It'll do, I suppose. Certainly takes some getting used to. I don't hate it, but I don't adore it, either. Don't like the end bit with Cornell shrieking the title over and over (it's funny, I don't mind Cornell's voice through most of it, but he seems to fall apart here), but I don't mind the chorus. I would love to hear Tom Jones perform this song, despite the questionable lyrics.
Hmm....It sounds like a speeded-up version of Spinal Tap's "Rock & Roll Creation"...
Hmmmmm.
It does occasionally sound very Tap-ish, doesn't it? Tones of "The Majesty of Rock" seem to creep in there, as well.
Yes, this is true as well. I was actually expecting/hoping for something a bit closer to Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" for the title song. Here're the lyrics to it, in case anyone's wondering:Since both Sound Garden, and Pearl Jam both come from my home town- it's pretty much the same as any other angst rock format, IMHO.
She eyes me like a pisces when I am weak
I've been locked inside your heart-shaped box for weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Your advice
Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on angel's hair and baby's breath
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Your advice

I want to like this, I really do. I had it on constantly this morning and after I while I just thought "what's that noise?". I can't hear anything catchy in it, or much melody. It is just 'meh'. I can't even bring myself to hate it, it's too boring for that. Just very MOR, very middle-aged, heavy muzak.
On the bright side, it's not as bad as DAD.

So.... is this not big enough news to make the front page? I'm a little confused.
Now I've got my hands on it, look what happens.

Maybe the final version will sound somewhat different. I'm still hoping!

Taste is subjective, I think it's a great Bond theme, you don't. Why can't you leave it at that?
Who says I can't? But this board is for discussions, and a new 007 title song is bound to create major discussions. I made two posts here, one had my opinion, the other a question, so "why can't you leave it at that?" is actually quite a word, since I didn't really say much yet.
Now, the question remains: what on good earth makes you think "it's a great Bond theme"?
It begins with the simple term "Bond THEME". It isn't much of a theme. It's not even much of a motif. All the great Bond songs have outstanding thematic quality. Die Another Day didn't have much of that, but You Know My Name surely is completely blank in this regard.
Furthermore, it lacks a good balance of dynamics. It's just one constant drone.
Then the instrumentation: I don't exactly know when, but at some point during the Brosnan era, some guy decided the signature of a Bond song is guitars. And lots of them. Tomorrow Never Dies had them, they were nice. The World Is Not Enough also had them, they were nice. Die Another Day didn't have them, but then, it wasn't much of a coherent song.
But You Know My Name overdoes it so much that it's ridiculous.
There are other things that bother me, but to nail them I'd have to listen to the song again, and frankly ... well

The tune itself, the music, is acceptable. If they tone down the ugly guitars in the film version, and play up the orchestral bits, it will work just fine.

If it's slowed down a bit and the orchestra is brought out more, it'll easily be among the better Bond themes in my opinion.

Let's see, it's a good song (for reasons I've elaborated on elsewhere here) that's better than a majority of the other Bond themes. So it's already off to a good start there. The fact that there exists no such thing as a template for Bond themes means this has the added bonus of being able to be and being very different from anything we've heard so far. There you go.
Of course this is all opinion, and as we should know by now debating opinions as if they were in any way objective is ridiculous and futile. And frankly, that seems to be even more the case with music than with things like Daniel Craig's hair and face. Perhaps it's inevitable that posters on a Bond fansite have an easier time agreeing or even agreeing to disagree on things more core to Bond (debates over darkness, realism, violence, etc.) than on more peripheral things like music, which is divisive enough ordinarily.

Well, it's been awhile since I watched it, so I'm not sure what plays over the actual titles, but it is listed first here. In any event, it's the most recognizable song from the film.

What are you talking about? YKMN blank of thematic quality? Have you read the lyrics? The song is ABOUT BOND. What is DAD about, eh?It begins with the simple term "Bond THEME". Tch! No thematic quality? Please.

Just for one example
"Hide your hand
Try to forget how to Feel"
Is this talking about:
1) The actual card game?
2) Vesper/Bond's relationship?
3) The torture scene?
4) The actual
