Funny isn't it, KOTSC has a great score, but it's the weakest of the Indy soundtracks.

Well, much like the film itself, being the worst of a great bunch doesn't actually make it bad.

‘Indiana Jones 5’? ‘Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ Screenwriter On The Chance For Another Sequel
Published by Eric Ditzian on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 10:33 am.
Indiana Jones 4At the end of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” brave Indy had a wife and a kid. By that point he’d already survived a nuclear blast by hiding in a refrigerator and escaped an inter-dimensional alien portal, so who could blame the grizzly archeologist for calling it quits? But the film did almost $790 million in worldwide business. No wonder there’s been talk from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and others about taking a fifth run at the franchise.
When MTV News caught up with “Crystal Skull” scribe David Koepp recently, the screenwriter was certainly open to the idea of “Indy 5.” “I thought [‘Crystal Skull’] was a pretty good way to go out, but you never know,” he told us. “Somebody has a great idea — it’s always worth doing.”
George Lucas once floated the idea that Shia LaBeouf character’s Mutt could take over the lead role, while Spielberg and Ford remain open to the possibility of revisiting the series.
For his part, LaBeouf has been busy with another Spielberg franchise, “Transformers.” But with director Michael Bay insisting that a third installment of the robot flicks won’t arrive until 2012, it’s possible that LaBeouf will have an opening in his schedule. All that’s needed, of course, would be a script.
While Koepp—who has written scripts for films as diverse as “Spider-Man,” “Ghost Town,” and the upcoming “Da Vinci Code” sequel, “Angels & Demons”—did not profess to know what Lucas might be planning, he did speculate the “Indy” creator is keeping the wheels turning. “I think he’s puttering away, seeing what he can come up with,” said Koepp.
Might anyone get a sneak-peak into what a fifth “Indy” would look like? “That is safely locked away in the man-sized vault kept in George’s head,” Koepp laughed.

Hadn't ever considered it before, but now that I do, I suppose I imagine the inside of George Lucas' head to look very much like a "man-sized vault". A big ol' hollow respository that is designed for safe-guarding cash, and that also serves as the source of the body's every thought and action.

It's mostly a brawler where you can use your pistol at specific spots. I hope there is plenty of adventuring and exploring too, though.

I watched one of the docs beforehand where Spielberg was talking about the connection between the orig Trilogy and the 30 seriels and the new movie and its connection to the 50s sci-fi/red peril movies; watched in that context did give me a better appreciation of the movie.
It's still full of problems of course...
For those in SoCal and interested, the Cinematheque at the Aero will be screening the first 3 pics on one night in July...I'll post the actual date when I have it...

They should make Indy 5 just to make up for this one. I still think of "The Indiana Jones Trilogy", and keep forgetting the unmemorable Crystal Skull even exists.

You know, I watched this film thing last night. 'Top 100 Adventure Films' and Indiana Jones came at Number 1. I loved how they reffered to it as the 'Indiana Jones Trilogy' completely missing out Skull, pretending it never existed.
Was this 'film thing' made within the last year?

Sign the petition to get the canceled Staff of Kings novelization published.

I probably won't read it either way, but I signed because I feel sorry for any writer who spends this amount of time on a book only for it to get cancelled at the last minute.
I did read some of MacGregor's Young Indy books as a kid, though, and they were wonderful, much better than what I saw of the TV-series.

They might not even have "pretended" to have forgotten it. It's a very forgettable film, with few memorable moments and a dull, uninspired script with few quotable lines. Spielberg apparently forgot how to "make them like he used to", which doesn't bode well for Tintin.

Shia LaBoeuf says Steven Spielberg has cracked story for another Indiana Jones and that he thinks they're "gearing that up" at the moment.

Erm.... from Shia's mouth? That's a pretty solid source of news, isn't it?
I'm quite excited by this.

I'm excited, too.
They NEED to make a fifth, to make up for the last one.

I was/am hoping for a prequel, set before KOTSC. That way, Mutt and Marion wouldn't have to be dragged along.

He said it alright. They showed the interview with him on the BBC News Channel earlier tonight.Yeah, I mean... he wouldn't say that unless he knew that something was happening, and he's practically Spielberg's adopted son! And Lizo never lies so we can be sure that Shia did say that. KOTCS did perform well, so you can see why the studio would want more...

A great Indy film can still be made, even with Ford as old as he is, there's no reason it needed to be as pedestrian as Crystal Skull was.

If they approach INDY V with a bit more care, I imagine it could turn out just fine. It's just a matter of how much they really put into it, and whether Spielberg's truly on board for the love of it. The last thing we need is another autopilot installment.

SAUCER MEN FROM MARS is, actually, considerably more inspired than what we got, even though I don't think it's perfect. It certainly reads more excitingly than what we got. That said, I don't think it would have functioned well as an end-cap for the franchise... it feels too much like an intermediary Indiana Jones adventure.Yeah I know, Lucas has been pushing the alien angle for a long while now. I know you're no fan of it Harms, but I actually would have preferred The Saucer Men from Mars script end up being the fifth film than what we got.
As I've said before, I'm more partial to CITY OF THE GODS, though. It's a script that has its own share of problems (the "best" INDY IV would probably have been a streamlined version of that screenplay, with a bit of KINGDOM's story thrown in), but it was the most successful of the available screenplays at really bringing back to the Indiana Jones-brand magic.

There are occasionally sequels so bad that they kill forever any interest I once had in a franchise, for example CRYSTAL SKULL and TERMINATOR SALVATION. Thankfully, the Bond series has never come close to delivering such horror, not even with THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. Bad as it is, TWINE still eats Grandpa Jones alive.
If the good people at Fox want to make more franchise followups, I suggest they take a look at the forthcoming DIE HARD comic, DIE HARD: YEAR ONE. Admittedly, I haven't read it or read any reviews, but the artwork I've seen is ace and the concept (McClane in 1976) intriguing. Might make a good movie. The big stumbling block, of course, is getting someone to play the young Bruce Willis, unless, of course, they could face-map the young Bruce onto the body of another actor a la Roland Kickinger as Arnie's Terminator.... which would probably be out of the question for an entire film. Imagine if they could pull off the technology, though, and do it well. Or maybe they could "de-age" Willis by means of makeup and digital FX. You could cut back and forth between the 1976 stuff and the present-day McClane narrating his origin story to his buddy Al Powell in a bar.
Rather that than more Indys, more Terminators, more Aliens and more Predators. In my book, at least.
