I've only listened to it once. But my first reaction is, that it lacks the punch.

What kind of sound quality are you guys getting? I’m getting pretty piss poor distortion. (Not the good Fender kind. The bad Sanyo 1” tweeter kind.)
I’m not going to worry about what kind of ‘punch’ I hear until I hear it unadulterated.

Oh, this is so awesome it's unbelievable, can't wait for the full song to be released (unless the full song has been leaked and, if so, y'all know where my inbox is) in brilliant clarity.

Pulled my partner into the room, he liked the tune but didn't like the singing.

What a joyous thread this is! I haven't heard it yet but I think this thread proves that the theme song does matter. So does the gunbarrel, the 'James Bond will return', the title sequence and all the other stuff that makes up the Bond tradition. It's fun to talk and read about it ... so keep doing it..
I say this because there has been a number of posts lately that have belittled aspects of these films that are important to some people and...
...I'm going looking for the song

I was pretty disappointed when the song first leaked (though, it was the rock version), but it slowly grew on me and by the time I was sitting in the cinema at the world premiere...

Respect for that little drop there, [dark]! :(

Just fleshing out my reminisces with a little atmosphere! :)

This little sample is growing on me. I'm still unsure of any final verdict, but it's definitely one of the better Bond songs. And it's got a fun sensibility about it.

Well here's my take. Brace for unpopularity!

I like it. As an instrumental it's very strong. It captures the edge of Craig's Bond and incorporates with just the right amount of the classic jazzy Bond sound with a modern rock flavor mixed in.

I do concede that the lyrics are a little quirky and that the chorus doesn't really seem to have a strong harmony (I think that's just because the sound of White and Keys voices together just doesn't seem to lend to one).

Other than that I think it's pretty good. I'm really looking forward to the instrumental and hearing it on screen, though.

Oh. Robert Mugabe.

I voted for : I don't like it, based mainly on the fact that it sounds like a fan-made song, trying to sound the way a Bond song should sound like. The novelty of being a duet is undermined by the fact that it doesn't sound like one, doesn't have to be one.

Still, it is catchy, I think it'll work better than YKMN. Has a somewhat old fashioned touch, which could match the retro aesthetic that Craig and Forster claim the film to have.

So is it just me who thinks it's similar to TMWTGG, or at least more similar to TMWTGG than to any other Bond song?

I'll wait to reserve judgment until I hear the whole song, and in whatever arrangement they end up using in the film.

I can't make out the lyrics, which is a problem in and of itself. I think it will work, but if I could read the lyrics as I listen I'd get a better feel for it.

On second listen, I was able to make out more of it, especially the refrain. I'm liking it sooner than YOU KNOW MY NAME grew on me, although I think I like YKMN better (if that makes sense).

I can see where you're coming from. Similarities are remote, but existant. Opening chords are close, can't really say if they're the same. Tempo and arrangement are certainly different. But really similar or more similar to TMWTGG than to any other Bond song? Nah.

Ever heard of the "Great Britain Ukulele Orchestra"? This little piece of fun could teach you a thing or two about similarity or non-similarity of songs :(

I stand corrected. Still, October 28 for the billions of people that gave up on vinyl in the 80's. :(

Aren't tracks usually available for download before as CD releases? I'd guess it'll be on iTunes on Sept 29th too (only a guess, mind).

Well this would be the day I chose to actually leave my house and run errands! :(

Oh well. . . I'd rather wait to hear something official and in its entirety anyway. I'm a bit of a dorky girl scout in that regard. I'm just not into song downloads, personally. I'm a big sucker for packaging, bonus tracks, and liner notes, stuff to look at until I can get home and play the song.

I checked out my local record store at the mall to see when they'd get the single in. The guy looked at me like I was insane or 80 years old. "We don't sell singles anymore." :) No wonder I had such a hard time getting YKMN, I had to get that from eBay.

I don't see how they "took what made Bond songs great," since "Live and Let Die" and "Nobody Does It Better" don't really have much in common with any of their Bond song predecessors. They're huge departures.

What make Bond songs great is being larger then life as well as dramatic. Both songs did that with a good style. Not really a huge departure.

Yes, I would not say that "Nobody Does It Better" is a huge departure at all.

As for LALD. I consider it to be almost an insult to the genious music Barry created before it. It is impossible to even understand how that lame song can be considered to be better than TB, YOLT or DAF!!! But I know, the taste is different.

LALD was one the best songs ever made. I love that song and George Martin's score, he is the only one who has ever done Bond justice outside of John Barry.
