You Know My Name

Such a great chorus, upbeat nature. The song also has a meaning behind it also, for once.

I agree. And for once it's in a style I listen to on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, I love a good number of the James Bond title songs, it's just that none of them fit into any of my playlists (except my "James Bond title songs" playlist, of course). "You Know My Name" is the only one that fits into several of my normal listening playlists.

And it's just an all around awesome song.

I can't say I loved it when I first saw the film, but since then, it has grown on me considerably and I love it now. But I voted for Garbage. That song just rocks!

This question is easy to answer:

"Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon.

It looks like most of us agree on that.

Y'know, I'd have to say "The World Is Not Enough" by Garbage is probably my favorite Bond title prior to "You Know My Name." It's just so. . . something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the song is fantastic. I think it's quintessentially Bond. What's frustrating is I can't seem to get it into my mind right now. Maybe because my iPod's still on "For Your Eyes Only." That's seven songs and thirty minutes until Garbage. . . though I think I'm about to skip "All Time High."

Mmm. . . I do enjoy that song.

Is there a thread about songs we didn't like?

Although not a main title song, We Have All The Time in the World is of need of mentioning. It is absolutely beautiful. Would suit as a hauntingly ironic funeral song, or a glorius wedding song.

Agreed, I want that playing at my Funeral.

I'm tied between YKMN and OHMSS' John Barry Orchestra! I love them both. Both are fantasic songs and are worthy of an equal score. But if I had to choose I'd probably pick.... OHMSS.

There are so many things in the world of Bond, it is extrememly difficult to slim it down to just one favourite. I adore You Know My Name and a few others, but other songs need recognition also.

Live and Let Die has rocketed to my number 1. It was my #2 with YKMN top for so long, but LALD is legendary. Cornell tried to emulate this song, a song that stood the test of time. The song was perfect for the debut Moore film, and it is used throughout the film. McCartney's vocals on this track are magic.

The song is so simple. Hardly any singing it in at all. I love instrumentals in songs, and this song has a killer tune throughout.

The song incorporates so many moods of Bond in it. Romance of the calm unforgettable opening piano opening of - "When you were young, and your heart was an open book..." to the raw threatening violence tone of the main theme.

One can only 'imagine' what John Lennon could and would of mustered :cooltongue:

Ok. I have so many favorites! I voted for Moonraker though! Just because it's one of the underrated ones of the series I think. It's not loud and over the top, which is really cool. Plus Shirley Bassey.
I read it was originally written for Johnny Mathis!!!

Anyway. It's odd that the most over the top Bond film has one of the subtle theme songs?

It's a really close one for me. The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, A View to a Kill and Nobody Does it Better are all great songs. I'll have to go with Carly Simon though.

You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra for me. It's sung beautifully and his this 'Bondness' about it, the best Bond song in my view. You Know My name is a close 2nd.

The Living Daylights is my one of all time favs. Its a nice blend of orchestra, synthesisers, and vocals. Barry did amazing with this piece.

View Post

I think it would be nice if they could bring John Barry back. Other than "Goldeneye", we haven't had a good theme song since Barry left the franchise. It would be great if he came back and gave us more theme songs along the lines of "The Living Daylights" for a few films. It would be a nice contrast to the mediocre "The World Is Not Enough" and the horrid "Tomorrow Never Dies" and the downright awful "Die Another Day" theme songs we have been subjected to since Arnold took over.

I agree! The living daylights is probably the last decent Bond song (although LTK and CR are very good). The instrumental arrangement of LTD works so well in the film to. The songs for the Brosnan era were dire. The series really has lost its musical credibility regarding its title songs!

I find I like most of the Brosnan titles, except Die Another Day, I think both Garbage and Sheryl Crow did a great job. Goldeneye was alright.

Though I voted for You Know My Name, I do also love Live and Let Die, as well as A View To A Kill. Now my Lulu loving soul finds The Man With The Golden Gun a guilty pleasure. However, that sort of reprise at the end of the movie . . . Bad Lulu! Bad! That part makes me cringe.

I love On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It's only music, but it's so good that I don't care.
I also like A View To A Kill, because it was made by Duran-Duran.

I choose the Die Another Day soundtrack, Well, the song was co-written and co-produced by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzai in the key of C minor with string arrangements written by Michel Colombier. The single spent 11 weeks at number one on the United States Billboard Singles Sales Charts and is her most successful title on the sales chart to date. Die Another Day was the most successful Bond theme-song since the 1980s. Critical opinion of the song widely varies as evidenced by the fact that it was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song as well as for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song in 2002.In an official MORI poll in the UK for the Channel 4 program James Bond's Greatest Hits, the song was voted 9th most popular James Bond theme by the general public. Those polled ages 24 and under voted it their number 1 favourite Bond song. Incidentally, while Die Another Day, the film, marked the 40th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, Die Another Day, the single, marked Madonna's 20th anniversary in the music business; Madonna's first single, "Everybody", had been released in October of 1982.
Ohh bytheway I remember this one, if you have the time, please do watch my first music video on youtube. Just search for 123 by Junior Kilat. we the Students and graduates of the IAFT made it. Feel free to post comments as well. I’d be happy to see what you think of it. Thanks in advance guys...
