Sean Connery is the best. His wit, humor, dryness, and style were a perfect mix. They defined the Bond franchise. Pierce is a very close second. He made the Bond character his own. He did not try to copy any of Connery's acts. His originality was great. Dalton's rough, tough, sadistic character brought a great brutish side to Bond. He is third. Moore was ok. He made to many wisecracks that ruined the moment, but he had many good moments to help compensate. Aah, Lazenby. He tried to copy Connery identically, and you can't blame him, but he wasn't creative. He did bring a good sensitive side to Bond and showed signs of greatness. He got a raw deal when Sean came back.

I like them all equally, we havnt had a bad Bond yet. But I guess I have to vote for Connery for setting the standard. Though Moore was the one I grew up watching on TV, Dalton was Bond when I first was old enough to start really getting into the movies and Brosnan is the Bond of my generation. And I think Lazenby had the potential to be the best.

Since we have a thread about bond off screen. what about on?

I think Dalton was pretty good, but Conery ties with him. Conery was awsome, Moore was excellent, but not as good as above

Lazenby stunk.

None of the above. I like Q! However, I voted for the lucky Irishman, Pierce Brosnan. I watched Taffin recently (the Brosnan Bond film they never made) and realized why I like him so much. I mean come on. Well dang it, I was gonna post a Taffin era picture and can't find one. This sux!

Personally, I am shocked that Brosnan has fared so poorly on this poll...I mean, Connery is obviously #1...but I think of Brosnan as #2, Dalton as #3, Moore as #4, and Lazenby as #5 - not a slam against Lazenby, as I love him, too (especially in Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.!!!)...Brosnan is better than the scripts that are written for him, and he deserves his just due. Hopefully he gets it in a good script for...hmmm...a little known, little debated project called Casino Royale.

But, nevertheless, I picked Connery...of course, as there is no question as to if he is the best or not.

Give me a break - who else gets away with that line?

#1 Connery to #5 Lazenby(Sorry George, would have been higher up on the list if did more than one movie.)

Roger, of course, is number one.
Connery and Pierce fall slightly behind.
Dalton was highly underrated-liked him a lot but not quite as much as the other three.
Lazenby is something of a mystery: one movie isn't really enough to judge.

First of all, I think we all know who my favorite is going to be: Timothy Dalton.

Second of all, having just got done watching Die Another Day for the first time in a while, I've got some good news for George Lazenby. YOU'VE MOVED UP A SPOT!

My list now reads:
1. Timothy Dalton
2. Sean Connery
3. Roger Moore
4. George Lazenby
5. Pierce Brosnan

Like I said, I just got done watching DAD again, and I have to say that I never noticed how wimpy a performance that Brosnan gave in that film. It was downrigh pathetic, and it has moved him down a spot on my list. Congrats to Lazenby, however. :)

Still, Roger is up there with Sean. :)

I think the balance would be different if it was a points based system, i.e. rank the actors by preference, or select the top three. Brosnan and Dalton would no doubt be closer to Connery and Moore that way.

Maybe if you watch TLD then you'll have a better understanding why Dalton is more popular than Brosnan.

Yes, maybe :) I think that both Dalton and Brosnan are no rivals to Connery and Moore. Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan are mainly "personal" Bonds which I mainly dislike.

SEAN CONNERY WAS THE BEST

THEN PIERCE BROSNAN VERY CLOSE TO HIM

I LIKED TO MUCH GEORGE LAZENBY, BUT ONE MOVIE IS NOT TO MUCH

I GREW IN THE ROGER MOORE'S ERA, AND I CONSIDERED HIM THE BEST, THEN I GREW UP AND CHANGED MY OPINION

TIMOTHY DALTON, WAS VERY GOOD, GREAT ACTOR AND HE GAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE HERO, BUT MAYBE TOO MUCH, CONSIDERING HE BECAME JAMES BOND AFTER ROGER MOORE'S ERA.

Mines is Dalton all the way, however, I find Roger Moore's movies to be continuously enjoyable. He doesn't seem very credible as a secret agent that often (with the exception of FYEO,) but he did make the Bond movies enjoyable for 12 years.

My personal favorite is Timothy Dalton. I don't consider myself an Ian Fleming purist but when I read his books I picture Dalton , front and center.

The man who Ian Fleming describes in his books.
And at the same time the older man John Gardner describes in his books.
