While it is most certainly 'a song', I don't have any feelings for it either way. Certainly the new direction, for better or worse, was better exemplified with Madonna's track.
Maybe I need to hear it wrapped around the credits visuals.
Otherwise, more 'commercial' than 'anger and attitude'.

Which one doesn't fit? You're absolutely right, they all express the same thing.
I can't believe this ... thing is written by David Arnold.
This is on the same level as Madonna's Die Another Day. The kind of song you'd play in the morning just to avoid falling asleep again.
Worst. Bond. Song. Ever.
I sure hope this isn't a sign for things to come, score-wise.

After my first listen to 'You Know My Name' I was unmoved. But by the third listen I was grooving to it. As things stand now (ten or so listens in) I am a fan of the song. It took me much longer to come around to the themes for TSWLM, MR, OP, TLD, LTK, GE, TND, TWINE and DAD. But I may change my mind again about 'You Know My Name'. One can't help one's musical tastes. They are occasionally quite fickle.

In how far is it different from all the other mindless metal songs out there?
It's nice that people like it, but it doesn't belong in a Bond film.

Then tell me what this mess does to deserve the brand "James Bond title song".

Taste is subjective, I think it's a great Bond theme, you don't. Why can't you leave it at that?

THE AURAL DEFINITION OF "MEH"
(...) the new title song that has just gone online is the aural definition of 'meh'. (...) it is performed by Chris Cornell and it is miles from the over the top ballads or electro overhauls of previous Bonds. Instead it tries to rock, but it rocks as gently as a hammock in a spring breeze with no hooks or anything approaching hummability.

Scratch that. Experience of Love might edge it a bit.

well i loved this songI can't deny that this song is lackluster - I just don't hate it. I find it catchy, and I'd take it over some of the (IMO) far worse songs in the franchise. The worst thing about it is that it feels like it should have been produced in 1997.

Too bad the last time they nailed it for a Bond theme, they stuck it at the end of the movie. Go figure!

I just can't help feeling that for a song that's supposed to have an edge, "You Know My Name" doesn't. There's no bite to the song. I applaud how upbeat and energetic the song is, but I don't think it really is a great song.well i loved this song

I think you need to like Chris Cornell and David Arnolds style to really love this song i think, which considering the amount of slander Arnold gets on this forum its no surprise that some don't like it.I just can't help feeling that for a song that's supposed to have an edge, "You Know My Name" doesn't. Overall though I must say it's really quite a miss. Too flamboyant/garish and, as someone earlier posted, it sounds like some random, bad, 80s chuck norris-esque action theme (please note i do love chuck norris however!)
>>>Here comes the craziness though! If anyone is interested I have recorded a mellower, more subtle version of 'you know my name'. (A cover already?!? I know, I know) But if you want to hear it, PM me and i'll email it to you. *Beware though there's no music on the track obviously, and also my mic stinks.*

ps. let me know what you think, both positive and negative responses welcome.

Arnold's barely touched this song, and his work on it is mixed so low, it's barely audible. Bringing out Arnold's orchestral flair would probably improve this song a great bit (in fact, I know it does, because I toyed around with the song and did it myself - the orchestra makes it feel a lot more like a Bond song than just a token rock anthem).I think you need to like Chris Cornell and David Arnolds style to really love this song i think, which considering the amount of slander Arnold gets on this forum its no surprise that some don't like it.
And I'm not familiar with Cornell's work, so I wouldn't know.

I do have to disagree that the song possesses no melody, it is in there and I find it quite appealing, but I voted for sterophonics a while back so I wouldn't be surprised if I were in the minority!

The overall tone is not suited to a bond theme, especially one for a movie which is intended to be so faithful to earlier stylings. but in a post- die another day world, I don't offer any objections to Chris Cornell's "You know my name" even if I wish it were substantially different

And Publius, edging the speed down a tad does make it sound better.
