I'm in the good ol' US of A.

I'm still going to buy my own physical copy, and since it's out digitally now online, I may consider buying it for my PC.

plan to buy the blueray in the store when it release or around that week
Posted 05 February 2013 - 09:37 AM
Enjoy it everyone! I would love to get it on iTunes but know I will only watch it once before the Blu-Ray is out, so I'll save my expectations for the release of the hard-copy!
Ohhhh but it's tempting though! Can't wait!

Does anyone found a official Blu Ray Tv-Spot for Skyfall?
Posted 05 February 2013 - 10:30 AM
The US copy of Skyfall is available to UK customers now from www.dvdworldusa.com
I think it will be region coded so you'll need a multi-region blu-ray player. Even though I have a multi-region player, I'm waiting for the UK steelbook because it is, as we say round these parts, lush.

Is there anything different about the US copy?

For those who haven't seen them, I've just updated the image thread with banners to promote the United States DVD launch.

The Blu-ray already contains a digital copy.

Will the DVD that comes with the Blu-ray just be the film on its own? I presume so. I've bought the Blu-ray for the steelbook and it looks much nicer than the DVD art, plus I plan to get a BR player eventually.

I'm aware of that - but I'm impatient
Also, keep in mind that a lot of digital copies nowadays are UV only and won't work on iTunes, if that is the format you use.
I know that annoys me beyond belief.

Amazon.co.uk are no longer selling the Steelbook I notice, only the basic Blu-Ray. Is this due to them selling out do you think? Hope it's not being pulled or cancelled or anything....!

I'm not sure TCR, I haven't had my order cancelled.
That video was good, I like the look of the Aston Martin on the back.

It's because they have already sold out the stock they are allocated. Same thing happened when I attempted to pre-order the limited Titanic box set.
If you ordered one, you'll get it. If not and you really want one, sign up to be notified in case someone cancels their pre-order.
Gotta move quickly!

Oh no. I originally pre-ordered this on HMV. Damn. I was going to order pretty soon.
Posted 06 February 2013 - 03:54 PM
Sold-out? Wow, haven't seen that happen for a new release before I don't think.
Glad I got mine pre-ordered.

I've had a Blu-ray copy of Skyfall since last week*. And I've been watching it a lot, as the picture and sound quality are both stunning. It's a hypnotically beautiful disc that many folks are going to use for HD demos.
But the extras? Eh. The documentary and the commentary track all have interesting info to share. But the majority of the content is rather typical for bonus features: Everyone was so wonderful to work with. That part there is actually CGI. But that bit there is real. Now let's dryly describe what's happening on screen. Etc.
I don't want to rain on everyone's excitement. Some may disagree with me about the bonus features. But my recommendation is that you lower your expectations about them. The good news is that you will be watching the gorgeous main feature like crazy for the rest of the year.
*Let's just say that the bigger the city, the more lax some shadier video stores will be about release dates.

IMO, that´s the problem with bonus content these days.
When it started to be included on DVDs it was not that much pre-packaged and sanitized yet.
Nowadays it´s almost always just PR filler. And the commentaries, of course, never really can tell you what was going on during the filming because everybody fears lawsuits or bad blood that will prevent them from working again.
So, we´re stuck with anecdotes that don´t hurt anyone, maybe some good director explaining their choices of shots. Do not expect anything else anymore. The bonus content is only a selling point for us nerds who still believe we get a look behind the scenes.
And don´t get me started on the Peter Jackson-documentaries. Just as overlong as his films. And also not really a document of what was going on behind the scenes - only what Mr. Jackson wants you to think what was going on.
The only really good documentary on a DVD can be found for "12 monkeys" - detailing all the problems Terry Gilliam faced. Including Bruce Willis (who is so good in the film) asking typical superstar questions about "the kind of film" they are making.
For me, I am happy if I get a pristine print of the movie itself these days.
Deleted scenes mostly were deleted for a reason and not much noteworthy. And to get educated on the use of green screen, CGI or make-up prosthetics might be interesting the first time around. But these days I skip that gladly.

I'll watch a movie 10-20 times for every time I watch the extras so as long as the movie is done right I'm happy.

The extras on dvd/blu-ray have always been like that i don't think they have changed much over the years
