I'm happy with all of them in that these DVDs are actually getting the "ultimate edition" treatment anyway.

I'm interested in the casting features we seem to be getting. Is there a chance we could be getting some never before seen screentests?

Exactly. Enough complaints about the covers already.

I'm curious as to what our own OHMSS expert Doublenaughtspy thinks about the upcoming version of the film. I know I'd love to see the screentests with Lazenby and the other potential Bonds. If EON even held on to those.

I was hoping that they would've learned from the lame artwork on the last releases but, I see they are repeating some of those mistakes...the artwork on Goldfinger, YOLT, and OHMSS could be better. I also find it annoying that they are using a Moonraker head shot for FYEO, and an Octopussy head shot for AVTAK.

During press screenings TWINE ran at 160 minutes. For general release the film was later cut down to 128 minutes.I wish they could release this longer version in the ULTIMATE EDITION DVD's.

160 mins? I never knew that. Can anyone tell me what was cut from the final print?

The film included some scenes which were later cut out or shortened for timing reasons:
Right after Bond jumps out of the Bankers office in Bilbao, the Cigar Girl comes into the Hotel Room from which Renard shot the guard. He says to her, he hopes that Bond will bring the money back.
The boat chase sequence was originally 18 minutes long.
The sequence in which King dies and Bond looks for the Cigar Girl was originally longer.
Also shortened was the scene where Bond drives through the oil fields in Azerbaijan.
While Bond is talking to Elektra her office was flown in by helicopter. It then expands to the size as it is seen in the film.

I just don't understand this new dvd release at all.

What I am waiting for now is to get a blu-ray player so I can play high resolution films with 1080 * 768, not the current release with 550 lines.

And I thought this new "ultimate" edition was for the new players Blu-ray or hd dvd, so why do they release this when the new players are 1 or 2 months befor release. ?

Okey and my last point art...........
How is it possble, just look at this!! and I thought the last cover art work.... ( I would not call it art work).

Any movieposter/movieart work collector knows that the bond films have the greatest artwork ever created for the films. So why do they not us it. ?

Are they idiots or just plain dumb. ?

Why is everyone talking Blue-Ray? I believe that HD-DVD has less compression, and therefore a better picture. The HD-DVD looks better; at least it did with the direct comparisons I saw at CES. What really blew me away was seeing the YOLT archival scan. I believe each frame of footage was scanned 100? If I remember, I was told it took a month or so to scan each film for this process. It had been prepared for a display with HD cinema projectors. Incredible.

Because Sony is the main proponent of Blu-Ray, and they own the Bond films now. Thus, if 007 hits hi def DVD it will be on BR, not HD.

I really hope this aren't Blur-Ray since I'm not planning to buy a Blu-Ray, or a HD-DVD player for that matter, anytime soon. Studios really messed around with consumers by adopting two different formats so that if you wan't to watch all the movies in the new formats you have to buy two expensive players. And besides, the first wave of Blu Ray and HD-DVD movies don't have a lot of extras. They just come with the movie basically and one or two documentaries. I guess studios are first releasing the standard editions and if they prove to be succesfull they will release the special editions later on. So that's why I'm thinking that these might be DVD's since they are special editions. Hopefullly that will be the case.

They are being planned for a release sometime in the Fall - perhaps to coincide or be relatively near the Casino Royale release. They aren't available on amazon.com yet.

Here's my review of the DVD covers.

