I was trying to find some sort of news on that Angelina Jolie rumour, and instead as front article on msnbc entertainment page I found this:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9546090/

it had nothing new in the criticism.. but as you can note, CBn is quoted in the story!.. can't remember whose post that was honestly. obviously the writer hasn't taken the disturb to read all of this forum, where the majority is clearly PRO Craig....
Anyway, just found the reference funny. :)

View Post

Jolie would be an even bigger mistake than Craig. The contrast would be waaay too great. Craig needs someone who'll make him look good. I nominate Dame Judi as Sylvia Dench? :)

View Post

LMAO Welsh :)
definitely agree that Jolie would be a far worse mistake than Craig. No way a woman who portrays Vesper well can make him look good.. although Dench... LOL :)
Otherwise, it should just be me... then it's guaranteed that the attention will all be on him!! :)

"Stunt" casting works if the director gets a good performance out of the actor/actress (IMO, Tamahori let Halle Berry's performance in DAD go all over the place).

If cast as Vesper, Angelina may have to cover some of her "Gnarlier Tatts"...

Ale, damn you if you're ever cast as Vesper. I'll NEVER be able to take a date to CR; they'll KNOW who I'll be looking at (not Dame Judi)... :)

HELLO FELLOW BOND LOVERS:
I AM WITH THE MAJORITY OF YOU WHO CAN NOT BELIEVE THE CHOICE THEY HAVE MADE FOR THE NEW FILM. I AM 38 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THE BOND FILMS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND I AM JUST SO PISSED. I THOUGHT THAT BROSNAN WAS THE BEST PERSON TO PLAY BOND SINCE SIR RODGER MOORE. I WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD HAVE PAID THE MAN WHAT HE WANTED AND BE DONE WITH IT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS CRAIG GUY AND I HAVE TO SAY I JUST MIGHT NOT SEE THE MOVIE. I DO HAVE A DIFFERENT TAKE ON THE CHOICE HOWEVER SO INDULDGE ME. AS BLACK MAN I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND A QUALITY BROTHER TO PLAY THE PART SUCH AS DJIMON HONSHU (PROBABLY SPELLED IT WRONG. THE GUY IS GOOD LOOKING, HAS QUALITY MOVIES BEHIND HIM (AMSITAD) AND I THINK COULD DO THE ROLE JUSTICE. AS WE ALL KNOW THERE ARE MANY BLACKS IN ENGLAND (BEEN THERE MANY TIMES MYSELF)AND I AM INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT OTHERS THINK OF MY IDEA.

Hi Dmaninmoval! welcome :)
well, I've been saying for a loooong while that I would have LOVED to see Denzel Washington portray Bond if they wanted to go for a radical change...(now he's too old.. but he would've been AWESOME a while ago I think).
I actually think also Isaiah Washington would be very good (he's the guy who portrays Dr. Burke in "Grey's Anatomy".). And maybe also that other guy (damn, can't remember his name) who is the protagonist of "kevin hill" (is he the guy you were referring to??)
There was a specific thread about a month ago on CBn which was entitled "time for a black Bond"? so I'm sorry you missed it, you would've probably liked it! :)
this said, yes I loved Brosnan in the part... and no, we're not sold with Craig on this thread (although there are also people who post on this thread who are ok with Craig, and they are more than welcome to be here, since what we want to do most on the thread is HAVE FUN! and take a sarcastic, rather than destroying, look at the Craig choice). :)
I don't see Craig as Bond either for a bunch of reasons... and I see Angelina Jolie as Bond girl as a FAR WORSE choice than Craig!! lol :)
hope you enjoy the humour and have fun on here!

Congratulations, on joining us.

Some of the casting choices you mention could be very different and exciting.

In both the jettisoning of Brosnan, and in the selection of Craig ( who will be fine), "business" won out over "very different and exciting".

Cheers.

Now you don't know that for sure. Tony might have the same chemistry with Sylvia Dench that Connery had with her at the Casino table. She might even surprise him in his room wearing one of his shirts.

Perhaps he'll say "Immediately. Almost Immediately."

Or he'll say "Immediately... Get me out of here NOW!!!" :)

View Post

LOL. Okay, but...

Let's just try and keep it inside this thread and I ask some of you more seasoned "Breakfast clubbers" to haze these new arrivals just a bit. Remember, this is a James Bond fan forums, the best on then net, where the sharpest and the smartest Bond fans and experts come to talk about all things 007. I see you guys cheering your numbers with each new arrival. But can these new members talk about Bond outside of their dislike for Craig? Do they even want to? Do you? :)

Help us out a bit. Lower the volume. Challenge these new memebers, and each other, to do more than just agree with you.

View Post

With regard to CBn's being the best Bond forum on the net, that is an unassailable point, and I agree that, most certainly we all must respect that, and not allow our emotions to carry us away.

