Short, blonde, doughy and non-smoking.

I just cannot find that exact description from Fleming in any of the books.

Would make a good villain, though.

See signature.

Even though I have to put up with him he's not truly James Bond.

Since when is 6 feet tall considered 'short'? 'Doughy'? Have you see 'Layer Cake'? The dude is ripped!

Well maybe if he REALLY was 6 feet then he would be tall enough.

Numerous reports all over confirm he is about 5-9 or 5-10. I really am dismayed how people can take imdb or an Eon press conference and say the height they gave was accurate.

In fact they even claimed Craig was as tall as Connery.

Excuse me but I literally fell out of my chair laughing on that one. I once met Adrien Brody, he's listed at 6-1 but he's actually about 5-11, he towers over Craig in the movie The Jacket.

Brosnan is not 6-2 he's really about 6 feet (well known FACT) even Eon says he is 6 feet, they even say it.

Now look at the image of Pierce next to Craig and tell me Craig is 6 feet, he's about 5-10.

As for his looks, first Bond ever that was not handsome, in fact first Bond ever that is actually a bit homely. Daniel Craig is only making one Bond film.

Is there anything original to this thread? What contribution exactly is the original posting making to existing discussions? It's mewling on about a moot point. I doubt you were ever for his casting to begin with since you're now against it within 36 hours of him being announced!

Craig is Bond now. Stop whining and move on.

Just finnished Layer Cake. I think Mr. Craig will be interesting, if anything else.I'm now more concerned about the script/director getting it right.Craig will be a kick #@$ Bond if the material allows it to happen.

I love how everyone here is for "freedom of speech"...uhm, that is, until someone is saying something you don't like.

Some people feel Daniel Craig is an ENORMOUS MISTAKE for this franchise and they should have the right to voice their opinions without others asking the staff to close a thread down. If you don't like what they're saying, then don't add to the thread, just let it die a natural death.

...You know, like the Bond series in 2006.

Ouch.

I know the series dying in 2006 isn't very likely even if CR totally bombs, but I really hope that isn't the case.

But I do honestly think that Craig is worth a 25% drop in box office totals from DAD to CR. Time will tell (and I'd love to be wrong)....

I don't really think the series will die that easily either - I was just exaggerating for effect, or a cheap joke. But I do believe they are making the exact same mistake they made with Dalton: mainstream audiences don't go to Bond films to see "gritty reality", they go to escape reality and watch one very very cool and sophisticated man save the world and get the girl.

Why is that so hard for them to understand??

DAD didn't suck because it was fantasy, it sucked because it was lazy, sloppy, utterly wit-free & brainless, and cut with a meat axe!

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater...

Oops, too late. Now we get the grim Mickey Spillane melodrama with the gruesome torture scene and loss of yet another woman he cares about.

Fun fun fun. :)

As far as height is concerned, some say Fleming's Bond was 6 feet tall. Maybe, but it was half a century ago, and at that time 6 feet sounded taller than nowadays. Whatismore, a lot of the things Fleming wrote would not work on the silverscreen. For example, had the producers casted someone with a broken nose as Honey, it would have been disastrous for Dr No (although the bikini was not necessary, I think). Unfortunately, to be physically imposing, Bond actor has to be tall.
But, of course, photography can make him look tall. Many actors like Tom Cruise, or Mel Gibson are short but this hasn't prevented them from having a big career. If one has the personality, height should never be a problem (that's why what they said about Ewan was nonsense). The problem with Craig is that he seems to have other flaws as well, and these allow the height issue to emerge.

Umm..my mistake maybe I should have posted this in the anti-Craig forum. I didn't because I'm not exactly anti-Craig but whatever.

It is anweb forum dedicated to the discussion of James Bond, I'll say whetever the hell I want. Don't read it and reply if you don't like it.

I am not going to be a Kool Aid drinker and think Craig's the greatest thing since sliced Wonder bread just because he's what was offered up by Bab's and Mikey. I just truly think the man is miscast but maybe he'll prove me totally wrong. I am seeing CR the first night it's out and then I'll ultimately decide.

You're right I never really was in favor of Craig. I made it very clear that there were several others who I thought would be better choices. I tried being a good company man and being excited about him but I was just lying to myself. I can't find anything Bondian about him, try as I might. I will try to stay open minded about CR but it's going to take an awful lot for me to see him as Bond.

Well here you are all on the Anti-Craig brigade since the threads have been merged.
now no, please take a moment to read and verify, and we aren't AT ALL carrying negative discussions. We're having fun most of the time... and just because we think Craig is wrong it doesn't mean we're negative.
in fact, I have had the hardest laughs these days by reading and replying to comments on this thread.
So please.. enjoy. and welcome everyone. :)

Well, Welshcat, this is the anti-Craig thread. And we were talking about Bond 22. Do you really think Ale would get Craig for Bond in 22? I don't think so.
She would not look too bad with Jackman, would she? (That is, of course, if she passes Seanerry's "screentest").

View Post

Agghh! Why don't you leave me in my misery, wallowing in her defeat for a while? You have to bring her name into it? My beautiful, all-time favourite tennis player. :)

Seriously, please try to pick someone else!! :)

Back to topic. Welsh, smile dear and make your choice. :)
I must give Seannery the updated list of Bond girl candidates! :)

View Post

Yeah, thanks, A ... just... leave her out for the moment thanks, if you don't mind. Tell him to go with Kournikova or someone else.

PS - it was the way she lost - and has been losing of late! :)

Maybe she'll have better luck on my mobile phone game of her.

View Post

LOL Ok now, let's get back on track with the anti-craig brigade.
now Welsh... I told you, I am a supporter of Safin.. now THAT is a rollercoaster and a heartbreaker at times..but Sharapova?? she wins most of the time, and you feel depress because A FEW TIMES she loses badly??
come ooon!! smile!!! be happy!!! :)
Meantime we'll settle for Kournikova as Bond girl in Bond 22. Seannery that ok with you? she'll be taken only if she's ok FOR YOU clearly.
Hugh (Jackman) is of course Bond, since Seannery and I have already agreed on this, so no prob with height of girl, since Hugh is some 6 ft 3 or more and won't need a chair like Craig to kiss her! lol :)

Nothing against Craig as a actor but he is,at best,a average looking guy ( I am trying to be kind)
Totally wrong for Bond-the producers must be crazy picking this guy.He has no sex appeal or charisma.
If EON wanted to allienate a lot of fans they could not have done it beter.I have been a Bond fan for 30 years but I wont be going to see CR because Craig does not look right.A ugly Bond ? come on it just does not make sense.

He also seems physically slight and it will take a lot of good acting for me to believe the guy can look convincing in a fight scene.

RIP Commander Bond lets hope craig only stays for one and we can get someone tall.dark and handsome next time.

Craig was not my first choice either. But he's the guy now. Move on. I have a hunch that he is going to surprise a lot of the naysayers with the performance he gives.

For those who think he will be out after one or two movies, I have 2 words for you: Roger Moore. Rog didn't begin to hit his stride until his 3rd Bond movie. Craig will be around for at least 3 movies. The anti-Craig brigade will just have to deal with it.
