OF STEEL VS THE DARK KNIGHT or that is what I'm calling it at the moment. Wasn't there also a rumor that Denzel Washington might play the Green Lantern. Also Dwayne Johnson signed on recently with DC and is also rumored to be in the Man Of Steel sequel as some type of cliffhanger villain that leads into the Justice League.

So we have;

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman

and we might have;

Aquaman, Green Lantern, whoever Dwayne Johnson is playing

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released the trailer for their next animated film, Son of Batman, today.  The film stars the voices of Jason O'Mara as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Morena Baccarin as Talia al Ghul.  The film is slated for a spring release on DVD, Blu-ray, and various On Demand platforms.

Oh sorry I was drooling over Scarlet Johansson

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, I'm not sold. I'm hoping that with Jeremy Irons as Alfred that means maybe he'll have a past in British Special Forces like in Earth One and Beware the Batman (which is now cancelled). Personally, I hoped the rumors of Joaquin Phoenix playing Lex would be true, even Bryan Cranston would've made a great Lex IMO. So now who's the other villain(s)?

It's almost as if Warner Bros. doesn't want anybody to see the Man of Steel sequel.  And Marvel's gonna release like five more movies before this one even comes out.

Agreed.  The difference is IMO that Marvel is in the business of putting their concepts on film while WB is in the business of milking concepts that they bought, interfering with filmmakers in order to balance their relationships with stars they want to keep happy in order to get their next projects.

IMO, the wonderful MAN OF STEEL (gets better with every viewing) could have easily gotten a sequel without any other superhero involved.

But WB is so determined to get an AVENGERS-sized cash cow - the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie - that they are overloading this MOS-sequel.  Also, they seem to have been pushing for Ben Affleck to get the Batman role, then they were surprised that this choice raised eyebrows, then Affleck got nervous and demanded rewrites which pushed Goyer´s script out, and now everybody is pulling at the strings of this.

That does not mean that in the end there won´t be good movie.  But the way will be extremely difficult, unnecessarily so.  Look at all the failed Superman-projects before "Superman returns" got off the ground.  WB is messing with the creatives too much.

wouldn't it make more sense to just focus on Batman/Superman with the other JL members show up at the end recruited by Batman to create the Justice League and then a glimpse of a constructed watchtower.

B.J. Novak is playing yet another villain in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

For those keeping count, the addition of Smythe brings the number of villains in ASM 2 up to five: Electro, Norman and Harry Osborn, Rhino, and now, Smythe, not to mention the already-built tech for Doc Ock and others we've seen in the trailers.

Who knows it could end up being an inspired choice.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think that TV show is going to be kind of interesting. I am going to watch it for sure! Plus Ben McKenzie is an interesting choice for a young Gordon. I am going to watch this.

Not been in this thread for a long time - good to be back!

Well with all the developments, I'll just sum up my feelings in a nutshell on each:

'Captain America 2' - Fails to impress, looking like generic CG Avengers action. The first at least had novelty of the WW setting.

'The Amazing Spiderman 2' - Not a fan of the first, and the trailers to this are insulting to me, as it looks like one big video game.

'Gotham' - Not kept up to speed on this, but could be interesting but I feel it will not be anything special, just cashing in on a name.

'Man Of Steel 2' - Very surprising casting, but I remind myself of public reaction to Heath Ledger cast as The Joker at first...

'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' - Excited for this one, thanks to 'The Wolverine' putting my faith back in the series. Can't wait!

Justice League developments - All nice on paper, but I hope it works and not one big rush job to compete with Marvel as DC have some really iconic heroes that need the attention and care they deserve, like Christopher Nolan did for Batman.

I'm really on familiar with Kate Mara, who is a good casting choice, so I can't pass much judgment on the rest of the team.  Still, they have a good gig in front of them, as they can't possibly do any worse than the previous two Fantastic Four films.

I guess with the new direction superhero movies are going, it will be "darker" and more "gritty" than the fluff of the first original two.

Miles Teller is an odd choice. I've seen him in some recent teen comedies. Seems too young to play Mr. Fantastic

I agree with Miles Teller being an odd choice. I never was a huge fan of the Fantastic Four films, but I always thought they were well cast. I liked Ben Grimm as the Thing.. he really fit the role to me. I like Kate Mara, that's a really good choice but the others are really hmm..

Everyone is all frustrated that they're casting someone black as the Human Torch. Personally, it doesn't matter to me as long as he can pull off the personality of the Human Torch.

I found Jamie Bell a strange choice for Ben Grimm as 'The Thing' - I thought Chiklis did him pretty well in the old (it's not even old!) 'Fantastic Four', and I thought the character would have that bigger build to encapsulate the hulking mass of Thing.

They probably will do the thin geek / mild mannered type turning into a huge hulking monster......hang on.....
