I need to upgrade to Blu Ray, might as well do it now. Who knows maybe they'll stop making blu ray players that play dvd's which would suck. I was thinking about getting a PS3 since it has a Blu ray.

The 2 audio commentaries certainly make this worth it but I would hate to findout down the line that they are releasing a special edition with even more features.

maybe there is deleted scene but there no info about it yet

I was thinking the same thing, we'll find out soon enough though.

You know I've never listened to a Bond film commentary - any good ones? I know I should have, I've watched them enough to not hear everything...!

I would suggest listening to the commentaries on your favorite films for starters, but I really enjoy the Roger Moore commentaries on the UE/Blu-ray releases of all of his films and I wish they'd been able to get the other Bonds to participate in similar commentaries for their respective films.

There are commentaries on all of the DVDs (except for the original, non-SE releases of DN, FRWL, GF, TSWLM, MR, GE and TND) but I think the most interesting commentaries, however, are the ones not included on any of the DVDs or Blu-ray discs; the first Criterion Laserdisc releases of Dr. No, FRWL and Goldfinger had some very off-the-cuff commentaries that are a little out there at times and ended up being "banned" by EON Productions.  Since they're not going to be included on any official releases anytime soon, you can find them at the 007 Dossier:  http://www.the007dos...mmentaries.aspx

Very cool, I thanks for the link. I had no idea laser disks had commentaries.

Sorry, I've done the comparisons with Blu-Ray movie Rips on my HD monitor and DVD's, No difference at all in any aspect. Therefore, why should I upgrade? The bonus features? Sorry, I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon.

Yes, if you are using a small monitor or a smaller TV you won't see much difference between Blu Ray or DVD. However if you have a large TV (I have a 55" 1080P), the difference is night and day.

Here's a Blu-ray cover I put together to match the covers I made for the rest of the series:

When say 'match', the others in this series all used official poster art for their front cover...

Fantastic work DLibrasnow! Loud, busy and full of detail - how I like my Bond covers. I'd use them for sure! Really good, all of them.

And thank you for putting Severine on the front cover of 'Skyfall'.  :)

I know...I don't like any of the official posters for "Skyfall." I also felt underwhelmed by the official posters for "Quantum of Solace" but opted to work one of them for that cover. The "match" comes more from a common template that I created in 2011 being used for all the covers.

There is perhaps an alternate version of a "Skyfall" cover that I will put together in the future but for now I am using this one :)

HMV aren't honouring in-store pre-orders for today's DVD releases that they aren't stocking, and won't refund you.

I heard from my family in the UK that HMV are going out of business...is that true?

That's wrong of them to do that Pete!

And yeah, it's sort of true DLibrasnow, they went into administration the other week after amassing loads of debt, but it seems some higher power is buying them and paying the debt to continue running HMV, so they may have a life line but if they get back up and running, they need to watch their prices as they're so over-priced it's not a surprise they went downhill and lost sales.

I made an alternate version using the UK poster for those who prefer the original posters.

:)

Sorry for being a pedantic pain in the ass.

The company that looks after HMV Canada, Hilco, have got control over HMV in the UK now.  However, I must admit to not knowing what this control will 'offer' HMV in terms of a future.  While the Film distributors and Music labels are said to want HMV to survive, they won't put any (more) money into keeping it afloat.

For my part, I think HMV has long been a redundant business model and they have for a long time now, Not been the force of film and music knowledge within their stores.  One customer is alleged to have asked where the Crosby, Stills and Nash music was kept.  The assistant had never heard of them so the customer asked to speak to the Manager.

'I AM the manager', the chap said, redundantly.

The customer left, and presumably clicked to Amazon.

This was the only decent poster, and sensibly it was used on the steel book

On Amazon.co.uk I believe they've posted an image of the rear of the Blu-Ray, and I assume it will match the DVD...

Looks like the steelbook contains the dvd too. Can we trust this? I don't have a blu ray player but I'll splash out on the nice case if it contains the DVD...

Yes, I'd say we can trust this to have the Blu-Ray, DVD and digital copy.

Mine too. Hopefully I don't regret it when I see a retailer-specific 2 disc DVD on release; Mission Impossible 4 had one in Sainsbury's that had a lot of the Blu-ray content on the second disc.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the image above appears to state the film's duration is 137 minutes, whereas the cinematic version was 143 minutes !!!

Apologies if this has already been debunked, but if not then what going on here - how can they possibly cut 6 minutes ?

Is it perhaps something to do with frame rates; converting the IMAX fps to Blu ray's 24 fps ?

Btw, i pre-ordered the blu-ray and Amazon just bumped me up to the steel book for free :)

it's the back of the DVD, which loses so many frames per second that it makes the film shorter. You wouldn't notice when watching the film. Blu- ray isn't any lower frames from normal cinema release so should be 143 minutes.

One of the many reasons why I switched Blu-ray was because of the PAL format us Europeans have. Due to 4% compression, the visuals are sped up and pitched raised by slightly less than a semitone (meaning if you to play along to film music on a piano, it would be hard, since the audio's out of tune).

It says (probably wrongly) there that it's in NTSC. So PAL speed-up wouldn't apply. You'd get the equally demonic NTSC 3:2 pulldown instead.

I think this is a hodge-podge of the UK DVD and Blu-ray artwork, though. So, pay it no heed.