I regret having joined at the particular time which I did, because I do wish to emphasize that I did not join simply to vent my disappointment and frustration with the naming of Daniel Craig as the new Bond. I do belong to two other Bond forums, but the level of intensity there was simply not as high on those most crucial days of the Bond franchise.

Do I wish to discuss Bond in the months to come? You bet I do.

Can I talk knowledgeably about Bond regarding matters other than Daniel Craig? Yes, reasonably regarding Sean Connery, and in great depth, regarding Timothy Dalton -- as, witness, my choice of name!

View Post

And we'll help you out with the rest. I'm very knowledgeable about all things Bond... except of course, for all those hundreds of members here who know more than me! :)

Why are the risks associated with actors? If some people got their way, Tim Dalton could of been used as a very different kind of Bond, more laughs, less intensity, there were alot of debates about the direction to go, Dalton said at the bafta awards in 2002. You can put Brosnan in a risky and gritty film, heck even Roger Moore looked awesome and Dalton like when he killed in cold blood by knocking the man's car over the cliff in for your eyes only, Roger said "I'm not sure if that's my bond's cup of tea for the audience!" It can be done. I thought Roger could of been even more violent, heck I could see Roger Moore in licence to kill, imagine if they filmed licence to kill when Roger was younger, Roger has always said he wished he could play a villian or something else, there was a meaness he rarely showed, I could see him smoking a cigar, and then dropping Crest in the shark tank in Licence to kill, you earnt it, YOU KEEP IT OLD BUDDY!

Perception is everything, don't get brainwashed from the scripts Brosnan got, if you remember the scene in TND where he the other spy says "I'm just a professional doing my job."

Then Brosnan says "So I'm I."

Perfect, that's the gritty tone Brosnan could do for a whole film, a silent intensity, quiet but dangerous, imagine a script tailored to that brosnan scene for a whole film!

So they are getting Paul Haggis to polish up the bond character for Casino Royale, why didn't they get class writers to do a polish on TWINE AND DAD??????? It was all producer/studio driven those scripts, product placments, halle berries, and denise richards.

Hiring Brosnan or Jackman isn't just business, it can be risky, it can be gritty and taking risks, at the same time it can deliver a good bond film also. Don't let what EON decided to do with the brosnan films actually reflect on the actor, I swear I could write better scripts then they did on that.Even Dalton would look hollow with a script like DAD.

Jolie would be an even bigger mistake than Craig. The contrast would be waaay too great. Craig needs someone who'll make him look good. I nominate Dame Judi as Sylvia Dench? :)

LMAO Welsh :)
definitely agree that Jolie would be a far worse mistake than Craig. No way a woman who portrays Vesper well can make him look good.. although Dench... LOL :)
Otherwise, it should just be me... then it's guaranteed that the attention will all be on him!! :)

Awww. I'm sure you can't be THAT bad! lol.

But then again... that's what they said about old Danny boy here! :) j/k

I haven't seen your pictures, so I wouldn't be able to say... unless that pic in this thread of that bearded man with the ferret on his head was secretly you? :)

lol HELL NO! lol :)
I'm on the CBn photo album.. and no, I won't post a picture of myself on this thread! only Daniel Craig here LOL :)

Ok, well I went and checked. I looked at your pics carefully, and then after about 10 mins realised it was actually zencat! Silly me! :) :D

Seriously though - they're not so bad. Cute photo of you and your friend in that swimming pool being terrorised by the villain from "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (the one dressed like a fisherman who's casting an ominous shadow). You don't seem all that afraid. Perhaps because the two of you were pooling your resources? :D

that wasn't a swimming pool! that was the seaside in Formentera! the sea is so outstanding there that it actually looks like a swimming pool, but it's sea, with more or less the same colours as the Caribbean. :)
ahahah of course I am not afraid!! nothing can scare me! (except snakes and guns lol :)).
poor guy taking pic wasn't dressed like a fisherman, but the shadow of him holding the camera surely looks weird!! lol :)
I was distracted by his good looks actually :)

I had missed this interesting piece of discussion....
now. I do think it's up to the actor to make the audience "suck up" a script even if it's bad, but there's a limit to it.
I do agree that anyone would have looked bad in DAD, because the entire conception of the movie was simply over the line.
And I also believe they did their best to make Pierce look at his worst in the movie. He did "laws of attraction" afterwards, and looks far better and much younger and fascinating in that one rather than in Bond. And without a tuxedo. Which means they really didn't work as much as they ought to in order to deliver the best they could with DAD.
And yet, it was a record box office income.
What's the lesson behind this? that this concept of the public liking grittier, darker movies doesn't always work. And that you don't necessarily need a good movie to do well at the box office. And you don't even need a Shakespeare-trained actor.
But you DO need an actor whom the "general public" likes.
To me it seems, at least. :)
