Dalton. However, Connery is who sticks in my mind when I read the books.

I can't imagine Bond without seeing early Connery and that smile that's almost a smirk as he lights his cigarette and we first hear the words "Bond, James Bond".

OK so my first Bond film was Moonraker... I still like Sean best. Pierce is coming on strong though. He's a convincing Bond. Something about the suits always bothered me with Roger. A bit hoaky even though that's how Bond got started for me.

Now if the book Bond could come off the pages he would kick all of their pansy actor a@@es.

This is how I think it is:

1. Pierce Brosnan - Has the looks, the temper, the Bond sense. A mixture of Roger Moore and Sean Connery
2. Sean Connery- The Golden oldie with the icecold soul. He's cool
3. Roger Moore - A little too funny for Bond but it works. He isn't that funny in For Your Eyes Only and it is that's why FYEO is my favourite Bond movie.
4. Timothy Dalton - He's the most Fleming-esque Bond together with Connery. But he doesn't look like that Bond I has in my mind when I read the books
5. George Lazenby - OHMSS was a great movie, completley brillaint but Lazenby didn't had time to show us that he was a worthy Bond. But he was great in the fight scenes

In your opinion. Even if Connery wasn't Bond, I still think Bond would be here today.

now that i have read some of the books Roger is on the bottom of my list...Hes had his great moment here and there and TSWLM and LALD were great films but after that he made bond to arrogant and cocky and he was too comical....you couldnt really take bond seriously when he had the role. I appreaciate Daltons depiction of Bond but is still think he lacked the charm. Connery had it all. Pierce is almost there but after GE the plots and the scrip writing went down hill.

If I may ask: what did you read/interpret from the books that made you change your view on Moore. If anything, Moore is the truest form of the English spy of the novels, who wasn't as rugged As Connery can be.

I read the first four novels so far and the bond that i interpreted wasnt as witty. The bond i picked up on was more of a sadist and i dont think Roger got that part of the role completly or at all.

Ah, alright. I'll respect your opinion on that. Just the way people read Bond, and interpret the actors differently.

I've gotta go with the guy in the books. No matter who is picked as a Bond actor no one can beat the guy your own imagination creates. Not to mention none of the actors quite became the "Blunt Instrument" that Fleming made. Don't get me wrong, I love the movies and Sean is a close second for me. But you can't beat Fleming's original.

I had to pick Dalton, but the guy in my head when I read the books was a close 2nd :)

Same here
-------------------
Dalton's my fav, but the books bond does make a close second, they are quite alike, Dalton being - in my opinion - the mocst like the book character.

I agree with that as well

I think GE was a classic, but at the same time, halo kills - bit of accidental humor there - compared to it

Pierce Brosnan. He was the first Bond I ever saw and his movies were the first James Bond films I saw... so that's probaly the reason. I grew up with his James Bond films.I love his acting and all of his movies. I really hope he does a fifth one.

Then I saw Sean Connery and really liked his portrayol of Bond and since he was the first one he set the standards for other Bonds.

My order is:

1) Pierce Brosnan
2) Sean Connery
3) Roger Moore
4) Timothy Dalton
5) George Lazenby

1. Moore
2. Connery
3. Brosnan
4. Dalton
5. Lazenby

As for who I picture in my head when I am reading the books, that usually doesn't work for me. I usually just picture one of the actors who has played Bond and go from there (Note: I don't take the time out to actually think of the actor who I would like to see in the story, it just happens). For the books I have read so far, here is who I have pictured.

Casino Royale -- Pierce Brosnan (Ironic huh?)
Live and Let Die -- Roger Moore
Moonraker -- Pierce Brosnan
Diamonds are Forever -- Sean Connery
From Russia With Love -- (Two Actually) Timothy Dalton and Sean Connery (Not sure how that happened)
Dr. No -- (Two again) Connery and Brosnan

I like all of them. They all represent different facets of Bond's personality, and they all get the character right in their own ways. But if I had to pick one, I'd choose Brosnan simply because, having been given the gift of hindsight, he's able to combine the best aspects of all the portrayals (Connery's ruggedness, Moore's charm, and Dalton's ruthlessness) into one very real, very compelling Bond. My list would look like this:

1. Pierce Brosnan
2. Sean Connery
3. Roger Moore
4. Timothy Dalton
5. George Lazenby

However, for all of Brosnan's charms, he's lacking some of the humanity that Connery and Moore brought to the screen, and he can sometimes be difficult to relate to. Which is why I think that if he's given a good story and a good director to work with, McGregor could be the best Bond yet (assuming he's picked).

Thought I might add this:

"Roger plays Bond his way and I play him my way. One newspaper ran a comparison and was particularly flattering to me and unjust to Roger. I don't appreciate that kind of flattery."

- Sean Connery, 1983

not really because a crap load of first person shooters came out after GE like Perfect Dark but GE was still considered the best until halo came out. I think that GERA will give Halo 2 a run for its money but halo2 will win overall.
