Indiana Jones Thread

The picture maintains the Memorial Day weekend release strategy of the last two "Indiana Jones" movies, and it mirrors the last two "Star Wars" movies and The Matrix Reloaded with its Thursday launch.

Not quite seeing the connection with Bond 22 here...
Until I saw the response (above), I thought maybe it was tied to the threads here of late regarding Sir Connery's return to his role as Indy's father (and contradicting his claim of having retired from films).
Otherwise, I dunno about what it means in terms of competition. Somewhere I recall reading that Mission Impossible III portended a sort of insurmountable standard for Casino Royale, and, in hindsight, I don't think it would have made a difference even if Casino Royale had delivered "just" a "typical" James Bond 007 film.
That said, thanks, HelllsHere, for the release date information. I may just have to see two theatrical releases next year!

No connection, except for really good competition! Indy IV is slated for a May release, while Bond 22 will premiere on November the same year. Once again, EON must exceed every expectaction and try to surpass the Indiana Jones film in terms of quality and thrills. Another Herculean task.
How so? They will be two very different films relased six months apart. The link is tenuous, to say the least.

If you assume the Indy film will be any good. I'd be more enthused about it if George Lucas had been cut out of the project altogether, but as it stands, the man who gave us Jar Jar Binks is going to have a major influence on this film.
I don't really see that EON has to compete with it at all...no, Indy has to surpass its competition, which would be the Pirates of the Caribbean movies

With many months seperating the two films, I doubt there will be much in terms of competition. Perhaps more comparison.

Looks like your beliefs have strong foundations here:

What little faith I had in this film has died.

Yes, my hopes for this film just got taken down a peg too - I have a sneaky suspicion it will be about "being a good dad since mine was never around" or something equally warm and fuzzy.

I'm just waiting for a future James Bond movie to see 007 teaming up with his son or daughter.

Contradictory statements:It seems like Shia LaBeouf has been cast as Indiana Jones' son:

And no source to boot? I'll believe it when I see him in the previews. Otherwise, I see it as nothing more than the typical Hollywood rumor-mill. Remember how many people were reported to be the next Bond, or Bond girl? Then again, how many of us heard the initial rumors about Craig and thought: "No way!" But I think the odds are in our favor.Shia LaBeouf is in final talks to star in Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones 4" as the son of the adventuresome archaeologist to be played once again by Harrison Ford.
...
Neither Par nor Lucasfilm would confirm that talks are under way with LaBeouf.

Plot point I: Indy discovers he has a son who is oh-so-feisty and insists on traveling with dad on his latest exploit.
Yadda, yadda
Act III: Indy sacrifices object of search to save son – the real prize is their relationship.
*sigh*
Familiar .

Someone not very familiar with Hollywood/film news may not know, but VARIETY is far above "typical rumor mill." They may report things without official sources, but their sources are always very good indeed. If they report it, you can safely bet that they have it right.

Quite. I'm finding it morbidly suiting that the announcement was posted to the forums by a member who call himself "Hell is here".
Next he'll tell us Jinx and Christmas Jones are back in Bond 22 to do a lesbian love scene scripted by Purvis and Wade without any help from anybody else.
(Not poking fun at our CBn mate, here. Just the message.)

Point taken. I really have very little interest in Hollywood/film news beyond what's coming out and when. I was not aware of Variety's credentials.Someone not very familiar with Hollywood/film news may not know, but VARIETY is far above "typical rumor mill." This might just about be enough to kill any anticipation I used to have for this movie.
This reeks and stinks to high heavens.
Another Jones jr....
