I am surprised that the DVD/Blu-ray is being announced and advertised already. This could easily kill any box office momentum the film had. I realise it is coming to end of its cinema release in most markets, but let it end naturally and not because people will just wait a few weeks for the home entertainment release. That billion dollar target will be further away now ( & I'm still hoping it makes £100million in the UK).

I'm not so sure about that. The DVD/Blu-ray release date was announced a week or so after the North American release (check the date at the beginning of the thread). It didn't hurt box office then so I don't think it will now. Anybody who has the "I'll wait for the DVD" mentality has likely had that since the beginning. Just my two cents. I do agree that it was surprising that it was announced so soon, but that seems to be how it goes nowadays. I nearly missed the release of The Expendables 2 on Blu-ray because I wasn't expecting it out so soon after it left theaters.

Theoretically, if Skyfall stopped making money in all existing markets right now (at $974 million worldwide), China would only have to give it $26 million to hit the magic $1 billion mark. For reference, Quantum of Solace doubled Casino Royale's business in China (Casino did around $11 million whereas Quantum did around $22 million). This year, The Dark Knight Rises made around $52 million in China.

All I'm saying is you shouldn't worry about it missing the billion mark, it'll be there in no time. ;)

I guess I should have been more specific - my real point was more directed at the advertising of the blu ray now, whilst Skyfall is still in cinemas, as opposed to announcing in film mags/websites that the blu-ray release is soon. Plus it's still 7 weeks or so away. Skyfall is still playing at cinemas and the Christmas holidays are a chance to get those last few dollars in the bank account now. The sooner that billion (or in the UK the magic £100million) is reached, the more the studio can shout about it (ie advertise it) and get a few more people into cinemas.

Sorry, not a rant, just a few thoughts.

All publicity is.... and all that.

I severely doubt putting out the Blu specs will dissuade people from going out.  It was coming out in 4-5 like every other films.  Most people seeing it at this point are either repeat viewers or people who just go to the cinema and see what looks interesting.

Hopefully Best Buy will put this out in the US, as they seem to be the ones most likely to do it considering history.

I actually think that's real guys - there is one almost identical to that in the UK, with the release date at the end under the cover art.

They are identical to the TV spots, but with the Blu-Ray image attatched.

I think this is genuine!

It is genuine - same trailer is on Amazon UK. Also, the relative early release date is to counter piracy once the film is released theatrically in China. Not sure what loss of Box Office people are talking about, film was released more than two months ago and has now been superseded by the likes of The Hobbit and various family Christmas films.

The Amazon (U.S.) listing doesn't include special features for either Blu-Ray or DVD, so it's impossible to tell if the extras will be on the DVD as well. Anyone know one way or the other? Won't be surprised if they're not on the DVD.

If the DVD has no special features, then I'm not buying it.

I think I have purchased one DVD since switching to Blu-Ray but it is unfortunate that they are making short shrift of DVD releases now.

For making 'Skyfall' a billion dollar Bond smash, we better get something pretty good as a thank you!  ;)

Just noticed that the posted release date is Feburary 18, which is a Monday. At least here in the US, video releases are virtually always on Tuesday. Could this have been a misprint, and the real date is the 19th?

Tuesday isn't set in stone anymore.  Looper came out on this Monday and I've seen movies released on Fridays as well now.

I wonder if they will add something in the cover like Skyfall nominated for OScar's best original song, picture, cinematography something to make the audience pick it up!

where can you find the steelbox besides HMV? I cannot find it on amazon?

Can anyone fill me in, I'm curious is there going to be a special edition released a month or 2 after the first dvd/blu ray release? Otherwise, I'd wait for that one. I haven't completely been following the thread, thanks.

So far Blu-Ray get's everything. DVD gets a single disc edition with almost nothing.

I see, thanks. I still haven't gone to Blu Ray, I suppose its time to upgrade.

I saw a BR player at Target for $80.00 and PC drives at Best Buy from anywhere from $50.00-$80.00, so for that low of a price I'm re-considering.

Australian release date confirmed as 27th of March.

Haven't spotted which retailer will be getting the IMAX steelbook, if any, but hopefully JB Hifi do it as they have done steelbooks for films in the past.

JB Hifi will be getting the steelbook with IMAX poster artwork like the UK.

Pre-ordered my Blu-Ray copy on Amazon.com a couple weeks ago. I pretty much quit buying DVDs once I picked up my PS3 about two years ago. You have to be careful with the format though, not all releases are created equal when it comes to video quality. Sound quality is usually always an upgrade from DVD though.

I am guessing that there is no extended version of Skyfall.......as some deleted scene could be included! And so far is there any indication there is any deleted scene in the dvd/blueray

Is the steelbook version on amazon yet? I need an answer please

No signs of deleted scenes as yet I don't think, which is a shame as we know there was a lot of footage un-used and it'd be great to see.

I wonder how this will affect the availability of the steelbook in the UK:

Hopefully they stick it out long enough for it to be released, or perhaps it will be given to a different retailer.

As I bought my first BLU RAY player yesterday, I nearly ordered the HMV steel box last night, the only thing what stopped me was, i had not ordered anything from them online since 2007 and i had a different e-mail address then, which i no longer have acess to, so could not recall my password! I do hope that HMV will be saved though, it is the only music-dvd stote left in the highstreet following the demise of MVC, WOOLWORTHS, OUR PRICE and so on.........

Didn't even think of that. Really sad to see a High Street stalwart such as HMV in so much trouble, but it almost seems inevitable these days. Here's hoping there's a way out for them.

Me too - but with their expensive prices, on-line retailers are troucning them in sales and it's just a matter of time.

Hopefully they could still trade on-line, thus enabling the Steelbook to continue...?