Dr. No
Nice image of Connery, but Ursula Andress is to small making the rest of the cover look sparce.
Final Grade: B -

From Russia With Love
The best of the Connery covers, great image of Sean with the exploding helicopter and fireball creating a color scheme that compliments the FRWL logo.
Final Grade: A -

Goldfinger
Basically a weak reworking of the Special Edition cover. As with the Dr. No cover Jill Masterson need to be larger so the cover doesn't look empty,
Final Grade: C -

Thunderball
Bland cover for a bland film. Nothing screams excitement. Nothing is really bad about the cover but there's nothing great about it either.
Final Grade: C

You Only Live Twice
Connery image is recycled from the Special Edition cover with Blofeld and SPECTRE's rocket ship replacing the ninja and sunset from the previous edition. Good cover but not great.
Final Grade: B

On Her Majesty's Secret Service
What has MGM done with George Lazenby? Easy on the airbrush next time.
Final Grade: C

Diamonds Are Forever
Any cover that has a red or orange color scheme looks good as it matches the logos and makes the image pop out, as it does here. Cover perfectly captures the tackiness that is DAF.
Final Grade: B +

Live and Let Die
The sacrifice scene works very well as a background as it blends in with the logo on top and Roger Moore looks like he's ready for action in a shot I can't recall ever seeing before.
Final Grade: B

The Man With The Golden Gum
The best Roger Moore cover and my personal favorite of the Ultimate Editions. The cool blue background makes everything stand out and the main image of Roger is especially good with bonus points for having the explosion of the solar panel reflect off of Rogers left side. Throw in Scaramanga about to shot Bond in the back of the head and you have yourself a great cover.
Final Grade: A

The Spy Who Loved Me
A blue background worked for TMWTGG but here it doesn't. Roger looks good but Anya should have been somewhere on the main section of the cover instead of hidden behind the 007 logo.
Final Grade: C

Moonraker
Just flat out boring and ugly. There should have been an orange color scheme to match the explosion of the space station, and where's the Moonraker shuttle?
Final Grade: D

For Your Eyes Only
The last time I watch the film Roger didn't look anything like that. A completely uninspired cover although a bit better then Moonraker.
Final Grade: C -

Octopussy
This cover fails in capturing the color and exoticness of Ocotpussy. Plus we have Roger Moore sporting his beehive hairdo. Roger looks good in some scenes, they should have used some of those shots.
Final Grade: C

A View To A Kill
Slightly better then Octopussy but it also lacks color, and then main shot of Roger isn't even from AVTAK but that's actually I good thing.
Final Grade: C

The Living Daylights
A bit too photo shopped, the explosion and the desert background don

...Die Another Day
Nice shot of Brosnan but what is up with Halle Berry. Looks like she's had more work done then Joan Rivers. There's some things you just don't have to photoshop. Halle Berry is one of theme. The rest of the background is rather empty which only makes Franken-Berry more obvious.
Final Grade: C

I agree. Don't know if anyone else has noticed or not, but in the image of all the DVDs and the case, the DAD cover looks slightly different (and less butchered). Looks like for the final version they swapped Halle's head and brought out the color in her swim suit (so that it looks less like her flesh tone).

Head-swapping really irks me. It never looks right, this being a prime example. They definitely did too much computer meddling with this cover, but hey, I guess it's rather fitting for the film...

But on a positive note, I do like the way she and Ursula kind of "bookend" the covers visually.

I love the new The World Is Not Enough cover! By far the best of the Brosnan DVD covers. I'm also quite fond of the From Russia With Love, Thunderball, The Man With The Golden Gun, Moonraker, Octopussy, and Tomorrow Never Dies covers.

Once again, it seems like they missed out on the The Spy Who Loved Me cover. It's a Bond film that literally screams 'BIG' and 'BEYOND,' but the DVD cover just doesn't show it.

I am kind of dissapointed with the poor cover art (I feel the last DVD set had better artwork,) but since these are newly restored and remastered "Ultimate Edition" DVDs, the content is all that really matters. What I'm wondering is what will they do to top the previous DVD menus? They were PERFECT!

Good question. I did love nearly all of those.

On another note...

Interesting that ChoicesDirect lists Tomorrow Never Dies as having a '15' certificate, yet no 'Uncut' on the cover. Amazon.co.uk lists it as still having the '12'.

We'll have to watch that one...

The Special Features for TND, TWINE, and DAD suck! No new making of or any real behind the scenes stuff. It looks like the same stuff plus any promo material they have lying around.
