I voted and said Live and Let Die but I really love the Living Daylights a lot.

I think You Only Live Twice is such a beautiful song.  But I went with All Time High.  I just love the way that theme plays through the movie.

Shame Another Way to Die is getting no love, its not the worst by any means and is a good enough tune in it's own right. Should Skyfall be added to the poll? It was very well received might attract some votes though not mine, for me it'd be You Know My Name as it was the perfect combination of orchestral and rock that signalled that Casino Royale would be similar yet new at the same time. Also it's one of the few (Another Way to Die being another now we're at it) songs in the run that I enjoy actually just as a song and not just as the theme to a Bond movie.

My favorite thing about Bond songs is that they are the themes in the movies.

I have always loved that too! I watched the Man with the Golden Gun yesterday and I was listening to the lyrics and it was dead on describing Scaramanga. I had never really listened that intensely before but I actually was like "wow this describes this entire movie"

I voted Goldfinger, it's still such a great title song, one of the best moviesongs ever!

I also think that the JB theme actualy doesn't count as a title song for Dr. No, it's not a song (duh!) and it was only partly used for the titles.

My top Bond song is Goldeneye. The perfect Bond tune above many fine themes. The line "see him move through smoke and mirrors" brings a tingle through me everytime. Tina Turner has never sounded better and thats saying something. Others are Skyfall, Moonraker, Live and let die, Diamond are forever. The only real turkey is The man with the golden gun. A combination of terrible lyrics and Lulu,s screeching.

Totally agree HoneyDiamond - the best examples of this I feel are, as you say, 'All Time High' but also 'The Living Daylights' for one and 'You Know My Name'.

Brilliant songs used again and again in various ways that never get boring.

Good point. The Calypso "Three Blind Mice" properly qualifies as the title song.

Live and Let Die does it for me: upbeat, punchy, with the right touch of menace. The lyrics even suggest an almost flippant attitude towards death, which personifies Roger Moore's Bond perfectly. On top of that, George Harrison's use and variations of the theme is beautifully and masterfully interwoven throughout the score.

I LOVE OHMSS and hope to have another instrumental Bond theme some time in the future. Big brass and upbeat rhythm driving this force of a song... awesome.

I agree 100% but I think you meant George Martin... :P

Hi everyone! I'm glad I found this topic because I'm in a bit of trouble. I'm writting an essay on Casino Royale and I'm talking about You Know My Name. The thing is, I remember watching a small (a few seconds long) interview, or response, of Chris Cornell about making the music for CR. I just can't remember if it was on youtube or on the CR DVD extras. I have 2 special DVD editions and I've tried to look for it in both but can't seem to find. And youtube can be picky because I remember I stumbled upon it also by chance.

Does someone remember this and knows where it's from? Thank you in advance...and of course you already figured what theme is my favourite. Can't wait to know who's singing the next one!

;)

Maybe a bit of an out-of-the-box choice, but I absolutely love "I'll Take It All" by Joss Stone & Dave Stewart, which was the theme to the Blood Stone video game.

Movie wise, I've always had a soft spot for the TWINE theme, so I voted for that, though TSWLM comes in at a very close second.

Time for a new list:

1. The James Bond Theme (okay, that´s unfair; if it had been about songs, DR.NO´s "Underneath the Mango Tree" would not have made it to number one for me - or number two).

2. Nobody does it better (always brings a smile to my face)

3. We have all the time in the world (one of the most romantic and saddest songs ever)

4. You only live twice (remains magical - and worked also well for others: see "Mad Men")

5. Diamonds are forever (very elegant and haunting melody)

6. Live and let die (wicked fun)

7. Moonraker (again, magical, haunting, elegant, Bondian)

8. For your eyes only (sunny, feel good, Roger Moore-ian)

9. Goldfinger (okay, classic, probably over-exposed but still brilliant)

10. All time high (hah, so underrated, pure Barry, lovely)

11. You know my name (powerful, great melody, Craig begins)

12. Thunderball (another legendary song, very self-confident, brings a lot of oomph)

13. Licence to kill (underrated as well, soulful, I particularly love the bridge)

14. Never say never again (talking about underrated, has the sunny, feel-good atmosphere I already enjoy in For your eyes only)

15. Skyfall (a bit too somber and simple, but the bridge lifts it up for me)

16. Tomorrow never dies (I love the 60´s feel of the harmonies, good melody, too)

17. The world is not enough (great haunting melody, could have used a better bridge, too repetitive)

18. From Russia With Love (brings back memories of the sad, kitchy love songs of the 60´s, legendary in itself)

19. A view to a kill (has great elements, but seems patchy to me, as if Barry and Duran Duran didn´t really work together so well)

20. The living daylights (has great elements, but seems patchy to me, as if Barry and a-ha... wait a minute;  also, the chorus is too simple: "oooooooh, the living daylights - ooooooh, the living daylights")

21. The Man with the golden gun (almost too unintentionally funny lyrics, but a nice enough melody)

22. Goldeneye (the synth horns are almost a parody, Turner is good, the melody could have been better)

23. Die another day (um, well, different, too patchy, the lyrics... uh, no)

24. Another way to die (not really, really bad, establishes some nice atmosphere, but really - who had the idea that White and Keyes sing together at the same time in the same key?  Please, only Keyes would have been great, White alone seems to have too thin a voice, and again - very stitched together sounding melody)

Revisiting this thread today seemed a good idea...

Strangely, my opinion has not changed about my ranking.
