its like i said in a different thread, if you like Cornell you like it, if you don't you don't, i like cornell and it think this is the best Bond theme we've had but thats just my opinion.

I like Cornell, and he can certainly do better than this.

If people dont like this sort of music or Cornell's style, then they probably dont have a chance in hell of liking the song.

I dont see how anyone can be so against it, myself. I think it's pretty great. It'd be so much better if the orchestral parts were louder though.

lol, I love all the posts that are like:

"I can't imagine how people love this?"
"I can't imagine how people hate this?"

This is actually exactly what I expected. There's hardly any middle ground here. I kinda hate to say it, but it fits Casino Royale perfectly in that for most people you either love it or hate it right away, then for some of the latter it grows on you as time goes by. Initially I was indifferent. Now I like it. This has been a running theme so to speak for practically every aspect of the film from Craig, to poker, to the reboot, and finally to the theme song. "I can't imagine how people can be surprised?"

Most captivating thing I've heard out of Cornell's mouth (Can't say I liked him)

I like the layers, the subtle orchestration that you have to listen too to hear, and really enjoy the song as a song.

The fact it is so different amongst the other songs is another thing that makes it stand out for me.

It all depends on how the music makes you feel. Music is mindaltering and usually is a love it or hate it kind of thing. Either you feel it or you don't.

I like it. I wouldn't buy it. Not a fan of that style of music. But a muscular song suits a muscular Bond. Fits CR well. It works for me.

Sorry Guys,

May be you will think that I am nuts. But I prefered "Die Another Day" more than this one. At least "Die Another Day" still sound like James Bond theme.

I don't see why anyone can compare this with "A View To A Kill" and "Live and Let Die". "You Know My Name" is just an ordinary rock song.

Not going to argue that. Music isn't always as polarized as this. The was the point I was making.

I like the fact that it seems M is telling Bond of his new job, what he will have to do and if he is up to it. Bond replying with the coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name.
I love it!

I love the song now.

It is cold, it is 'The B!tch is Dead', it is fresh. It is these reasons that make it stand out for me, among with the beautiful mix of orchestra and guitar/drums (crank up the volume and you'll notice it a lot more, especially in the second verse)

I also absolutely love the line:

Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you

That, IMO, captures the feeling that 'the line' does.

I think the opening bars start with the gunbarrel just after Bond has fired.

I would tend to think as much, too.

Yeah...its a perfect fit. After the 'whoa' factor of the new/different gunbarrel, BOOM, straight into that riff. Great stuff. :)

I am amazed that anybody would call this the worst Bond song of all. I'd take it without any reservation over TMWTGG, FYEO, OP, TLD, GE, TND, and DAD

Most of those are classics, and you still hear "For Your Eyes Only" and "All Time High" played all over the world, and sometimes in the most unlikely contexts (e.g. as the opening music for an Inner Mongolia news broadcast, or as muzak in a supermarket in Kazakhstan). They've stood the test of time.

"You Know My Name", bless it, won't.

And I'd disagree that it won't affect the film. If we were talking about most films, it wouldn't, but Bond films aren't "most films", they're special cases, with their theme songs being played to death for decades. Okay, I didn't like that song over the closing credits of GOLDENEYE, can't even recall its name it's so unmemorable, but the point is that it wasn't the main one - Tina Turner's one was. Yeah, it's cheesy, it's MOR, it doesn't have an original bone in its body, and it might as well be sung by Wayne Newton in Vegas. But it works.

I don't dislike YKMN, but I understand why many do, and, no, I don't think it's exactly got Perfect Bond Song written all over it. Neither do I feel that criticisms of it should be dismissed as though we were talking about just one of many tracks on the OST of just another film. And, yes, I much prefer Madonna's "Die Another Day". Besides, knocking YKMN doesn't equate to calling for the head of Daniel Craig or saying that CR will suck because it bends the timeline, and so on.

But it's all personal taste at the end of the day. :P

Just to point out, though, I'm by no means just a fan of safe, conservative, middle-of-the-road music. I like The Fall, for heaven's sake. But I never thought the day would come when I'd think Mark E. Smith and co. could probably record a more "traditional" Bond song than the official one! :)

Well put, as always, Loomis. However, I disagree with your assumption that "You know my name" will not stand the test of time. Many people said this about "Live and let die" when it was released - and were wrong.

It all comes down to this: it was never meant to be a more "traditional" Bond song. Because "CR" is not meant to be a "traditional" Bond film. We had 20 of them. Let

That was my first thought. The mixing in this song is terrible. The song is good. They need to work on this, I hope it was leaked on its way to some big computer that'll make it sound like it wasn't recorded under water.

EDIT: i guess it could be the version i am listening too. I'd like to think i can tell the difference between a poor quality version of a song and one with poor mixing.
